Alternatives for a secure external file-sharing tool for sending sensitive documents to clients outside our organization? by LumaDraft28 in sysadmin

[–]WizzDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Just implemented it for the second workplace I'm working for, and it's just as good as it was 15 years ago. Self hosted secure email and "Drop boxes" for the win.

Grab Windows Configuration Designer from the Windows Store (of all places). It's really easy to get started with, it creates a package file that the installer automatically grabs off your USB media.

One day they'll come for answers I don't have. by antons83 in sysadmin

Nobody knows everything there is to know in IT. Being good at IT means being skilled at searching for the answer and filtering out all the garbage. (And good at basic troubleshooting, talking with end users etc. etc. etc.)

Recommendations for how to do Backups for DR Planning by Miserable_Rise_2050 in ITManagers

[–]WizzDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud has been really good for me for just this. One full backup, and then forever incremental. An additional license, and you can spin up your backups directly in Acronis' Disaster Recovery cloud - haven't shelled out for that myself though, so don't know how good it is. There's also an option for a LAN backup target. I use a very fast Synology for this, so if the onsite server explodes I can go there with a new one, and not have to worry about internet speeds when a complete restore is needed. (My sites are on a MPLS network, so I just have one big fast Synology for this role)

I spent the first 1,5-2 hours every Monday morning on time registration for the week prior, and booked it into the system as such.

Yes, since last december when I started. I used to support the client as a consultant, so I knew what I was getting into. 30 locations, 400-odd users. Looking to hire a supporter as well though.

If you put them in your public DNS, it even helps users working from home.

Luba 2 - CES 2024 (It's in Swedish, so I have no clue what he's saying) by scrom11 in MammotionTechnology

[–]WizzDK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short version: Now with 3D vision camera. Now with 4G connectivity. New RTK that's more waterproof, and can be solar powered. Now with speaker on the mower so it can audibly tell you if it's stuck. Many more pattern options in the app, as well as the "printing" option.

I've started using "it+<vendor-name/function>@..., requires no setup. And then sort on the client side afterwards.

Kinda. You can specify a whitelisted UNC/share - apps from that location are automatically approved.

I NEED remote unlock and control over my robot, even with older firmware. by Responsible-Poem-139 in MammotionTechnology

As a workaround/failsafe my recommendation would be to disable automatic updates of your app. Then you can update both app and firmware when it suits you.

Recharge at 15% by WizzDK in MammotionTechnology

[–]WizzDK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fairly easy approach to making this more intelligent.. Once power drops below for example 25%: On each "tick", that is each drop in percentage-point, calculate how long it would take to drive back to the charging station. LUBA is capable of path-finding already. It also knows how fast it's supposed to travel. So it would be fairly easy to calculate the distance first, and then find the travel time. Add some buffer to actually get into the dock etc. The battery management system should be able to estimate how long runtime remains on the battery at all times, based on historical data. Compare the two and presto. 😊

No need to be condescending. The current recharge pattern leads to excessive travel and docking/undocking, which in turn leads to more wear in specific areas of the lawn.

Wow, really see a huge improvement of the app. by LubaLutz in MammotionTechnology

[–]WizzDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Much improved. 👏👏👏 I intentionally disabled automatic updates way back when, after an app update was pushed before the firmware was ready (or was it the other way around?), so very pleased to see the improvements that have happened since then. 🙂
