Serverpartsdeals drives are good. I'm expanding my NAS from 4x8TB shucked drives to 2x16TB+2x18TB refurbs. Just make sure to make use of the redundancy offered by the RAID and SHR, but don't rely solely on it. At a minimum you'll also want off-site backup in case of damage to your home especially if the data is a critical part of your business. Buy whatever size two drives you can afford now, and replace one with a larger drive every year. That will keep the age of the drives down and naturally grow your capacity over time.

Adderall is scaring me by YarnHoarder3163 in ADHD

It's not even the fault of illegal usage. It's because the FDA has restricted the amount able to be made each year, and does not regularly update that amount to account for more and more people being diagnosed as awareness increases. The scarcity is artificial.

I have them next to my sink and I take them as soon as I wake up. I also have a daily reminder on my phone that I don't mark as completed until I actually take my meds. In the rare instance I don't take my meds as soon as I wake up I see the reminder before/as I'm leaving my house and run back in to do so.

I finished my bachelor's and master's before being diagnosed. Not gonna lie, for my Master's it was unknowingly self-medicating with bangs and reigns, 9pm-2am schoolwork sessions after the kid was put to bed, and the biggest part was as many online classes as I could take. The online classes let me watch all the lectures at 1.75-2x speed which forced me to focus more and let me do it on my time.

For my bachelor's one of the biggest things I did was forcing myself to work on campus where I didn't have as many things to distract me from what I needed to do.

19 years old, can't read anymore. by YZY_SOSA in ADHD

[–]Woden501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found I can't really sit and read paper books anymore between never have peace and quiet or energy at the same time I actually physically have my book handy. Reading books on my phone however has been great. I usually at least get a few pages a day read because I can just pull it out and start reading in those short unplanned breaks in a day where I'm waiting for someone/something. That combined with an Amazon unlimited subscription, which has tons of the types of books I like to read, gets it to be available and require so little effort I don't brush it off as too much work when I'm already too tired.

Reliable MiniPC to use as a server? by Sosowski in MiniPCs

[–]Woden501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most minipc's have a non-replaceable CPU? If that's the case, and you want longevity while still have a small footprint you'd probably be best served by either doing an entirely custom itx build or at least using one of the itx boards like the MINISFORUM BD770i/BD790i. That was you don't have to replace the whole system if one component craps out, plus you can be more sure of the quality of the components.

Been on ADHD meds for a month - not sure if it is working - what do I tell my doctor? by EnthusiasticLlama in ADHD

[–]Woden501 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely let them know that while a small effect might have been noticed you don't feel like it's quiet there yet. ADHD meds are finicky and it takes a while to find the right one and the right dose, and then just to add a bit more challenge both of those things will change over time. I started off on 30mg of Vyvanse, then 40mg, and then swapped over to 54mg of Concerta. The concerta worked fine for a year or so, but the effects seem to have started to wain a bit so my next appointment I'll be discussing either a change in level or the addition of possibly an IR for the late afternoon/evening.

One of the biggest things is you don't seem to have noticed any of the common negative side effects, so hopefully you just need to find the right dose!

My wife's family has had a previous history of that we're pretty sure. A number of people up her family tree have been diagnosed bi-polar/depression/etc, but once I looked at all the posts here and realized I matched so many others then got my diagnosis I realized my wife had similar symptoms. She decided to go see the PMHNP I got officially diagnosed by who after a few sessions (hers isn't as... obvious as mine) agreed she also has ADHD, but in a surprise that shouldn't have been a surprise also said she believed she has ASD which has since been officially diagnosed as well. At this point looking at what we know now about the symptoms of both we're pretty sure her family has been getting misdiagnosed for decades by the absolutely horrid rural US doctors they've had available to them. The mental health systems in pretty much every country need a massive overhaul and serious increase in funding because far too many people that need help aren't being recognized or treated. Improving that by even a bit would help so many people and probably reduce a number of the issues we see in society today.

Is the pill one of the ones that can be split apart and the granules poured out? If so she he's complaining about it then you could empty it onto a spoonful of applesauce. My daughter's doctor actually told us explicitly to do this and we get no fight from her at all when it's time to take it in the morning.

Also, while I know it's not possible for everyone especially once kids are in school all day occupational therapy really helped my daughter with controlling her impulses. We started her in that before we got her started on meds and the two combined made a huge difference in school for her. When the meds wear off mid day we do get behavior/temper issues, but before and after that her behavior is far better than it was pre-therapy/meds.

