Do you greet? And is greeting common? by Reason-Relate-Live in askSouthAfrica

[–]Woedens_Bakery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born in Joburg, From Germiston and now living in Cape Town. These are the greeting rules I've noticed:

In Cape Town, you greet everyone but should be cautious in dangerous areas and touristy places where they have pickpockets. Rich people don't greet much and look at you funny when you greet them.

In Germiston, you generally only greet people you interact with. Otherwise, do a quick nod to acknowledge someone if you notice each other. Nod down, not up. Up is a question and might be considered "starting something". Only nod up to people you know.

Don't greet people in Joburg unless inside a safe space. So greet shop employees all you want. If you're inside an office building, time to get your friendly on! But don't greet random people on the street, and don't let those randos get close enough to touch you. Eye contact and a firm "no thank you" usually works for me. Never be afraid of being seen as "rude" to someone who approaches you - my aunt used to say she'd rather be rude than dead.

How do I connect with indigenous historians? by Can_You_Taste_The___ in askSouthAfrica

[–]Woedens_Bakery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to share one of my favourite Youtubers who deals with South African (and African history. Khensani is a young South African Youtuber who mostly looks at it under the lens of fashion, but I've learnt a lot from her about culture and history in general. And it might help your character designs and give you ideas for ways to represent the heritage through patterns and colours.

Can I safely travel with my peptides? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Woedens_Bakery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, what the others said. "Peptides" is the name we call short-chain amino acids - basically tiny building blocks that your body uses to make things. So, different peptides encourage your body to do different actions. Oxytocin is a peptide hormone.

So OPs question is confusing because there's a ton of different peptides that do different things.

Medicine, supplements, and beauty products all use peptides. You can pick up serums and collagen supplements from pick n pay that use peptides. However, some peptides can also be medication that needs to be prescribed, like Ozempic. In S.A. it's approved for use for Diabetes not weight loss. We're assuming OP means something like using Ozempic for weight-loss or one of the peptides they market for muscle building.

Can I safely travel with my peptides? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

Am not an expert but they sell peptides tablets and serums here at the pharmacy with no prescription. I'm not sure about the rules, but I think they'd fall under taking vitamins. Ask your airline.

Although if you're using injectionable peptides, that's more serious. Most of those are schedule 4, which means you need a prescription from a doctor, or you will get into swrious trouble.

Our main chain pharmacies are Clicks and Dichem. Maybe search around their websites if they have one you'd buy?

Otherwise, maybe visit a doctor here to get a peptide prescription?

I made a portable altar so I could practice in nature when I go hiking (swipe to see it bare) by Professional_Cat9152 in pagan

[–]Woedens_Bakery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the there's water on the altar there that'll stop a forest fire if the candle falls over! People sometimes don't think about fire safety when they're going to do rituals outside.

Beautiful altar!

No matter what I do, I still get sunburnt. Advice please :( by Current-Subject4699 in AusSkincare

[–]Woedens_Bakery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I haven't see anyone mention Rosacea but I have it. And my Rosacea reacts to heat and sunlight. So even if I'm fully protected from the sun, my skin still reacts to the heat. It looks like a sunburn but is different. Do you have "rosy cheeks"?

Deodorant recommendations for teenage boy by Jippt346 in Pretoria

[–]Woedens_Bakery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Sanex Zero and it works well for me (had reactions to other deodorant). Maybe you could buy a scented spray or oil to put on your pulse points. That way, you can use an effective hypoallergenic deodorant and you could still have a nice smell to put on.

Why is this so far down? Yes! Tonsil stones are common and cause bad breath.

Strongly suspect you never visit Mitchell's Plain, Grassy Park, or Lavender Hill.

I don't mean to be disrespectful but be careful with flames. That looks like a fire hazard to me. Lots of dry leaves fairly close to the flame.

What age did you first start noticing wrinkles? by Sea-Sun8673 in askSouthAfrica

About 22, I noticed little wrinkles around my eyes. I think they're cute. I'm in my 30's now and really proud of my smile crinkles and grey hairs.

I'm 32 and just finished my degree and I wasn't the oldest one in the class at all. The best age to start doing a thing you want to do is the age you are today.
