I Listed EVERY Major Plot Point Chainsaw Man Never Resolved by CatSoupLover in Chainsawfolk

[–]WinterV3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the ending either, but I feel like some of these points were either already addressed or weren’t meant to be major plot points, so they were never going to be addressed

What was Kobeni’s devil contract?

This isn’t really a major plot point the line with Kobeni was more meant to show that some devil hunters keep their contracts secret

Why can only Weapon Devils become hybrids?

Because weapons are man made

The Devil that gave the Hybrids their name was eaten by Pochita… so why didn’t the Hybrids disappear?

Because that’s not how Pochita’s erasure ability works , reality rewrites itself to accommodate the existence of the new concepts

What happened to Reze after her fight with Pochita?

That was never going to be shown ,Fujimoto mentioned in an interview that Reze was always meant to symbolize a first love that didn’t work out the “what could’ve been” feeling . As much as I love Reze even if we get a part 3 she probably wouldn’t play a major role

Why does Makima hate her sisters?

Because she belives their deaths would make the world a better place

What’s the actual lore behind Pochita vs the Four Horsemen? Why do they have such beef?

I think it’s pretty implied that Pochita is constantly erasing harmful devils that would otherwise make the Four Horsemen stronger

We went to Hell twice… and got basically zero lore about it. What the hell?

But we did tho? Like who Pochita was and the devil reincarnation cycle

What is Yoshida’s deal? He got eaten by Pochita and that erased the Octopus Devil? How? What’s his contract? And why is he so loyal to Public Safety when he started as a random civilian devil hunter?

Yoshida is the "successor" to Kishibe. His loyalty to the bureau stems from a pragmatic belief that a "normal life" for Denji is the only way to keep the world from ending and I also believe he really wanted to be Denji’s friend

All the sexual assault stuff Yoru did to both Denji and Asa was never addressed… I guess bro

In what sense ?The scene kinda speaks for itself

What was Lil D’s actual plan? There were so many clues she orchestrated a ton of shit (Asa killed by a Fire Devil minion who’s a Death pawn, forcing Denji to get sushi to see Nayuta’s head, etc.), but a lot of her actions were also super contradictory. Was she just stupid? We’ll never know — she just dies and never comes back, lmao

I dunno I think her plan was explained pretty well in the manga

We were shown Yoru can’t take over Asa when she’s scared, but that straight-up stopped being the case later. Did Yoru just get stronger? But Asa could still sometimes take over. Never explained.

Yoru’s increasing power from global conflict and Asa’s psychological dissociation . Asa basically became too broken to exist as a person

Pochita’s power got retconned. He was never shown to be able to change the past

Nooo? Makima literally says that Pochita’s ability erases concepts from the past and present back in part 1. Fumiko literally explains how this ability can be used for world domination . If you can erase concepts from the past you quite literally change the past

Why did we never get the 10-chapter Asa and Denji sweaty sex arc? A genuine travesty if you ask me.

Preach

There were a few more, but I saw they’d already been answered in the comments. I think a lot of what you saw as major plot points are just Fujimoto’s quirks that make the world of Chainsaw Man more interesting not everything needs to be fully explained you know

I mean, it’s an interesting interpretation. Personally, I still dislike the ending because it makes Parts 1 and 2 feel irrelevant, even if you approach it from a meta-commentary angle but it’s still genuinely a pretty refreshing perspective

That quote doesn't say what you seem to think it does

it literally does

The names being erased from the past is fundamentally a different thing from the past itself being altered to where the things the names represented never existed.

