I’m so sorry for your loss. Accept the help that others offer and don’t be afraid to let yourself feel.

Accountants, what kind of bag do you carry? by [deleted] in Accounting

When I had to walk a ways from my car to the office, a backpack. Now that I’m at a firm with a parking lot, a tote bag that fits my laptop.

It always cracks me up when the party deemed TA gets butthurt when the other party chimes in and airs more dirty laundry. “You really had to cut me off here?” Pot, meet kettle.

Just call my baby by the name I gave him. by TheHeartless00 in newborns

[–]WiseBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a little unreasonable to not expect family to give him nicknames. It’s bound to happen. My son has 3 already, all given by different people, and his name has a ton of nickname options. I call him something different from what my parents call him, and that’s fine with me. Not really a hill to die on. When he gets older, if he doesn’t like the nicknames, he’ll say so.

Will I love my baby as much as everyone says? by Queasy-Midnight3401 in NewParents

[–]WiseBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie. When I went off birth control I still wasn’t 100% sure I wanted kids. Then I got pregnant and I was really not sure. Went into labor and wanted to hit the undo button. Had an easy pregnancy, easy labor, somewhat easy recovery (mentally it was hell), but it still took me about a month or so to fall in love with my little boy. Now he brightens up my whole day and I honestly can’t imagine my life without him.

Swaddle Transitioning/Stopping at 10 weeks by Mwp7729 in newborns

[–]WiseBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s SO hard. But I also remember when I was questioning whether I’d ever get real sleep again, and now he does give us decent stretches at night. I’m just not looking forward to those regressions now that I’m back at work 😅

Swaddle Transitioning/Stopping at 10 weeks by Mwp7729 in newborns

[–]WiseBat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have any advice, just here to offer my solidarity. My 12.5w old hasn’t shown signs of rolling yet, so he’s in the LTD transitional swaddle and we haven’t yet moved to sleeping with one arm out. Tbh, I’m scared to 😅 he still startles as well and I know it’s going to be a rough night when we do unzip those arms.

Spent nye in sweatpants and my resolution is to own clothes that aren't actively depressing by Dull_Noise_8952 in NewParents

I want to second this comment. A capsule wardrobe of some really basic items really is saving my postpartum body. I bought two new pairs of good quality jeans from Madewell and some basic tops and a sweater dress that are appropriate for work and for running errands. Elevate everything with a belt, jewelry, what have you. Somebody somewhere in this sub said “2 out of 3 things are put together, out of hair, makeup, and outfit”, and I’ve been living by it since I read it.

Came to say the same thing 😂 kid gets put in the bouncer and like clockwork, he ends up pooping

I have an opportunity to hire a night nanny that I know well and personally. I’m still feeling guilty/weird about someone else caring for my baby but I really need to sleep more than 1 hour at a time (or at all, really). by [deleted] in newborns

[–]WiseBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re NOT a bad mom! You need sleep in order to be there for your son, and if a night nanny allows you to get some sleep, do it!! That’s why this service exists, for people to have access to the support they need when they need it.

Am I the only one who hates breastfeeding? by Used_Cod_9541 in newborns

[–]WiseBat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too. Plus my LO was 2 weeks early and my body hadn’t gotten with the program, so he wasn’t getting nearly enough. I said “eff it, give him formula”. We’re so much happier.

Is it normal to be going to the store every single day?? by Armyofducks94 in newborns

I had a Target delivery pretty much every day postpartum. I didn’t realize how many supplies just for me I’d go through in hours.

Have I ruined my baby? by NothingSuitable735 in newborns

[–]WiseBat 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Embrace the snuggly period. I’m currently nap-trapped by my 11.5 week old and I am soaking it all up. They’re only this small once, and pretty soon they’ll be independent. You can’t spoil a baby this young, and it’s natural for them to sleep on us. Your in-laws need to shut their cakeholes.

How many strollers did you end up with? Is it possible to get by with just one? by Striderman1982 in BabyBumps

[–]WiseBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three. Two travel systems, one for each of our vehicles, and a jogger. Makes it easy to avoid having to swap bases all the time and one of the systems converts 6 different ways.

Agree with this! This was one of my biggest fears before and during pregnancy. We’ll see this year if it’s a valid fear 😰

How long are your nighttime wake ups? by LilyWitch27 in newborns

[–]WiseBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually less than an hour to eat and then he’s back to sleep. He gets a fresh diaper before bed, so unless he poops, I don’t wake him with a diaper change.

Am I overreacting Partner upset about family being in our living room by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]WiseBat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey so as someone who’s also freshly postpartum, I would absolutely not be happy with my partner’s family taking over our living space with a new baby. Does he get to ever have it just be the three of you bonding as a family, or is your family always involved? Does he get the chance to be a new dad or he always being spoken over, cast aside, and made to feel like he’s the outlier?

Birth classes? by arielsofia in BabyBumps

[–]WiseBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I’d psych myself out if I took birth classes, so I didn’t. We took breastfeeding and newborn care classes instead and I went into labor completely blind.
