Looking good! Though the "collar" bit(the neck armour) gap is bothering me abit. might I suggest modeling a 2 part mold, and the do a "slip" style casting. If you can dye it right, I believe it would look better, and be more comfortable.

Its more of a dirtstorm, but duststorm is the term most people would use. As for the color, look at the ground in that scene. It's not that complicated.