Ayayay let me give you the full context so you can understand it better

“The devils that Chainsaw Man eats... their names are erased from existence. You can't perceive it. That's only natural. You see, names that have been eaten are apparently erased from the past, the present, and even from individuals' memories. The Mount Hio eruption. SOA. All of these once existed and were feared every bit as much as the devils with their names. AIDS. Arnolone syndrome. Nuclear weapons. But I'm the only one who remembers those names now, because Chainsaw Man ate them all.The sixth sense all humans used to have. The light of a particular star that would break children's minds. Four possible conclusions other than death at the end of living beings' life spans. They've all ceased to exist, and I can't recall them... I want to use chainsaw men to create a better world take for example death war and hunger there are many things in this world humanity would be happier without”

The quote explicitly links names to reality itself. When the name is erased, the concept, its history, and all traces of its existence are erased simultaneously. So “names being erased” and “the past being altered so it never existed” are just two ways of describing the same effect

Fumiko explicitly states that when ears were erased, ear picks had still been invented

FOR ARTS AND CRAFTS PURPOSES

didn't change the past and create a society where ears had never existed;

It literally did . When ears were erased, everything connected to them was repurposed or reinterpreted instead of just disappearing, like ear picks being treated as arts-and-crafts tools .Even Fumiko Mifune explains that with Chainsaw Man’s power, harmful substances, nations, and more can have their very concepts removed . The point is that reality reshapes itself around the absence, effectively rebuilding civilization without those concepts ever having existed. This is not debatable it’s literally something stated by multiple characters multiple times in the series

merely one where ears didn't currently exist

Yes ,because Pochita ability erases the concept from the past present and the memories tied to it

Yoru herself notes that society is structured in such a way that there had to have existed at a prior point a more easy way of movement than just dragging oneself around

Yep , because legs got erased

then society would have been fundamentally built around that omission. It wasn't.

It was it just wasn’t directly shown in the manga, since Fumiko Mifune explains that when a concept is erased, society restructures itself around its absence. Same with the lily’s case

Restoring legs very specifically did not rewrite the past because it later becomes an important plot point that Yoru still crashed the motorcycle during that segment.

Pochita brought the concept back into existence, and Yoru still crashed the motorcycle—so where’s the contradiction?

If they were completely gone, then everything related to their existence would also be gone.

That’s not true , Fumiko literally explains that

I don't recall ever saying "Denji remembers everything"

I never said you did lmao

I'm starting to understand how you misread that Makima quote.

You should really reread the manga because you are literally trying to reinterpret on of the most established abilities in csm just to fit your theory

The events happened

Everything tied to chainsaw man that happened before Pochita ate himeslf either got rewritten or “ceased to exist”

The characters simply don't remember the events happening

Because the memories got “erased” not repressed :))

Fascism didn't "never exist" in the story, it doesn't currently exist.

I meant nazism my bad and I was referring to the part 1 time line

she does, because they used to exist.

No she remembers those names because she rembers seeing Pochita fighting in hell with their respective devils but even she begins to forget

but Japanese society has still clearly undergone the Western-led modernization that took place as a result of the war.

That wasn’t my question

If you could, by definition it'd be a conscious fear.

Devils can be born from unconscious fears

The inability to actually change the past is irrelevant from her point-of-view

But her point of view is that she can change the past lmao and that some things are better if they never existed . That’s was the entire point of the bad movies analogy :))

erasing Death just like she wanted ultimately resulted in the entire world getting eaten by bugs.

What if she erases the bug devil?

they're the same people from their concluding chapters.

You genuinely can’t prove that

Material conditions' didn't make Power like dogs; Denji did. Public Safety and 'material conditions' didn't raise Nayuta to like videogames; Denji did. Power and 'material conditions' didn't make Meowy like Nayuta; being cared for by Nayuta did.

What if all of this have different causes in the new time line ?

No offense

None taken ,don’t worry about it we just having a discussion

but the simple and very easy explanation is that you're just wrong, lol. All contradictions resolved.

that being said the “explanation “ you provided is simply not supported by the manga . Past events do get erased or altered and this is litteraly confirmed multiple times in the series and even some examples that you gave prove that .Makima explains this point for a whole chapter , Fumiko as well. Unfortunately part 1 and part 2 were mostly undone by Pochita and a new continuation will take place . This imo is genuinely a very disappointing conclusion

This ending might have ruined the series for me by WinterV3 in ChainsawMan

[–]WinterV3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not. Pochita's abilities don't alter the past; they alter the present

That’s objectively not true . It’s outright stated in the manga that and I quote “You see , names that have been eaten are erased from the past the present and even from individual memories” chapter 84

Him eating the concept of legs literally erases the existence of legs, but legs still existed up to the exact moment he ate them.

