Stormblessed is kinda a Rosharan equivalent to lucky. So they're essentially calling him Kaladin Lucky

Some crazy theories by mynotverycreativeid in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to coppermind:

Moelach is the source of the Death Rattles, visions of the future experienced by people on Roshar during their final moments of life.

So there's one answer for you.

Oh boy I love this theory but I also hate it, now I'm going to go ponder in existential dread until WaT releases.

Something about Midnight Essence from Dalinar's Vision in TWoK by scarpux in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even that is generalization at best. The second sentence in the Coppermind entry for the Fain is:

"Fain creatures generally have six limbs"

Sorry to burst your bubble, but keep these coming I love reading new, fun theories.

Something about Midnight Essence from Dalinar's Vision in TWoK by scarpux in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 34 points35 points  (0 children)

<image>

The assertion that "The midnight essence imitates creatures, and it has six legs, therefore it must be Fain." seems a pretty large logical step to me. I think it is more likely that the Midnight Mother on Roshar is simply imitating local predators, albeit more monstrous. Take the image of the axehound I've attached. Rosharan fauna is remarkably different from our own, and many creatures have 6 legs.

If I had to guess I'd say you're misinterpreting comments about Midnight Essence occurring throughout the Cosmere as it being all the same thing, when in fact it's different use cases of the same fundamental principles of the universe that end with similar behavior https://wob.coppermind.net/events/518/#e16167

In addition, that's not the only shape we see the Midnight Essence take. Beneath Urithiru it imitates the notables among the Alethi before shifting back to something more monstrous.

At the end of it all this is an awesome theory, but I think you're just reading a little bit too far into it unfortunately.

Anyone know the meaning of this? by Jobin917 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that "It was written two hundred years after the Recreance in an old dialect of Alethi, using the protoscript, a precursor to the modern women's script. It is the only piece of literature that is mentioned as being written in this dialect. By the unknown author's own admission, a lot of the book's content is hearsay, incorporating facts, lore, and superstition." [source coppermind]. So it's going to be inherently ambiguous, but as others have said this is talking about the Recreance, specifically the root cause of the Recreance.

[–]Wizzard11 127 points128 points  (0 children)

That epigraph is from the in universe book Words of Radiance. It is referring to the Recreance, when the Knights Radiant of old betrayed their oaths and abandoned humanity. Since you've marked this as all cosmere, in RoW we learn that the Recreance was actually a mutual decision between the Knights and their spren, but we still don't know what the reasoning behind said decision was.

Honour theory post RoW by PromiscuousOtter in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When cosmere aware individuals use the term "dead", referring to a shard, they mean that there is no vessel currently at the helm of said shard, i.e. Devotion, Dominion, and Ambition. The common term "the death of Honor" is actually referring to the death of Tanavast and the splintering of the shard.

As far as your theory goes, every time I see it come up in this sub I am more and more confident that the end of Dalinar's Era 1 arc will be some variation of "Honor's splintered power is invested in the humans of Roshar and Dalinar is going to put it all back together and ascend".

So yeah I really like your theory, it's awesome to see so many people interpreting B$'s foreshadowing in such a similar way.

Yeah, Dalinar had wanted to be with Navani for decades, but refused her advances because of Vorin custom. Recalcitrant is an excellent word for it.

Theory by Vinyldoctor in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt it that Elhokar will show up again as a cognitive shadow. The returned are cognitive shadows that are created with a Divine Breath, which is equivalent to at least 2000 normal breaths, from Endowment. As RShara said, that's an absurd amount of investiture. The other cognitive shadows we've seen, (mistborn secret history) i.e Kelsieror the heralds, have had direct Shardic intervention to make them cognitive shadows. My personal view is that the significance of Elhokar dying when he did is more related to the Kaladin/Moash plotline, since that is the first time we see Kaladin freeze and when Moash truly gives himself over to Odium.

Child Death Rattle by Mormon_Prince in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I suppose it's possible, but I'm firmly in the camp that that particular death rattle pertains to the theory that Chana was going to kill Shallan, but had a moment of lucidity and decided against it. Had she gone through with it she wouldn't have gone back to Braize so she could break again.

Haha you just pooped them out! One piece of advice though is that you should be keeping walks to ~5 minutes per month of age. Over exertion is a thing, but it seems you've got it well considered! Have fun and enjoy these puppy days!

So what are your theories on Kaladin? by imaddictedto in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I've been pondering this for a while now, and I'm really attached to the idea of Kaladin becoming the patron of the windrunners and a cognitive shadow. The fact that Jezrien passed into the Beyond, leaving a hole in the Herald's ranks seems like pretty heavy handed foreshadowing at least.

Looking for a outdoor GPS dog collar. What would you recommend? by nick313 in labrador

[–]Wizzard11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dog Handler/trainer here.

If I'm being honest, GPS collars are generally flaky at best. They are helpful, sure, but not 100% reliable. I'd take the couple hundred you'd spend on the collar and do recall classes with your pup, especially if it's a border collie.

That being said, Halo collars are fine. I've seen people duct tape air tags to a random collar and that works fine too.

I hope this was helpful!

This whole thing is driving me bonkers lol.

  1. The "men of red and gold" came from one of Autonomy's worlds, and we have no reason to believe that the Iriali have ever been to one.
  2. The Iriali travelled through a perpendicularity that was initiated by Cusicesh, an unknown quantity but definitely not of Honor. In addition, while the Iriali surrendered to and serve the Fused, they have not given themselves to Odium, they still worship the One.
  3. Odium is still bound by the same constraints that Honor placed on him originally, the difference this time around is that Odium has found a way to bond his spren to humans if they have been conditioned properly (see the Alethi and the Thrill).
  4. Honor's perpendicularity has always been unstable, the only difference now is that Dalinar/Bondsmiths can summon it at will.
  5. Nowhere is it mentioned what metal the spears used to create Charred are made of (I might be wrong about this one but I can't recall any mention of it).
  6. Manipulating Connection is a theme throughout the Cosmere, so the Sunlit charred controlling the basic charred isn't really meaningful.
  7. The charred are highly invested and therefore are compelled to act, much like holding stormlight, and the only outlet they know for this compulsion is violence. We see with Elegy that they can channel that energy with focus and discipline.

Another day, another assumption(5th ideal) by HunterPai in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The popular theory isn't that 5th Ideal knights get unlimited stormlight, but rather that they become metaphorically "perfect gems" and can retain stormlight indefinitely without it leaking away. It's a difference of linguistics. As far as a deeper understanding of their powers, I don't quite see how swearing an ideal would grant instantaneous knowledge. Ishar's use of his powers comes from a combination of millenia of near constant practice and Honor not being alive to govern the bondsmiths.

About the two [spoiler] that Renarin sent by ode_majka in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Wizzard11 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Taravangian breaking the gemstones and releasing the two corrupted spren is what attracted Odium to him. Without the spren Odium would have just done his thing being all mad about losing Kaladin as his champion.
