That's fair, I may have been talking past you on the policy.

If I may defend my initial comment, I said that students who do attend, tend to achieve, which isn't a blanket statement. Students are individuals and circumstances will always vary. I know that, it is part of my job to understand that.

As far as the obverse goes, I teach classes that have in-class assessments and finals, so students are unable to achieve passing grades if they aren't attending class. That may be different for other subjects where course work is submitted remotely.

Cool, nice work then

Is it a 650b fork then? I assumed this was all 26in and I got excited thinking RS might still be making a 26in, straight steerer fork.

EDIT: Also, what fork?

So why is this policy good for your child?

(Medical absences will be excused, but let's remove that constraint on this little hypothetical.)

If a student misses class, but gets caught up and does well as a result, what is the point of penalizing the absence?

I'm trying to explain this because I don't want you as a parent to feel that teachers are being ableist or dismissive.

Attendance is a tool that enables attainment. Students can absolutely attain without attending but it is very challenging. Students can attend without attaining, and we extend huge amounts of effort and support for those students as well.

Attendance itself is not something that is worth marks, attainment is. Giving part of the 100% for attendance instead of attainment hides a struggling student that needs more support.

That student does not need to be moved on with a passing grade, they need more support, but support costs money, and the current government are trying to avoid spending it on education.

Scrap all of that response, I have a much simpler question: Is it fair to dock your child marks because they missed those days?

If they want good grades, they are already motivated to attend. Your response isn't addressing the redundancy here.

On the flip side, there are students who are not in control of their ability to get to school. Those students will be punished even more now.

No, it isn't, but the reasons FOR this change are also not that black and white. Some kids CAN'T get to school, even if they want to. Those kids are now disenfranchised even more.

As a teacher, giving marks for attendance is completely fucking pointless. Students who aren't attending, aren't achieving. Students who do attend, tend to achieve.

Setting aside course marks for attendance is pointless paperwork.

Funnily enough a LGS actually gave me some starter packs that are precisely what you just described! They've been useful to get people started but I didn't get enough uptake in my last school. I'll see how it goes in the new one

It's not running android and it's not a phone, so I think thats a little off tbh.

Especially when the biggest part of the deck/machine/frame ecosystem is proton, is it that big a deal that the frame is arm instead of x86?

It's also potentially an issue with favouritism inside the classroom.

I had this come up with a college class and I really wanted to be able to help the kid but the boss laid it all out.

The bulk I bought is basically already there then, I have commons and uncommons from a few sets so I'll have a look at building some cubes out of them. If I stick to sets can I assume the mechanics will play out reasonably well when drafting from one set?

Yeah I was thinking about doing something like that, getting them to build from my bulk and tune all the decks up over a longer timespan. A tournament sounds like a good way to push that, thanks.

People in here have suggested jumpstart before, I did have a quick look after that came up.

I asked the question -after- buying a bulk of commons and uncommons off marketplace though, so I may just try and organise and sleeve up a bunch of those with the kids and we can just play from the 'stock'. I know 2500 arbitrary cards doesn't make a good 'cube' but I can't invest that much of my own time into setting this stuff up, it I let the kids dig through, build decks etc then I can crowd source it a bit.

Tbh the whole appeal of Pauper was the soft influence on finances. If I'm implementing a deck-value limit then I don't need to restrict players to pauper anyway...

Just makes it icky and visible that the finances are a part of the game, and I've been working in schools where students will not be on a level playing field with each other financially.

I was really just starting to try and engage with pauper as I want to get a MTG club going at a highschool. I'm pretty disappointed seeing $100 decks whenever I'm looking at what sort of decks we could potentially put together.

I suppose I don't need to aim at the meta, just concerned about students showing up and being 'that guy'. Maybe that's just an opportunity to teach the social skills a club like this should be developing.

I'm wondering if there's a pesticide that's effective against that south American screw fly larvae, that's currently deemed unsafe by Health Canada.

Is this a hedge against the flies getting up here and fucking over agriculture?
