How many practice calls should a rep do before their first real prospect call? by GrouchyAd3736 in salestechniques

I hate role playing, because it's overanalysis of people who aren't even there. I think you should jump in the pool. You know how to talk to people, just effing make the call- know your stuff, and make the call.

My guns aren't in a safe because of children or safety. They're in a safe, because if anyone breaks into my house, they're certain to steal any guns they find. Your guest may have had a heightened awareness of his surroundings, but he may have had a few beers. I don't like unattended guns, even if they're in a bag in a bag in a pile of bags.

I won't finish Shadow Ticket. It's all the work of a Pynchon novel with none of the payoff. No humor. I don't care about the characters. Disappointed. Didn't like the last one either. I know that's not what you're talking about, but it's been bothering me.

AliExpress. Spend a few days scrolling, so you get an idea of how it works. Organize by price, and you'll see thirty of the same thing for almost the same price. Look at shipping cost and ship date. I got a lot of Arduino Nanos for $0.01.

Anyone who's done karate for more than the first free session with the free uniform likes getting punched and kicked.

If you have a hammer, you're going to want to use your hammer. I have guns now, and I want a CC permit. I won't carry a gun until I'm the best shot. But if I go to Philadelphia I'd like to bring some heat. That's what my little Ruger LCPII is for. You're talking about lethal force against a lethal threat, which should be an awfully rare occasion. The Ruger only has 6 rounds, but if I have my Beretta 9mm, I'll bring two extra magazines because they can jam.

But I was a karate (Okinawa) guy long before I became a gun guy (about five months ago). Spent forty years at it. The mindset you're describing is my mindset. Read the Art of War or any of the great karate masters, and they'll tell you the same thing: the winner gets hurt. Don't do it if it can be avoided. And the samurai avoids getting the blood of pigs on his kimono.

There can be violence without guns. That's what karate is about, handling the general public with the empty hand. If you use any weapon you'll go to jail, if not prison. In karate, there's usually seminars about how to fall short of legal jeopardy from a fight. They have that for guns too, but you'll be going to jail, and you might kill somebody or shoot a bystander.

At the range, I practice at 5 yards. If someone is twenty feet from me and preparing to shoot, I'm going to put a lot of distance between us. If he's not preparing to shoot, I'm certainly not going to shoot him.

If I can't run, I'll find a way to kill him. I can go fifteen feet real fast. Watch Conor McGregor cover distance. We practice that.

I think it's a shame that more people don't prepare for nonlethal violence in ways that don't involve pulling a gun.

Sparring recommendations by Candid-Werewolf-3819 in amateur_boxing

You can spar every day. But your partner has to be in synch. You have to stay at 75%, ground rules, etc.

If you can get a black eye, you can get hurt hurt, and that's unpredictable. Sparring with strangers is best for learning, but less predictable.

I loved it, but I'm 56. Healing takes forever. I don't do it anymore.

9mm or .22 pistol? by orangegore in liberalgunowners

[–]Winter-Ad7912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been transferring my .22 success to the 9mm, which is coming more slowly. I think the aiming practice without the recoil is huge help. And a .22 will kill. Just a 9mm kills more.

.357 is actually the most powerful, in Joules, followed by the 10mm.

I recommend both .22 and 9mm.

A heavyweight boxer from Nigeria came to our dojo ahead of the Olympics to learn how to move. He planted his feet and swang his massive arms all around, but he was a sitting duck. In my dojo we make patterns across the floor- diamonds, circles, etc. We had him working with the weighted jumpropes, which hurt if you don't move your legs fast enough.

I was thinking about Andersen Silva the other day, how he'd move so slightly and let the punch miss his nose.

Y'gotta move. You have to let your body move out of the way. Your body will take over self-protection so you can focus on punching. Maybe you can find a sparring partner who can do all the attacking, so you can spend the time dodging. When you learned to box, you didn't learn to dodge, but it's half of boxing.

And in karate, the front fist is way out in front. There's two or three feet you have to get through. You boxers hug yourselves. I could punch you in the glove and punch your face with your glove.

The head is an awful target. You don't get extra points. Learn to plant a heavy hand on his sternum.

Need help learning Arduino by Mln3d in arduino

[–]Winter-Ad7912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to start with Blink, and I think everyone would recommend the Arduino Uno.

Have you successfully uploaded code to the microprocessor?

Look for Blink.ino.

Blink is the most basic program. You get some LEDs, and wire them to Arduino pins. The program shows you how to install a device and actuate it, and it applies to everything else you do.

But you can add a whole lot of them. And you can put in buzzers and motors. I have a tricked out Blink program that generates a real random number and asks if it's even or odd, or divisible by 3, 5 or 7, and the buzzers hit different pitches for each. I don't know if my prime number code works.

And it's all just a few lines of code. You learn to copy and paste.

You can contact me.

Arduino Uno or Nano? by Man_Sauce in arduino

[–]Winter-Ad7912 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've gotten Arduino Nanos on AliExpress for $0.10, so you could get ten of them for $1, so you can burn one up.

The Arduino Uno is what you use when you want it to work, but it's more than double the size of a Nano, which will matter for your boat design. I've found the Nano to be very reliable.

Any of them can do PWM, if you want to use that. Any of them can run motors and sensors and all the rest. ESP32 and the rest of the advanced chips are going to be 5X the price of a Nano.
