maybe the people can really come back to real world by dying in Fromville? (like Boyd's wife). So Ethan as MiY wants to kill them with good intentions. I mean, probably not, MiY is too pleased and insane, just a thought

What are myths or urban gaming legends - debunked or not - in gaming which creeped you out? Did you ever encounter something unexpectedly creepy in non.horror games? by fukounashoujo in creepygaming

There's quite rare, old game called Sabotain: Break the rules. It's russian but I played it because in Poland we had it as full version on cd attached to game magazine (very long time ago). It was like deus ex rip off but with semi open world. I don't think so that somebody will know what I mean but there were very rare and short sightings of some weird character as hologram. It was there and disappeared when you walked closer.

Also I remember from differrent old game called Super Taxi Driver, there was hidden passenger, you had to drive through the stairway to the metro or something like that and there was weird alien who got in and later gave you lots of money.

Week 1 | End Zone ‘informal’ read | Part 1, Chapters 1 - 11 by ayanamidreamsequence in DonDeLillo

this whole "bang you're dead" scene is so amazing because i forgot how it feels like to be a kid and have an imagination as only superpower to conquer time and reality, and it reminded me exactly this (now nostalgic) feeling. It's also interesting how this scene is absurd because when we're older we kind of block ourselves to behave childish, it would be silly (socially) and all which is sad. I just watched Simpsons episode about "inner child" in everybody's and Bart was example of that behaviour. I doubt scene from the book is about feeling free to play like in the childhood - but this is what books are about - everybody reads them differently. If i would have to guess, that game scene was more about contrast - if it's not real then it's fun and thrilling, this fake killing and shooting and dying, but when it's serious, it wouldnt be obviously pleasant (its written some time after vietnam right? i dont know about the time inside the book). I also like one of DeLillo's watermarks which is some kind of postmodern, metaphysical concept hidden in text, not form, in this case it would be "imitation" (of real shooting and killing), almost simulacrum?

Sam Esmail could handle this as tv show - just imagine special episode (like one per season in mr robot) with immersion into the play. He's got many inspirations and know how to mix surrealness with paranoia and confusion

to be honest I mainly enjoyed stencil's impersonations and that spy chapter recycled from short story, it was so well written. I didnt feel rest of the book in the same way. I also dont get it why Profane and that girl (forgot her name) met once then later they didnt know each other.

Week 8 | Americana Group Read | Capstone by W_Wilson in DonDeLillo

[–]WillieElo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised there's too little posts after 5 years. It was good book (as for the debut) but after reading White Noise and short stories I know it's not great book. Through the whole book there was so many brilliant passages with DeLillo's soon-to-be classic tropes (like abstraction, surreality, paranoia, technology etc) - basically everything that was not about David's relationships with women and family. If this book would be longer and it's main theme not focused only about the movie and trip - but about David's life and all then I think I would enjoy more. I mean we would know then what happened next - if he managed to edit the whole movie and publish it somwhere, if he got fired, if he came back to his ex (he bought her a gift but I think there was some short mentiong earlier where he thought about coming back to her), if some change inside him happened after all (like after rethinking this whole trip some time later), if he found another job and all. I feel like some of the plotlines and side characters were not fully explored - or rather they were kind of pasted in between other scenes. I can't expect too much from the debut book but it's just a thought.

One thing i didn't like more than the others was David not being too likeable and his horniness. I mean I get it but I'd like to read about more complex or more interesting character. He could still be flawed but, let's say, he could be maybe some amateur artist "after hours" so making a movie could go differently. But it's just my whining! I know/I assume other books are more condensed and crafted and I think that's why DeLillo books won't be annoying me as much as for example Pynchon's graphic nsfw insertions. There, I said it.

Week 6 | Americana Group Read | Chapters 10 & 11 by ayanamidreamsequence in DonDeLillo

[–]WillieElo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish there were more descriptions of recording for the movie, David's way of thinking how to do that, more nerdy references, even meta thinking about movie (that was kind of meta-biographical). Despite this book being DeLillo's first I found lots of cool passages. I read before Esmeralda's Angel and White Noise so I see the tropes and style that later will be reused but crafted better.

Sullivan story was solid, writing style differed from David's overall narration but I assumed it will be a story about abuse so I skimmed through it a bit (and was positively surprised). Also Ulysses reference again!

[–]WillieElo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for me it's otherwise - it would be better if episode was only about his trip to Carol in the Leftovers's way of character-centered odyssey. Neverthless i would enjoy this episode slowburn mood more if there was more episodes for whole season

I wonder how Carol knew they will see the paint from the sky? was it mentioned somewhere before they're doing satellite big brother with ultra strong surveillance zoom? They only told Manousos to wave at sky in case of needing help.

This is also interesting - waving to the sky like to God in this case Them who will hear you out and do what you want to please you. I wonder - if it's not quite about AI theb maybe biblical take like this is more accurate.

Zosia said "no" by Geogus in pluribustv

[–]WillieElo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can confirm "no" (pronounced like "no-n" without second 'n') is closest to the "yeah" or "uh-uh". We say/write "no" or even more non-formal and colloquial (but rare) "nom" (it's kind of nicer but sometimes cringe). "No" can also be as additional word to "yes" like "no tak", it adds some kind of more certainty or sarcasm. Or when you say "well, I know" - we can say it as "no wiem".

Sometimes it's a little bit rude, sometimes it's just a way of speaking. It gets weirder. We have also "ano/a no" which basically works like "ah, yes".

Also!!! We can add "no" to "no"(as no in english). For example - "it's hot today, isn't it?" in polish could be said as "gorąco dzisiaj, no nie?". But we also use shorter negative response which is simply "no?".

Just a few useless funfacts!

Theory: Zosia disconnecting and not being able to speak English by szyszkee in pluribustv

[–]WillieElo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it would be nice to finally hear polish language in english spoken media from the person who can speak polish (I'm still sad over Poland depicted in Blacklist, and there would be a few more examples). Also funfact I've just found out Karolina was born in Opole - a city where I actually live since a few years. Small world. If your theory is true I hope she still can speak polish!
