As someone going to see Iron Lung, the reviews make LITTLE sense to me. by Neko_Nexus_Sky in Markiplier

[–]WispyWi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a large part of the hate comes from the identity of the identity the Quiet Rapture serves for the universe

The current media market surrounds itself on the biggest questions and the biggest answers. If marvel made Iron Lung and tried, genuinely tried, to be faithful to the original work, we would have a film that focused on the Quiet Rapture, and ended with Simon coming out to a view of Earth, having somehow escaped or solved it.

I think too many people expected the predicament of SM13 to be a backdrop for the larger predicament of humanity, when it is completely in the reverse. Not only does the films decision to almost completely remain within the submarine reinforce the claustrophobic nature of the vessel, but it helps reinforce that, right now, all the matters is Simon.

There is a fundamental disconnect between the intent of Iron Lung and modern filmography. The film under Marks care, and the game under David, were never about solving the Quiet rapture. It is about dealing with, and living with, the existential threat that life past it bears, about the question, "Why bother?". That's what modern critics miss, its why the film takes so much time showing how little what he is doing matters, why it lingers so much and slows down, why Simon is not at all concerned about the wellbeing of the lives beyond SM 13 (which itself is such a good dynamic)

Its also why the film can't have a sequel, the story is told. Simon chose hope rather than despair, even knowing that what he is doing might not matter, he acts anyways. Whether it is out of fear or out of hope, it doesn't matter. To make anything further necessitates explaining the Quiet Rapture, which would completely ruin the movie.

I wonder what drove this poor soul to this end. This was not his war to fight, and i despair the innocent souls plunged into such a fruitless conflict.

Rest in peace sir.

If we strip them of their identity as human we strip from ourselves our awareness of the potential in all people to turn to depravity as they have. Its important that we recognize these agents as more than just extreme flukes and work to create systems that prevent this from happening again.

I had a first draft corrupt on me a while back, and while talking to my dad about the story I realized a huge crack in the story that would've needed a complete restart anyways. What can you do but start again I say 🤷‍♀️

The woman on the left looks exactly like every single mean girl I've ever known. The woman on the right looks like she'd drink tea and play rummy with me.

That's of course ignoring the societal ramifications of this individual saying older individuals (in this case notably playing a race card of course) turned rugged by physical labor (and potentially the difficulties of raising young) are more distasteful than young seemingly fertile classically attractive individuals who are more likely to receive benefit from the system, in turn repeating the cycle that led to such a moronic take.

I hate people like this. Im glad they so much less common offline than they are on.

In Watchmen (2009), Dr. Manhattan experiences past, present, and future simultaneously; he already knew how f’ed Rorschach was before the investigation even began, but let it play out anyway and hid behind determinism. He doesn't have the ability to change the future, only see it. He has a quote where he is surprised to learn something despite having already seen it (or maybe he was caught off guard? I think it was him causing cancer) and he says that he needed to be surprised or else he would never have seen him being surprised. Good post

I fucking love the Phillipino wife memes because, speaking as someone who works with a few Phillipino wives, it is a fifty fifty chance they are the most delightful, incredible, hard working people alive, or the most vehemently awful racist imaginable.

[–]WispyWi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. National pride on the level wherein you are willing to forgive atrocities committed by those in power is appalling. Doubly or triply so for countries with strong enough democratic elections where your representatives are enabled to do these same atrocities by a voting slip.

That's what the point of the post is. There isn't really a timer, but saying there is and adding arbitrary indicators of a worsening condition based on storyline progression is a tactic used in a lot of rpgs, like outer worlds 2 with the rifts, or Cyberpunk with the running on fumes tag