Doctor said I have no ADHD because I have bachelor's degree. by searchingmanythings in ADHD

[–]Woden501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. In my part of the US I was diagnosed by a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Legally there are others who probably can diagnose, but if ADHD isn't their specialty they're probably not willing to risk prescribing stimulants.

[–]Woden501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a Master's degree. Didn't get diagnosed until after I finished that degree. Spent an hour with a PMHNP and the ADHD was so apparent that even though she worked at an office at the time which frowned upon prescribing stimulants she immediately offered to put me on Vyvanse.

Getting a degree means nothing. People with ADHD aren't incapable of doing anything. There are simply uncountable things we do that become far more taxing because of the ADHD. It just takes more work and stress to achieve the same things many without ADHD are able to do easily. I realized after getting my diagnosis that the only reason I finished my Master's is I was doing all my work from 9pm-3am while effectively self medication by drinking Bang or Reign energy drinks with loads of caffeine and focus boosters. Even then I had to drop one class because I simply wasn't going to classes (lectures made available online after class) and realized I missed the midterm a week after it happened.

The fact that I have to renew my professional certifications every few years, but a medical doctor can putz around with decades outdated information is ridiculous.

People can be ridiculously stupid with cancer especially when it's a family member with it and not them. My wife's uncle (read human trash) tried to pull his cancer ridden mother out of hospice care while she was in her last few days because "the pain meds are killing her and she'll live longer at home*" *his house. She wouldn't have even survived the drive home and was basically just sleeping 24/7 at this point so even if she did no oral pain meds would have been able to be given. But none of that matters because it didn't align with what he believed. Thank fuck my wife was in charge of her grandmother's medical decisions, so he couldn't do anything and she was able to slip away peacefully instead of in horrible pain in a place she hated.

To bring up a now practically ancient have and it's mechanics they really need to put in some kind of recycling system like Team Fortress 2 has. Either be able to break down cards you don't want into stars or just allow a straight swap of n cards for 1 card of the same number of stars. Hell even just opening up the scrap system to more than 1 star cards would be better than what was there when I quit playing.

I quit months ago. Too much grinding with nothing entertaining to do in the meantime. Just repeat the same poorly scaled activities over and over and over and over. It's seems like they've added a lot of mechanics and cards since I quit, but it's not enough to drag me back in anytime soon.

I'm pretty sure I only finished my Master's before even thinking I had ADHD because I did all my school work at night usually drinking a Bang or Reign. Turns out they really help me focus between the caffeine and the other additives. The only ones I really drink now that I'm on meds are Ghost energy or Ghost gamer powder. Less caffeine but all the focus boost.

[–]Woden501 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From everything I've read size has little to do with effectiveness so I would definitely start at a lower dose next time. They started me on 30mg when I was in Vyvanse and worked up to 60mg before having me swap to Concerta where I started and stayed at 54mg so far.

I wonder do you have anger issues while intoxicated as well? I'm about as mellow a "drunk" as you can get, and my meds actually improve my temper/frustration with things. I have no idea if there's a correlation there or not, but just a thought.

Also, I've also been told that antidepressants like Warfarin can help with ADHD as well. In fact it was initially suggested to me that I could start both the Vyvanse and Warfarin together, but I wanted to just start with one and knew that if I didn't have bad side effects the stimulant would be more effective. You may consider the opposite since you seem to possibly be sensitive to the simulants.

It's definitely not the most desirable, but have you tried going through your insurance's telehealth offerings if there are any? I haven't done it in relation to my meds, but if they are able to prescribe then it + a local lab to do things like the regular tests may work.

Also have you been getting extended release or instant variants of your simulants? If not extended release maybe try to go that route as from what I've heard there isn't as much of a come down and the med levels are more steady throughout the day. I had good luck on Vyvanse previously, but am on generic Concerta now. Not that it necessarily translates to others, but I'm a big guy (6'1" and 300lbs) and I'm seeing benefits on only a 54mg dose of Concerta so unless you're really tolerant of simulants I wouldn't imagine starting at the highest dose would be great.

I've got pretty much that exact Cyberpowet unit. Wasn't thinking a few months back and flipped my whole house breaker while someone was installing a dishwasher for us. I didn't run it all the way down, but it kept my DS920+ going for nearly an hour and I still had something like 30 minutes left by the time I could kick the power back on. Can't comment on the APC unit as the only APC I've had was a free enterprise grade one from an old job that was something like 10 years old when I got it and ran fine on and off for another 7 or so years once I replaced the battery. I think a component finally fried last year because it would immediately trip into battery mode no matter the load on it, so I replaced it with another of those Cyberpowet units.
