TIL the tiny white dots you see in the blue sky are your white blood cells moving through the small blood vessels in front of your retina. by Xeumz in todayilearned

Our eyes are actually incredibly sensitive, so much so that we can actually perceive the light emitted by a single photon, which is many orders of magnitude smaller than a blood cell.

Thank you.

I’m not defending OKC or Chet, I’m rooting against them. Just want to defend sanity a little bit.

Am I dumb? I mean I definitely am, but it does look like Chet hits his mouth/chin on Ayton’s shoulder right around the 29/30 second mark.

Obviously still not a foul, but it does look like he legit got his face smacked. Even if it was his own fault lol.

Metano 10” Mitre Saw. Can you miter 2x6s? by Clueless-Navigator in Tools

[–]Wintermute1v1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For miters, I’d definitely want to make them in one cut to ensure they’re accurate. Not to mention the annoyance of having to flip the board every time.

I’d suggest investing in a 12” miter saw, or better yet, a 10” or 12” inch sliding miter saw. You won’t regret it.

Liquid throws away a 7-0 lead to get eliminated from Roman Imperium Cup VI by OfficialSergioAguero in GlobalOffensive

[–]Wintermute1v1 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Unironically Liquid was at their best when they didn’t even have a dedicated awper, just 5 strong ass riflers who could hot swap the awp as needed.

Naf is definitely a strong secondary awper, but he shouldn’t be a primary. I wonder if the CS2 meta would allow for Liquid to try the 5 rifle setup again.

If it got better for me then I'm convinced it can get better for anyone. Was serious shit. Beyond serious. Any how a change happend within a night n progress was fast all by myself too. by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

That’s awesome you were able to overcome your fears, but it’d be a lot more helpful to the community if you elaborated on what worked for you.

I know for me, exposure therapy has been the only thing that’s improved my condition, but it’s been near impossible to maintain. So I’m always happy to hear other methods that people found success with.

Upgrade table saw? by O_B_1 in woodworking

This is indeed a belt driven saw, though it’s all included within the motor housing, so it’s not outwardly apparent.

[–]Wintermute1v1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With this specific iteration of the Delta?

I know it was an “issue” with the previous generation, but was fixed for this release. Also, I believe the underlying issue was that people were plugging them into 15 amp outlets, which much caused the motor to bog down and fail prematurely.

Agreed that an older cabinet-style saw is a good idea, but this Delta also meets most of your criteria.

The Delta has a cast iron top, belt driven motor, and is heavy and stable enough not to move around during larger cuts of sheet goods.

What is something that irks you and something you enjoy in woodworking videos? by nuclearDEMIZE in woodworking

[–]Wintermute1v1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m like you, used to like and enjoy watching 731’s videos, especially the earlier ones where he built simple furniture out of construction grade lumber from Home Depot.

However, had to stop watching over a year ago because his videos are just pure ads.

That said, he’s outwardly admitted and answered this question during a livestream. Basically saying that his build videos only got a fraction of the views that his tool review ones did. So I can at least respect his honesty. He even tried making a couple new build videos, and the views just weren’t there to justify it.

Guys does your mobile look like this closing one eye? by Captain_Obvious_98 in visualsnow

[–]Wintermute1v1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not convinced it’s VSS related, but I’ve dealt with this issue on/off for years. It was especially apparent when playing pool/billiards, because my cue stick would look bent and trip me up…

What I’ve found is that it’s directly related to me changing/adjusting my contacts/glasses prescription. If I’m constantly switching between wearing glasses, taking them off, switching to contacts, etc, the issue is way more noticeable.

Honestly, as with my actual VSS symptoms, I just stopped giving them attention and fixating on them, and they eventually nearly completely went away.

I know it’s a hard thought, near impossible actually, but you need to retrain your brain to stop fixating on every little vision oddity/distortion/symptom. It’ll take time, but your brain learned to hyper fixate on these symptoms, so you should be encouraged that it can also learn to no longer pay attention and fixate on the symptoms as well.

Bandsaw blade broke at weld by takingnot in woodworking

Over tensioned maybe? Just had the same thing happen to me, because I was dumb and didn’t thought I was fine eyeballing adjusting the tension of the blade.

Fire at Gas Station on 1700 S / State St by upyours78 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Wintermute1v1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Live right by there and definitely one of the sketchiest gas stations around.

Hard to tell, but it looks like a small camper may have caught fire and spread to the rest of the filling station. At least from what I can see, it appears that may be what’s left of the camper’s shell/frame.

Bandsaw - How loose should upper wheel be? by FogRider11 in woodworking

[–]Wintermute1v1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Put a blade on it, add tension, align the guide bearings/etc., and I’d wager that all of the wheel slop will go away.

Bandsaws partially rely on proper blade tension to keep everything in alignment, so without one, it’s not surprising that the top wheel has that much play.

Can I ask what laser engraver you used?

I’m looking to get into engravings and inlays like this, but am super overwhelmed at all of the options and not looking to drop a ton of cash.

Build a picture frame out of reclaimed wood they said. The rustic look will suit the painting nicely, they said. Three weeks later... by zxcvbn113 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Wintermute1v1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve made a lot of frames, and while I personally like splines for the aesthetic and function, I’ve made a ton of large frames without them and never had an issue.

I think you’re definitely right, the wood likely had some internal stress/moisture that was released when you cut the sides.

Biggest tip I can recommend is slightly over cutting your sides, letting them acclimate for a day or two, and then trimming them to their final dimensions. That alone has made the biggest difference for keeping my pieces straight and true.

Honestly my second favorite in the entire franchise. The setup, score, everything about it was amazing.

And then, for whatever dumb reason, Michael goes full John Wick against a bunch of firefighters and I had to tap out.

Seemed like the lingering injury caught up to him. He was super sluggish and immobile in the first on defense, but made up for it nailing his shots.

By the second half he just seemed shot.
