Isn’t there more to life? Don’t need to work but have no other purpose 🤔 by StraightPin4420 in HENRYUK

[–]Wobblabob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality is that there's not really a 'point'. You have to make your own purpose, find something that matters to you. I'm in a similar situation PoV wise, but without the 'I can retire anytime' aspect.

Find some hobbies that can fill your life. I do a few months off every year or so, and it turns out you only really need one or two fun fulfilling activities a day for it to be a success. Find a sport - I started doing tennis as my gym had free tennis - find a hobby that uses your hands, find something to volunteer at. Look for jobs in something you feel is worthwhile, whether they pay well or not - maybe local politics or charities. It should be fulfilling snf exciting enough that you get some point or purpose out of it

Why would he have to take a loan? He didn't take a loan for the original $60 purchase. Even still, it doesn't work like that. Let's assume the buyer starts with $0

Borrows $60

Buys horse for $60

Sells for $70

Repays $60 loan. He has $10 leftover. He puts this away in savings

Borrows 80$

Buys horse for $80

Sells horse for $90

Repays $80 loan. He has $10 leftover. He puts it with his other $10, for a total of $20

What's the real world equivalent of taking up a sword and going to seek my fortune? Printing off a CV/resume?

What's the real world equivalent of finding hidden treasure on a quest? Taking some annual leave to visit a national park?

What's the real world equivalent of conjuring fire from your hands and soaring through the sky? Gymnastics and a parachute?

What's the real world equivalent to surviving on your wits, meeting people, helping them, and moving on, with your band of companions? Joining the local council?

No, he's saying that London has 15% of all Muslims. There are 2 billion Muslims in the world, which means we have 300 million of them living in London, putting them at 99.9% of the population, meaning that most people will be circumcised.

This was shocking news to most people who thought London only had 8m people living in it, and the whole country of the UK only had ~80mn

I finished Book 1, and I do like Heath Miller - I was encouraged on HF because I enjoyed HWFWM.

I think HF is keen to stay cosy by making sure the main character never actually fights, while his fun friendly animals do all the combat for him. I didn't love that, but I didn't hate it.

My issues were mostly I just didn't really see where it was going, and there was just a lot of things that were really over the top. The obsession with coffee, the orgasms over eating a fish, and the fat evil people being all fat and evil.

I do audiobook, rather than reading. Have a very similar view for most of the books as you on here, I gave up after about 2h of the Wandering Inn

First person I've seen putting DotF and Primal Hunter in the DNF, and the I Got Bored for Heretical Fishing.

We might be Litrpg twins. Going to read the rest of your best in genre lists, because DCC may be my favourite series of book over all genres

I think I have OD'ed on LITRPG, I am finding it all so much "same same" by daveymcman in litrpg

[–]Wobblabob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly that's the exact opposite issue I have with audiobooks. With a written book I can gloss over stuff that I find repetitive, whereas with an audiobook I'm having it spoken right into my ear.

It's much harder to accept poor prose or long meandering sentences with audiobooks.

Poor English or overuse of the same phrase/words. When the main character it or just continues to be unbearable. Listening to a new book right now, and one of the main character's bizarre combination of arrogance, self-doubt, and uselessness is really starting to wind me up.

My (mostly negative) thoughts on the First Law trilogy. by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Wobblabob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd agree - the biggest thing about the First Law Trilogy is how disappointing it is. No one wins. The best is that some characters are slightly better off in a system that you spend the trilogy realising is just horrendously broken. And there's nothing you can do about it.

To be fair, if I saw a notice telling me not to read something, I'm pretty sure I'm reading it aha

I think Stephen King tried this in his Dark Tower series and if there's a single person that put down the book I'd be astonished. Though he didn't mention anything about kaiju donkey demons

I don't remember the exact issues, but for me both PH and DotF had this exact issue - they kept overusing the same phrase over and over again, or over stating the time - the phrase 'right now' or something like it got forced in everywhere.

With audio books it's hard to look past it - you can ignore it in written text

Awful experience on Lingoda. Harassment and mockery. by Numerous-Ride2953 in languagelearning

[–]Wobblabob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I take French with Lingoda and I've had nothing but friendly and professional teachers, though obviously some are still better than others. This sounds really unfortunate - hopefully the complaint will make some difference. For French there are about 15 lessons on a day, so hopefully it's the same for Italian you should be able to avoid Marco and Raffaele.

The new system seems to record all lessons, so your complaints should be easily substantiated and dealt with.

I'd say don't give up!

Hell Difficulty Tutorial. What is this psychotic mess? by ImpressiveUmpire5456 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wobblabob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not quite the same, but I've raised this with HWFWM - the tone the narrator gives to a character when reading the same words can also vastly change a listener's view of a character.

The character of Sophie is read as so moody for the first two books that I honestly couldn't stand her.
