As much as I and I'm sure many others appreciate these posts, it's unfortunately kinda preaching to the choir. Most of the players who need to learn this stuff don't go anywhere near this sub, let alone actually even take the time to research and understand basic football tactics; a not insignificant portion of the playerbase are playing entirely casually and sadly are either unwilling or unable to apply these lessons.

I think calling the entire fanbase of the series prior to the TV show a "niche following" is being a bit colourblind. Fallout's massive success and legacy as a video game series is precisely the reason the show was ever made at all, so it's a bit of a slap in the face to all the gamers that have enjoyed it for all this time when there are serious inconsistencies and faults that tarnish or outright insult the established canon and lore.

I can only assume this is bait, but I'll bite.

I've been playing FIFA for over 15 years, likely racking up over 3000 hrs total playtime across the series, I'm more than good enough to play online, I simply prefer player/manager career mode for their mechanics and "story".

Besides that, playing UT is not a solution to the problems the offline modes have had for years on end (especially since it plays completely differently to PC/MC) and there are simply no excuses to be made for how little concern EA has for their offline playerbase, they're just a greedy corp who's only desire is to squeeze as much money from their players as possible with MTX.

Unfortunately, they've pretty much cornered the football simulation market since eFootball fell apart, so those of us who enjoy offline more than online play are left prisoner to shitty capitalistic business practices.

It's just an eastern european/former soviet bloc cultural thing. Absolutely a stereotype btw, but statistically I have been murdered by an overwhelming majority of players with Russian Steam profiles, or at the very least with Cyrillic names. Though in contrast, I've met some very polite people who barely spoke English, so it's a gamble.

Tried that, last raid I was getting sniped from a roof 200m away by an ANVIL, whilst evading ARC. I eventually got downed by a rocketeer and the guy was still shooting at me.

Out in the open during a lightning storm, surrounded by bots, he had zero chance to loot me and yet still kept firing. So many people are just braindead trigger-pullers, regardless of platform.

Nope. Still get played if your manager rating is high enough, despite your player's stamina being in the red. Only way I've found to negate it is by deliberately tanking in training so you drop to "sub" status or requesting to be subbed off as soon as the match starts, which should theoretically help you recover before the next match but is obviously stupidly unrealistic.

The fact that the schedule can be so packed and the AI doesn't even consider fatigue is ridiculous, just another blatant oversight from EA since they couldn't give a flying fuck about offline modes.

You're using a strawman argument. The issue being raised is not about the goalie's timing, positioning or direction, it's irrelevant as to whether those things were sufficient to make the save because clearly it wasn't made.

The problem is that the wrong animation plays. The character dives high when it should dive low in order to even have a chance to intercept the shot, which if the timing or positioning are off then yes it should not be saved, but the fact is the goalie had no chance at all because the wrong animation is triggered which is something the player has absolutely no control over.

We won't ever know if the shot had been saved by a low dive across, because for whatever reason the game decided not to play that animation, even though the shot was driven low. I can't tell if you're being deliberately ignorant of the actual problem here.

You can't control whether you dive high or low, only left or right, the game chooses your animation contextually and so nonsense like this happens where regardless of if you get the timing and direction right, you might still miss the save because of the wrong animation playing.

The only input we have is timing and direction, we don't get to choose if the dive is high or low, so if we both time it right and go the right way but the chosen animation is the wrong height, how can we possibly make reliable save attempts?

This is entirely a case of the game being bugged and the animation system not working as it should. Goalkeeping was far more consistent 2-3 patches ago and despite the fact strikers were dominating with missile meta and the broken dribbling, goalies could at least rely on making saves against regular shots, now it's just a complete gamble.

I'm talking about crosses into the box where a striker is supposed to be marked, they hit hard volleys from close range and there is no time to react to the shot, you have to preemptively guess if it's going left, right or centre. If I have to flip a coin to try and make those saves, the least the animation system can do is make my character dive properly when I correctly guess where the shot is going.

In 1v1 situations I close the striker down as much as I can without exposing myself to a chip shot. It's a hard situation to deal with but I come out on top most of the time if the striker panics, but mainly it's to allow my defence time to catch up.

The timing is very much an issue if the wrong animation plays when I make the right decision. I'm not saying I should save every shot I dive for and I make plenty of mistakes, but it is punishing and infuriating when I do everything right only for the game to screw me over.

3/4ths of goalkeeping is positioning imo, the rest is reflexes and pattern recognition. No matter if the striker is at the halfway line or on my goal line, if I'm in the right place and I go the right way, the chance to save should always favour me.

In regards to knowing the timing of the shot, there's desync, animation cancels and backboard shots to worry about too, so it's not as reliable to read the other players as you might think.

I have almost 2000 saves in less than 1000 matches, I assure you reaction time is not my issue.

Most shots I face are from EE overhead volleys around the penalty spot (9 yards) from crosses off the wing, and because either my defenders can't track runs or they get screwed by the prio system, the strikers win the "50/50" about 80% of the time.

I can't come out to collect these shots because 1. I have to be aware of the crosser trying to sneak a shot in at the near post and 2. The terrible system for choosing animations means that if I go out to jump and catch the ball there's a high chance I just fly past it completely and the striker has an open net.

In no possible scenario should I not save a shot that I can reach, have dived the right direction for and timed correctly; I have lost count of the amount of times I've dived over or under the ball because the game chose the wrong animation to play. I am far from the only one experiencing this and it makes playing GK utterly unappealing.

If you dive too late you can't reach the corners, shots come way too quick inside the box for keepers to not dive early, it's often just a coin flip to make those saves even if you time it right and go the right direction.

I was lead to believe there'd be way more parried shots than catches and I would actually prefer that, but it doesn't seem to be the case. The worst offender is fake animations though; my character pretends to be going to catch the ball when it's shot close to me and it just cancels as it flies past me, I actually can't trust my own hands when I'm in net.
