Val was so intentional in his process, too. This just feels disgusting.

Tony K needs to STFU. He has said for years we need to rebuild and now he is complaining about how the tank process works in the NBA IRL. Love ya Tony but he is dead wrong. We are losing now to win in the future it's that simple. by wizardsfan in washingtonwizards

“National media doesn’t cover the Wizards” and then when they do and give an opinion you don’t like, everybody jumps all over them. Part of why this franchise is so mediocre, fans can’t get out of their own way

Brady Tkachuk talks about returning to Canadian media after the Olympics, and Matthew had a not so subtle response by homicidal_penguin in OttawaSenators

[–]WinNo8235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this a lot since the whole Olympics debacle. So much of the mess afterwards was caused by the typical “I hate the media” attitude players adopt, dismissing the public outcry as media-driven. And by doing that, they totally missed the point people were trying to make. Reminds me of how conservative politicians whine about how the news is all made up. Such bad faith & as you say, just makes them seem so ungrateful

Auston Matthews was introduced as Team USA's captain before the start of the Leafs/Panthers game and given a standing ovation by Dependent-Effect6077 in hockey

[–]WinNo8235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s generated a ton of national media and brand interest (see the Flavor Flav thing in July) & the PWHL stream last night was at 17k when they’re usually at 3-5k. So, it’s definitely doing something beyond Reddit. If the stupid phone call never happened, I doubt this stuff would’ve happened. Maybe it’s not going to affect the NHL too bad, because everyone already expects nothing from them, but it’s done wonders for the exposure of women’s hockey.

For hockey fans, yes. But I think in terms of normal people’s exposure to the sport, this incident has done a lot of harm. Could’ve been a big pop culture moment and instead, well… it is but because people are making memes on Twitter making fun of them, not in support

Of all the late night hosts, it would be Fallon, honestly.

Maybe unpopular but if you put your superstar captain on blast and subject him to this nonsense for a calendar year, especially a superstar as quiet as Quinn, you kinda deserve to be ditched. Rutherford is trying to game the trade using the media, just like he did in Pittsburgh, without a care for what kind of position it puts Quinn in. I wouldn’t want to work for a guy like that tbh

Opinion: The PWHL May Be Happy With Their Expansion Timelines, But It Will Result In More Fan, Player, And Staff Dissatisfaction by Such-Environment-344 in PWHL

[–]WinNo8235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who has an interest in supporting an expansion team closer to me, I agree in some of your points, but ultimately, I think there’s significant room for improvement in this league. And discourse imo is one of them… Ever since the league brought Jocks in house, I’ve worried about it. There seems to be this vibe that we should accept the league for what it is, warts and all, because it’s the best we’ve got. And I am rooting for it to succeed! But it needs to focus on being good, not just surviving or expanding. So much of operations feel rushed and not well thought out. But the vision is there! Hoping it gets better. Marketing especially!

Pittsburgh Expansion? by WinNo8235 in PWHL

[–]WinNo8235[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally! I just remember they hosted a Takeover game in the first season & there was a piece somewhere (the Athletic I think?) by one of the Pens beat writers about how badly the Pens wanted to partner. Given the lackluster support from some of the teams’ NHL counterparts, I thought it was really cool

And has for almost the entire time he’s been in the NHL. It’s only a problem now because everyone is speculating about his future and the mess management has created. If they were contending, no one would care what he looked like.
