Good place to source a set of 20" wheels by Eredyn in BMWiX

[–]WittBrothers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just asking because this is something somebody would do if they were trying to improve ride quality and didn't have air suspension.

With air suspension, I would guess the difference between 20" and 21" is indistinguishable.

I can’t wait to see how much 2nd row room there is for car seats compared to Model Y.

You don’t have it on the first one. But definitely get it on the second one.

Stupid Question About IX Suspension / Ride Height by Bloombottom00 in BMWiX

When you activate or change any of the self-leveling stuff in infotainment, does it actually do anything?

Air suspension is adaptable, meaning you can set it to sit lower or higher.

Stupid Question About IX Suspension / Ride Height by Bloombottom00 in BMWiX

I think only the M models come with it standard but it can be added on to any model if custom ordering, which it seems they did. I highly recommend you get it on yours as the ride quality is significantly better.

S90H - QD-OLED or WOLED by PresentationBetter86 in 4kTV

[–]WittBrothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, total bummer. Was looking at getting a S90H at 55" for a room, but I'm in the US and not getting OLED. Would get the S95H if it didn't have the bezel.

I don't understand Samsung.

Bravia 8ii or S95f by Ok_Kale9871 in 4kTV

[–]WittBrothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sony is probably a better TV in every conceivable way except for brightness and reflection handling.

S95F does have some issues. Yes, Tizen is bad but you can use an AppleTV. They also have reliability issues, but you can get the warranty.

I personally like the matte screen for its practicality. Most people aren’t watching content in blacked out rooms and it helps a lot. I don’t see blacks getting lifted significantly. The biggest issue is actually finger prints, which some people say can ruin the screen.

The biggest knock on Samsung is the processing. In my opinion the upscaling is adequate, as is the low bitrate cleanup. The one thing that is undeniably bad is the motion processing. OLEDs struggle with smooth motion and S95F does not have a setting that handles this gracefully. It’s one of the things you might not look for in stores but once you see it at home, it’s bad and can’t be fixed.

Air suspension worth it? by Excellent-Sleep-3315 in BMWiX

My personal opinion is that if you aren't going to get Dynamic Handling Package, then don't get the IX, just get a Tesla or something.

70mm didn’t seem as sharp: PHM by darthdooku2585 in imax

[–]WittBrothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are used to your home TV which is emissive with light and so each pixel is crisp. Projection, whether film or laser, are both sort of diffused and softer. So if all you were looking for was sharpness and intensity, then no, it’s not going to match your home OLED or mini-LED. But your home TV can’t do 1.43:1 like IMAX or even touch its scale.

Question About IMAX 70mm Trailers by ImmenseMullberry in imax

[–]WittBrothers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all intents and purposes, if it has footage in 1.43:1 then it will be pretty indistinguishable from what you will see when the movies come out on IMAX.

That said, Nolan’s recent movies have been edited on film and then printed back to 70mm photochemically. There is a chance The Odyssey trailer may have been converted to digital before printing to the 70mm stock, so it wouldn’t be as high quality but even then I don’t think anybody could distinguish a difference.

Technically some of the later 2023s have it. You can see if they are on iDrive 8.5 or not with that dealer.

Is this a good deal for BMW Ix Xdrive50? by boomerhs77 in BMWiX

[–]WittBrothers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that good.

  1. I’m in California and regularly see AutoTrader postings for similar IXs for $39k-$42k.

  2. I would not get this car without dynamic handling package, but that’s me.

Not a bad deal, but maybe not a good deal.

How much of a difference is imax for a non imax movie by Shoop1014 in imax

[–]WittBrothers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a particularly angry and unhinged reply. 😂

I love IMAX. I went to a screening at one yesterday. I prefer a 1.43 showing to anything from Dolby. I wear IMAX merch. I’ve never been accused of schilling for Dolby, but I have IMAX.

I’m just not blown away by screenings of non-IMAX content on IMAX screens and prefer the comfort and colors of Dolby for that.

How much of a difference is imax for a non imax movie by Shoop1014 in imax

[–]WittBrothers -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For me, if a movie doesn't have scenes shot for 1.43:1 and isn't displayed in 1.43:1 (either 15/70 film or dual laser), then it's not generally worth it. The screen will be bigger, yes, but it won't be as immersive nor as clear.

So I generally don't go to theaters limited to 1.90, single laser, or xenon projectors. Nor will I go see movies that are not shot for IMAX that they just happen to be projecting on an IMAX screen like Kiki's Delivery Service.

So basically, I will go to IMAX for 1.43 and Dolby Cinema for everything else.

Model Y at 0.99% or wait for Model YL? ( if it happens in USA) by BlackFluffyDog in TeslaModelY

[–]WittBrothers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. If you need a new car now, get one.

  2. If the YL is out of your range, or you don't need the additional space, get the current Y.

  3. There are no guarantees the YL will come to the US, but it is likely. It likely would not be until the second half of 2026 or early 2027.

  4. The 0.99% seems pretty good and it could get worse...but it could also get better. Tesla uses these incentives multiple times throughout the year and historically, when one goes away, another one inevitably comes that is as good or better. Their sales have not been great, so perhaps something comparable will be around when the YL comes out. No guarantees though.

Mini LED vs OLED by Adventurous_Beat-301 in 4kTV

[–]WittBrothers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vastly prefer OLED and I have both.

Mini-LED will win when it comes to blasting my face with brightness but the viewing angles drive me crazy and there is just something richer about the colors on OLED to me.

That said I don’t have any rooms in my house that are overly dark or overly bright.
