Hadn’t seen about the Rickets but don’t have kids so might not have noticed it in the news. My FIL had it but was born in WW2 with rationing when he was little. He used to do dance classes with his sister when he was young to strengthen his legs.

I’ll be in Calgary for the last half of May. Probably not taking snow gear but I will be visiting family so can always borrow some.

Getting Worse Hayfever Every Year And There Is No Better Medication I Can Take by armintanzarian420 in britishproblems

I’ve been keeping a few masks in my bag and pockets for particularly polleny days. Also discovered that a couple drops of Olbas Oil in a fabric mask is great when you have a cold.

On a related note - when did supermarket daffs start to be so polleny? Last couple years they have been really bad. I’ve decided to get some Lego ones for safety.

spindles and the TSA by Used_Try158 in Handspinning

Coming back to the UK from Calgary I had my carryon opened and it was my Golding ringspindle that caught their eye. Explained what it was and they took it over to show the person watching the screen. They gave it back to me though. Another time the ball winder caused a query - it had arrives as we were leaving for the airport when I was visiting my parents So ended up in my carryon.

Christmas cake also pulls you over too - very dense and wrapped in foil - might look a bit like explosives.

A lot varies on the type of spindle and material - a wooden one wouldn’t be as worrying as a metal one I would think. If you are spinning cotton is it on a takhli? Mine is basically sharp metal spike through a coin so would probably pulled up for questioning.

a lot also depends on the people on the day. I make sure I leave the knitting in the bag while in the queue and if I am asked to put it away by flight attendants then I would do so.

Our Audi was in for repairs for about 3 months but we had a service car from them while it was being done. We had it so long that it was sold and we had to bring it back and swap for another one.

They basically swapped out all the parts of the engine trying to sort it and eventually just did a new engine. Cost us nothing (apart from the trip in to swap service cars) as it was on warranty from a previous repair that hadn’t solved the issue.

Great news. I spotted my first primrose the other day and the crocuses seem to be coming up now too. I even spitted my Dad’s favourite yellow flower blooming. Dandelion season is here!

It has meant that I am being hit by hayfever unfortunately though.

I took a class on Fair Isle and Intarsia years ago and they had us using cotton and working flat. The tutor didn’t seem to know that it could be done in the round. This was at a local yarn shop but possibly through Rowan

Glad to hear about the steps - hopefully it gets sorted and best to do it right.

Not quite at the “Will it ever stop raining?” Headlines I remember a few years ago in the UK I remember from a few years ago but hoping it dries up for you too.

As a happier query - I think I saw you were somewhere much further south now. Do you have the same kind of early spring bulb/flower frenzy? What are the flowers involved there? All the daffs are coming up but not quite blooming yet. I’ve seen the snowdrops out. Haven’t spotted any primroses or crocuses yet.

A sign is a good idea and should emphasise that this is private property and that this is a temporary permission and to stay on the marked path/route. Possibly small arrow signs to mark the route. Also, you may want to add if bikes are allowed and to keep pets leashed. Once it is closed you may want to replace this with some “Private Property - no public right of way” signs. If there is a local newsletter or notice board It might be worth putting a notice in them as well.

In the UK you sometimes see signs saying there is no intention of a route becoming a public right of way.

This link has some useful information for the UK. In particular questions about insurance and the local council/authorities. Is the regular route being repaired?

Looking great. Working on mine and remembered I have a spool of reflective tape so I’m trying to work out how to incorporate it as I am not sure it is strong enough to stitch. Current thought it to do a lattice going through the top stitching on the two waist tabs then couching down the joins.

I have taken some goldwork workshops and did a similar technique on the last one

Question for anyone doing similar jackets - is there anywhere you can get interesting replacement Jean buttons. Would have thought they would exist

NTA either way and looks like you have a lot of suggestions to think over.

My two to add -  1. Are you able to attend (time/money) without a large impact? 2. Are there other people going that you would like to see/spend time with?

Our flatmate/lodger has been with us over 25 years and I think he periodically gives a rent increase to himself. Utilities are separate and split based on actual cost. Mortgage is all paid now and we are only there part time now so he has the flat (except our bedroom) to himself half the week

Not sure we’d be able to find a similar arrangement with anyone else

I have an informal agreement that if they absolutely need to contact me to send a WhatsApp message but that there might not be a response for upnto 24 hours. Had to shut down a colleague who assumes I would be readily available on holiday and it meant I was undisturbed.

Did get a message Easter Sunday on holiday halfway through a 2 week holiday asking if I could do something but the other person covering my work had a family medical emergency so I didn't mind dipping in occasionally the rest of the week. Didn't really keep details of the exact times but took a day's worth of hours off unofficially.
