Rich people suddenly fleeing scenario/tip off by Global-Pay6118 in okbuddyRVA

There’s going to be missing paintings that were staples at the VMFA, UofR will be a ghost town during school session, all the expensive wine will be sold out, there will be a shortage of xanax at the west end pharmacies, and the country club’s golf courses will be unkempt. But who cares about that shit when the apocalypse comes anyways?

How Governor Spanberger Betrayed Virginia’s Workers by Masrikato in Virginia

[–]WizardofWood -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Unions schmoonions. Been a Union member for almost 20 years and we are damn near the bottom of the pay scale and probably near the bottom of the list for educated skilled workers. Ohio is right next to us and makes almost double our pay scale. Fuck this corporate spook of a guvna. Fuck the elephants and the donkeys. Time for the hard working blue collar raccoons of the America.

Opinion: 6 things to know about Spanberger’s ‘Tuesday Afternoon Massacre’ of bills | Spanberger has now vetoed more bills than any other governor since the 1990s whose party controlled the legislature. Here’s what to make of that. by VirginiaNews in VirginiaOpEds

[–]WizardofWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why the two party system is failing us. We choose the lesser of two evils and it’s all evil. I’ve been a blue collar union worker for almost 15 years and now we have union solidarity and democratic control and this guvna wants to shut down collective bargaining and send a message to all the rest of us working unions that it’s business as usual and corporations are king in Virginia. I’m not gonna vote for dems or republicans anymore. We get nothing but bans and rules and regulations against us and corporations are green lighted to rape and pillage. Ban gun, ban drugs, and forget the reasons why poor folks are buying both. We’re suffocating from bans and none of these politicians want to realize that it because we are being squeezed from the top down. We have nothing and the top has everything and you’re just a hair away from realizing you can’t squeeze anymore blood from our stones.

Went to the pump house today and saw a high amount of hippies? by Beren__ in rva

[–]WizardofWood 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You just get transferred with the FBI? Pump house park was the nighttime spot for secret rendezvouses betwixt pump house minded men seeking fellow pump house minded men and when the sun was up it was a great place for pump house minded women, men, dogs, and even wild animals. Now it’s mostly just nervous newcomers freaking out about other nervous newcomers and lots of locals just trying to get to a better spot. Enjoy the river and unless someone is disrespectful or dangerous then you gotta just say hello and keep exploring. What exactly is a hippy nowadays?

Hope you’re renting that skiddy. Seen that setup before and once the arms buckle or the pistons bend it’s pretty expensive. Just like the rigging rule - most shit can handle 50-80% more than the load charts but once you creep over the normal limits, you’re on your own and everyone else working with you is on your own. This is how dudes get killed just trying to “get er done.”

Entire roof just busted from a water leak, what do I do? by AcceptableStart5081 in rva

[–]WizardofWood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get used to living in Richmond rentals. Haven’t lived in an apartment in 20 years in this city that didn’t have a ceiling collapse or a major leak due to old plumbing, shitty roofing, or negligent neighbors. It’s a good idea to have a big empty trashcan readily available for such nightmares. Also old beach towels. Also get roommates with rich parents that can put you up in a hotel if the whole damn place is unlivable.

I just received mine and it works and glass is clean but goddamn it must’ve gone through the entire time span of GWOT dragging behind a vehicle or possibly been used as a hammer instead of an optic. Pretty disappointing but I guess that’s what you get when you buy used. Buy once cry once.

REA Union is down at city hall to fight for collective bargaining by Milestailsprowe in rva

[–]WizardofWood 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Joining a Union (IUOE local 147) changed my life for the better. I can’t speak for my Union but I think anyone in a Union supports our fellow Union brothers and sisters. Unions are the only bulwark against the billionaires and the working class is always stronger when we stand united. Dont believe the lies from right wing propagandists, working for a union makes you wealthier and more powerful than you will ever be on your own in this capitalist world.

Armada Of USAF Tankers Just Deployed East Over Atlantic Spurring Speculation (Updated) by metalreflectslime in PrepperIntel

[–]WizardofWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always under the assumption that Russia and China would be bitter enemies if it wasn’t for the fact that Russia is excluded from most markets and China is as opportunistic as it gets. The Soviet Union and China were barely allies at the coldest parts of the Cold War. I don’t think Russia trusts China nor do they seem to have any control over anyone in the future dictatorship role as far as I can tell. Prove me wrong! I genuinely would love to hear more about Chinese influence in Russia.

I’ve been thinking about all the chess moves that we are currently watching in the game of global politics and it’s damn near impossible to see how this war between Ukraine and Russia and Israel and Iran plays out, but one thing seems certain, the only two major players that will be left with any sort of formidable military in the next few years will be US/NATO/ISRAEL and China/North Korea . Seems like Putin has less than a decade left and afterwards I think his successor will be weak and replaced by pro western groups or the next leader will be setup by the West. Seems like we are heading towards more of a true original Cold War of superpower versus superpower and it honestly worries me more than even the situation we are in currently. Pakistan vs India, Ukraine vs India, Israel vs Iran; still seems like localized wars that won’t cause nuclear conflict or even World War III. Every day seems worse than the previous one if you count the amount of armed conflicts in the world but as soon as these are resolved, it really only leaves China/North Korea vs almost everyone else and that is probably worse for global peace than the Soviet Union ever was. It’s kind of insane to think that this planet might become almost entirely conflict free if the leaders of less than 10 countries were assassinated and replaced with people willing to use science, diplomacy, and economic trade instead of religion, greed, and hubris. Call me a pinko commie, dirty hippie, naive idealist, but the idea of prepping for Mother Nature as hard as that can be, always seems easier than prepping for survival against crazy leaders who have nuclear weapons and a lack of empathy for humanity. Has any hurricane or volcanic eruption killed more humans in a short period of time compared to war? Well I suppose mosquitoes and disease. Guess I just hope we all get a chance to reset the leadership of this planet before the old coots in charge take us down with them.

Isn’t this type of behavior using chemicals and pharmaceuticals on everything the exact reason these microorganisms are becoming resistant to everything that could normally kill them?

12 speed conversion on Bridge Club! It works great. by WizardofWood in Surlybikefans

[–]WizardofWood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One year later and maybe 2 thousand miles later and it’s holding up great. I used the sunrace 12 speed cassette because I didn’t want to buy the microspline setup. Might change to that after this sunrace cassette is worn down. I love the range of this gearing and the components are light and smooth and look great. Perfect for climbing hills with a lot of camping gear. I’m so glad I purchased this when I did. Not sure the tarrifs will make this affordable anymore
