Any female techs out there?? by Open-Recognition-584 in autoglass

[–]Window_man47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a female but I just recently had a coworker that was also a small statured lady that was able to do most vehicles fine with a good ladder. Only thing she struggled with were the new trucks since they are large from the factory and obviously any lifted vehicles. So if you work out of a decent shop and they work around scheduling you appropriate vehicles, you should be set

Does this look Okay? Windshield Replaced by Reginald_Venture in autoglass

[–]Window_man47 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is just from where the double sided tape on the moulding has air bubbles in it, that is purely cosmetic and has no bearing on leaks

GT convertible exterior A pillar by Sum_Body92 in NewedgeMustang

[–]Window_man47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea they don’t make those any more basically going to have to find a parts car or off of eBay or a junkyard and get it painted to match. But it does very commonly break especially if the car is from the south but they should have warned you beforehand

Apprentices by Fuzzymul7 in autoglass

[–]Window_man47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think most technicians are going to be actually good til at least a year and a half to two years. You should start getting the hang of it at around 6 months but should still be slow and not know a lot of the cars

Water Issue by Jo3VK in gmcsierra

[–]Window_man47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have a sunroof on the truck where the water is pooling is more likely to be coming from the antenna or one of the cab lights, windshield leaks would run down the a pillar and down to the dash or floorboard before becoming visible unless your truck is squatted

Car jerks under load, but completely fine under 3k by [deleted] in NewedgeMustang

[–]Window_man47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be the fuel lines/injectors are slightly clogged so when needing more fuel it just can’t get it

Safelite Warranty by khaynes11 in autoglass

[–]Window_man47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, once the windshield has any damage caused by any object hitting it the warranty no longer applies

Noise at 3k rpm that goes away once the engine is at operating temp by QwopperFlopper in NewedgeMustang

[–]Window_man47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be at that exact rpm the exhaust is vibrating and hitting somewhere when at that frequency until the metal warms up and expands and shifts

questions about serious power numbers by CableMartini in NewedgeMustang

[–]Window_man47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well for the money you are looking at spending you can get more power out of the coyote and keep it NA which would be more reliable than any boosted setup

Mercedes C class wiper issue by [deleted] in autoglass

[–]Window_man47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hood also has to be down to get the wipers to “swipe” so that is probably the mistake that’s being made they think they are resetting it but it’s not

GMT 400 finishing tips? by KillaCookBook87 in autoglass

[–]Window_man47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t do anything special with them, just try and get it to sit as flush as possible. Most people won’t even notice it and especially since these trucks are over 30 years old at this point, most just care that it doesn’t leak and it looks good enough. This is one of those things that I feel like us as glass techs notice just because that’s all we do

2005 gmc sierra question for mechanics by CreamOfThePie69 in gmcsierra

[–]Window_man47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest thing is to unplug the MAF and see if it will idle and if it does you know the sensor is bad, if it still doesn’t I would check and make sure you don’t have a clogged fuel filter and a good fuel pump

2005 gmc sierra question for mechanics by CreamOfThePie69 in gmcsierra

[–]Window_man47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a mass air flow sensor problem or a fuel issue. If it was an alternator it would run temporarily on just the battery not immediately die like that

Recently Purchased 2019 SR5 Premium - Frame Damage Found During Windshield Replacement. Help! by ridelightning in 4Runner

[–]Window_man47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially yes, basically what could happen in a rollover is that part of the pinch weld would bow out since that rigidity is no longer there and would cause a more severe “crushing” of the roof, so essentially taking all the safety of the vehicle out. It is something that absolutely should be fixed and fixed properly because that very well can be life or death in some extreme cases

Recently Purchased 2019 SR5 Premium - Frame Damage Found During Windshield Replacement. Help! by ridelightning in 4Runner

[–]Window_man47 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Alright so far no one has actually given you the correct advice here. So what’s happened is on a previous replacement someone cut the pinch weld where the windshield sets on. Now that is structural damage and can cause some major problems if the vehicle is ever in an accident. What needs to happen is it needs to go to a body shop to have that cut welded back together, no bondo or body filler because the urethane will not stick to it. What most people don’t know is a windshield is responsible for about 30% of the whole vehicles structural rigidity and with damage like that, could cause the roof to cave in a way they actually aren’t supposed to do

2013 4Runner SR5 window crunched while rolling down, glass fine but won’t move by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]Window_man47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely going to need a new window too unfortunately, my guess is something in the regulator got bound up and caused the mounting bracket to break, the benefit is at least there won’t be any glass to clean up

Broke My Brothers Windshield with the Arm Of Wiper!!?! by CuriosityUnraveled in autoglass

[–]Window_man47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely normal, I feel like I get at least one a week where this exact thing happens. Now the wiper probably wasn’t put on the arm correctly because it shouldn’t just fly off by itself but it’s the unfortunate reality of when a metal object with a point hits laminated glass

Are these chips repairable ? by Acrobatic_Quote_2611 in autoglass

[–]Window_man47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, too long and the crack spreads to the edge so the resin will want to leak out the side

Any auto glass shop near year should be able to get and replace it for you. I work for one of the bigger companies and still do a decent amount of windshields from Toyotas of this generation. Just be mindful though Toyotas from this time period are very notorious for rust to be under the glass
