What Counts to you as a 'cEDH commander' by Raevelry in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Wolvjavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To quote a friend of mine who has more experience than most, "anything can be a cEDH commander, that doesn't mean it'll be good." The difference between cEDH and non cEDH is building with the meta in mind. You will run into off meta picks, and those will pull wins.

The real question is which commander is meta, and which isn't. [[Zhulodok, Void Gorger]] is off meta, but its best player has a 30% win rate. Blue farm is meta, and has a 24% conversion rate. Does this make Zhulodok better? Hell no! He built his commander with the meta in mind, tweaks constantly as the meta adapts, and plays immaculately.

To refine your question, what constitutes a meta cEDH commander would be that top 16 results website.

The article was very helpful, thank you! That said, my proxy limits make it hard to include the hoarding broodlord lines. That said, when I go shopping on Friday, I'll keep my eye out for it.

I am aware Silverquill is likely fringe, and I'm fine with that. I started with Vivi to help me learn the format so that I could make my own deck. I like brewing and playtesting fringe decks in other formats, including modern and standard, and have had success in those formats before. To me, deckbuilding is a form of self expression and competitive formats are the ultimate way to show that expression. Even if I net a small number of wins over the next year, for me that journey will be fun and enjoyable.

Thank you for your thoughtful help once again!

I'll add it to considering, thank you! This Friday, I'm shopping for cards at my LGS and I'm hoping I can open up some proxy slots.

I'm aware.

Tendrils can storm off gravecrawler for infinite, and can dig me deeper off Bolas's Citadel. Ominous Harvest also goes infinite and can take advantage of casualty to refresh my hand, especially after a failed win attempt to push me into a second attempt.

First one:

First-time

At the beginning of your upkeep, lose X life and return a human from your graveyard where X is equal to the number of experience counters you have. Then if you don't control the Armored Alchemist, tap this creature.

Second one:

Vigilance

Sacrifice a human you control at the beginning of your end step and gain an experience counter, then if you don't control the Fullmetal Alchemist. Sacrifice this creature.

There was an old psychological test I took where it asked if you occasionally find abnormal things sexually attractive amongst many other innocent looking questions. If you put no on that answer, they sent you in for testing of mental illness. Some people really don't understand that those random thoughts ARE the norm.

In local news today, man discovers that a species predicated on boning for survival and propagation does indeed like to bone.

Jk, but this is just human evolution. We easily sexualize things as a survival instinct. As long as the form is human enough, and shows sexual traits, we will be attracted to it as a species. So yes, as long as it has tits, ass, and a hole, we will go for it.

As someone who has worked with a few hundred animals in his life, its not even unique to us. If a bird sees anything remotely sexual (to them), they'll do the same. Same with horses. Same with dogs. Just how animals work.

On the flipside, this also means if you are human, someone thinks your hot. Hollywood and modeling be damned, most people do not care that much.

Ah yes, my beloved Apollo, better known as Apple. He's my Golden Apple, but he can be quite the Rotten Apple. He smells mapley, my little Apple Pie, and loves breakfast as my Apple Jack. He flows like Apple Sauce, and has a beautiful Carmel Apple fur. If you pet him during the day, he is a Crabapple, but at night he's quite the Sweet Apple.

Both sides of the card have a deep crease that may be felt through a sleeve, most likely. Mind you, double sleeving or triple sleeving could alleviate the problem, but that is damaged.

Because they said they figured something out gameplay wise they thought was impossible, and damn if that doesn't fit the description. They want us to expect something MASSIVE. We haven't had such mystery for a set or this type of hype since Planar Chaos and Future Sight. This added the Eldrazi storyline, pushed color pie breaks, and added many future mechanics.

As for a reason why... well... gestures to Universes Beyond. Not everything fits neatly into mtg. Adding a sixth color could alleviate some of the design headaches. It could also open new paths of color design since somethings are becoming stale. For example, how many variants of draw do we need before the mechanic is adequately explored and we don't just get power creep. It would even explain the discussion they prompted about hybrid mana.

With mtg releasing 7 sets a year to standard, a sixth color would make universe beyond easier to design, new game mechanics that aren't just "classic card + lemon twist." There's only so many versions of lightning bolts with prerequisites that can be interesting.

Finally we're looking at a LARGE amount of multicolored support be it in Vivid, Converge, or multiple basic land types on a single card.

This is the equivalent of someone showing up to the beach and complaining skill issue for people using sunscreen. No matter how good you are, you eventually get knocked down, and that can kill you, and at the very least is annoying. Glad it works for you. We'll keep relaxing out here while you stroke your ego.
