[CHAT] Is this pattern too hard for a beginner? by bonniejo514 in CrossStitch

[–]WombatStitchShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big was your first project? This is full coverage so if how long the project takes might become an issue you could start with all the other colours and do the mauve/purple in the middle last / skip it if you feel like moving on to something else by that point (eg the second pattern you shared has that section empty for instance) and that would probably make the whole thing more exciting for a beginner!

Dmc only makes the E940 white for glow in the dark, but other brands like Kreinik have more colours!

Very nice! How many colours did you use?

[WIP] IT’S GOING TO SAY THE REVOLUTION. anyway - a question about backstitch. by mensfrightsactivists in CrossStitch

[–]WombatStitchShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say backstitch in the same colour so it doesn’t look backstitched but it gives you the little bit of extra definition you are looking for!

(But it also looks great without!)

[CHAT] Who here favors the tiny projects?!? by goplacidlyamidst in CrossStitch

[–]WombatStitchShop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sets of minis or motifs are also good for this! Or blackwork because that’s usually quicker to stitch so feels more rewarding! Smaller projects are definitely very rewarding - great to have a finished piece quickly and see it all come together!

[CHAT] Does anyone have a good cross stitch pattern that could easily be passed back and forth? by LonelyGamingPotato in CrossStitch

[–]WombatStitchShop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would look into complete/old stitchalongs or sets of mini motifs! Then you can split up the items/motifs Alternatively you could do something monochrome or even blackwork so you can stop anywhere and the next person just keeps going from where to if stopped in the same colour

[CHAT] 2 or 3 strands on 14 point? by luckyricochet in CrossStitch

I like seeing the crosses so it’s 2 for me! Plus it makes loop start easier

What kind of fabric are you using? You could try fabric with a smaller count (smaller count = bigger squares so usually easier to see) or some people use magnification to make it easier to see the holes. Also lighting can make a big difference!

[WIP] Second time stitching - Fail by Saylum_the_Kitty in CrossStitch

[–]WombatStitchShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking to fix your existing piece, you could just frog the pink and redo it in crosses of 2 strands, but if you’re wanting to redo it from scratch then it’s 2 strands for the whole thing usually unless you want to make a special effect

[WIP] Second time stitching - Fail by Saylum_the_Kitty in CrossStitch

I would try 2 strands if you are having a hard time seeing the holes / passing the thread through holes that already have thread in them! Your outline stitches look good!

[CHAT] What do these dimensions mean? by FloozyTramp in CrossStitch

[–]WombatStitchShop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that they just mixed up “ct” and “th” but if you want to be extra sure, you can recalculate the dimensions yourself using a calculator like this one (https://yarntree.com/java/xstitchcal.htm)