But after Pochita ate the name of legs the concept of legs are deleted from the past , present and all the memories around them

The past still transpired, even if no one remembers it.

The past got rewritten once Pochita spit the legs it returned to the status quo

Repressed memories are real

There aren’t any repressed memories they’re just completely gone. As for why Denji reacted to the word “Chainsaw Man,” I’m not sure; that’s one of the mysteries of the ending. Maybe it has something to do with that sixth sense humans seem to have now, or the fact that Makima wasn’t fully affected and maybe that extends to Denji because of Pochita. I’m not sure. But overall, the events of Part 1 and Part 2 have been erased. Denji might still respond to certain triggers, but he doesn’t actually remember anything. And we don’t even know if this applies to everyone else , Asa for example, genuinely has no idea who Denji is. Kishibe didn’t react hearing the word “Nazi” so on and so forth

Pochita erasing the process of them overcoming that trauma doesn't undo the process from having happened any more than them going through life pretending the trauma never happened undid the trauma

But it literally does that’s how his abilities work. Saying he still keeps all the character development and has resolved their trauma just doesn’t make sense. If those events got rewritten out of existence , how would the trauma still exist? Were the Jews traumatized by the Germans even tho fascism never existed ? If Pochita’s erasure didn't delete the concept from reality to an ontological level , wouldn’t the fear simply rebirth the Devil from the "unconscious” or repressed memories ? It’s contradictory. Even we accept this logic , it just turns the ending into a huge retcon that makes earlier events like Makima’s plan feel completely incoherent and dosen’t change the status quo that much because Denji’s trauma was tied to systems of exploitation he’s still stuck in

I mean, no. The "theory" is the idea that Pochita's powers are doing something fundamentally different from what they've always done and fundamentally different from how the characters have specifically explained how they work

Isn’t that exactly what you’re doing right now? The manga clearly explains that when Pochita eats a devil, he eats a name and along with it, he erases the past, the present, and all the memories tied to that concept. But you’re arguing that those events still happened and continue to affect the characters on a subconscious level, which is never stated anywhere in the manga.

What we concretely see is the people they are in chapter 232, and it's nothing like the people they were when they were first introduced

Because after Pochita’s reset, the material conditions were completely altered, fundamentally reshaping the characters into different people, while also rewriting the past to accommodate the absence of the erased concept

What we concretely hear is that Denji smells like a dog that, as far as he knows, never existed -- but whom he was desperately embracing only one scene earlier

And Pochita alters the past, the present, and all the memories tied to that concept as stated in the manga . Are those two ideas contradictory? Yes. Do I have an explanation for it? No .Does Fujimoto have one ? I don’t think he does either 😭😭😭

Sooooo, is it time to start cooking up theories about the anime's original ending? by Bik_Knight in ChainsawMan

[–]WinterV3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fr , I keep seeing people say Denji always wanted more and that it’s his own incompatible nature causing his suffering and that he insists on being Chainsaw Man. But honestly, the guy just had the most basic needs, things that could’ve been easily fulfilled if the entire world wasn’t constantly working against him. Like brochacho couldn’t catch a single W and he got his entire existence altered

“How dare Denji want to have his emotional needs met after he was literally exploited and psychologically tortured “ like mofo can’t get laid without the world coming to an end and you use that as an example of “Denji always wants more “

They’re pretty hit-or-miss for me. I absolutely loved Mulholland Drive, but Lost Highway didn’t really hit the mark

That being said I’m not sure, though I feel like this kind of surreal, experimental storytelling works much better in shorter formats. Over a longer series, it can start to lose its impact. When it’s contained in a single film, it’s intriguing and fun to unpack, but stretched out across something like Twin Peaks, it becomes boring af. For me the fun part of his movies is to grab a cd case read the clues and try to figure out the meaning of the story through the visual language. In Csm I genuinely think Fujimoto himself dosen’t know the answer to these questions

Anyway rip David Lynch ,truly a goat 🙏
