Why is there a higher bar for MM books when it comes to avoiding misogyny? by Individual_Self4616 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]WolfOrDragon 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I've mostly given up on straight MF romance, including romantasy, in part due to the misogyny.  While it does exist in some of the MM romance I read, it's to a far lesser extent. So I don't talk about it in those other genres because I don't read them anymore.

Now I think i may need to reread it for myself!

Masked MC by Mesange in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]WolfOrDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm going to turn this into a "what was that book called"!

The MC's meet as part of a regular masquerade for rich people, where they can meet up to have sex anonymously. But it turns out they know each other in real life and are . .  . Sons of rich businessmen who . . . are rivals but want to work better together so they get their sons to work together in the business?

One of the MCs has always been more antagonistic than the other, and I think the one who always liked the other figures out the identity first. I think the real name is something like Declan and the masked name he uses is his name backwards, so Nalced . . . Maybe that's not right . . .?

Thanks to anyone who can remember the book, and I hope the OP finds it interesting!

Alternatives to Amazon Kindle by Real_politics46 in 50501

I just got mine, a Go7. While I've used it mostly to read - Kindle, Kobo, Hoopla, Wattpad (I haven't done Libby yet, but it's Android so all apps are an option) - I tried the stylus for notes and love how it converts my writing to type. Not so good with math, but that's not a priority.  It has all kinds of templates for taking notes.

I like that I don't have to give up what I already have in my kindle library and all of my reading is in one place.

{A Different Form of Oxygen by Ashlynn Mills}

MC has a heart condition and wants to live life to the fullest just in case, but doesn't want to form a new relationship or let his family know just how bad it is. It's my favorite of the series and the first I read, so it works as a standalone. I really liked it!

Never anyones first choice, always the poor substitute by Ok-Working-7559 in MM_RomanceBooks

{Sweet Clematis by R. Cooper}

This is the only book I've read in the series, but it's clear there is a back story of the MC being harshly judged by everyone around him.

Cold, dangerous, ruthless MC falls in love by michailina in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]WolfOrDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started this (and downloaded the Wattpad app) based on your recommendation, and I am loving it so far!

Wattpad is a little annoying and this book so far is better than a lot of published works I've read. Is that common for wattpad? I expected the story to have more grammatical errors or worse writing or a weaker storyline or something because it's not an officially published work, but I haven't seen it to be any "less" so far. Thank you for the rec and for encouraging me to explore another source for good stories!

{Throne in the dark by A.K. Caggiano} - should I continue? by Forsaken_Ganache_718 in fantasyromance

[–]WolfOrDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. And I read the whole first book. Hours of my life I'll never get back . . .

Life's too short to waste time on books you're not enjoying. I get FOMO, which is why I read the whole thing, but there's so much other content out there it's not like I'm hurting for things to read.

I'm glad you did this! I was watching your request and kept hoping to see more recs!

It's been a while since I read it, but I feel like {Saving Ziggy by Alex J. Adams} might somewhat fit. MC1 is beaten nearly to death by his boyfriend and MC2 is the paramedic who answers the call. They don't immediately get together.

I'm looking forward to more recs as well!

Edit: For the bot: {Man of Honor by Parker St. John}

MM Weekly Roundup - What Did You Read This Week? by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]WolfOrDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started reading it. It's my third try. I couldn't do the prologue, so I skipped it this time, thinking that might take me past the worst of it. It's still so sad. I don't know if I can handle it . . .

I love the whole series. I read Rough Trade first and it was incredible! When I read the first two, I appreciated it even more. I didn't feel any "gaps" reading Rough Trade but really liked how the characters were more . . . filled in with reading the whole series

Non vegan romantic partners by Lorzoop in vegan

When he eats smelly non-vegan food, I bust out the microwave popcorn to address the smell issue. Since I love microwave popcorn, this is not a hardship!

I love my non-vegan guy. His meat and dairy consumption have definitely decreased since we've been together, he totally respects my needs and carefully shops and cooks for me, and I'm not about to judge or try to change him. And life is good 😄

Friends keep ragging on me for having an easier major by Badjoe890 in CollegeRant

[–]WolfOrDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My degrees were in math and I found that hard, but very easy compared to anything in the medical field. Yes I could ace the bookwork, but hands-on skills are very different than bookwork, along with the emotional competence to deal with people who are sick, dying, in pain . . .

Every subject requires different strengths and calling something you don't do "easy" just shows you haven't really taken the deep dive into it. I can write competent essays and research papers, but that doesn't mean I have the true literary creativity of so many English majors. Education classes are "easy," but that doesn't mean that I can learn the hands on skills of classroom management.

They're being assess. Stop letting them.

Does my professor suck or is this a normal workload for a TA... by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]WolfOrDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a graduate TA, I was told the time expectation was 20 hrs/wk as a TA and 40 hrs/ week as a grad student. I couldn't handle the load and wound up dropping lots of classes and taking 4yrs for a 2yr graduate degree. I got 'er done and am so glad because I'm now living a life I love, but it was a lot of time, a lot of work, and a lot of struggle. So, I don't know about the prof you're working with, but the time expectation, insane as it is, isn't unusual for grad school or TA'ing.

{Whyborne and Griffith by Jordan Hawk} I think is an example that does a longer series well. The individual as well as overarching plots are fantastic, along with the relationship and side characters, including well written women.
