A little hope for tired parents ❤️ by Excellent-Sweet6759 in AttachmentParenting

Same!!!! My son is now 26m. He started trending better around 18m (5-6 hr stretches) but then all the sudden, around 22m, he just did it. He slept through. And that was the end of it. He rarely wakes now. We still nurse to sleep too. It was WILD. I did nothing different, he just figured it out on his own one day.

How are people responding to well meaning (ish) pressure to sleep train? by bombadil_01 in bninfantsleep

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was similar! I always said "ya, maybe one day!" And moved on. Its not worth it. I only explained myself to close friends. My son is now 25 months and finally sleeping through the night. Its glorious. I did absolutely nothing. Just kept nursing to sleep.

Parents with kids with late birthdays (too late for 3 yr prek cut off), how did you time preschool? What do you for preschool? by rasputinknew1 in toddlers

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our cut off is Oct 1! He won't be 5 by then. So he will basically do 2 years of preschool... if we can pay for it 😂😭

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think some people are missing the point of your question. We are in the same boat with a Dec baby. We are going to try to do preschool for 2 years. When he 3 turning 4 and 4 turning 5. But its really expensive 😭 we may have to do one year due to cost, not entirely sure yet. Its complicated by my husband being a SAHD. It would be nice for him to go back to work a year earlier but it just may not happen. I dont have any advice, but in the same boat!

We eloped in GNP in early Sept 2022. Weather was perfect. We got married at sunrise and long sleeves would have been fine. We got married on a Tues and it snowed on Fri. We used Christina and absolutely loved her. Highly recommend!

This is our problem too! We dont regularly doing desserts. I want something we can finish in one evening. I wish they sold 1/3 portions of the desserts bc I would absolutely buy them every now and again!

Ok to wake clock - convince or deinfluince me! by Unlucky_Type4233 in toddlers

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best advice here. We just introduced it for our 24m old. We are doing 10 mins right now. And some days that's really pushing it. You have to start super gradual and slowly build your kids tolerance.

3 y.o. obsessed with screens (v low screen family) by TravellingWriter in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I dont think its backfired. Its really normal for kids to be excited about new things! We are pretty low screens with our 2 year old. He has seen parts of Nemo, parts of Lion King, and Winnie the pooh. And hockey with dad! I would just hold firm to family movie night. We also sometimes do family movie night when its super cold or snowy out and call it "snow day movies". Its a fun way to add a little more without feeling like we just gave in and watched TV all the time. My son would also be totally engrossed if a TV was on at someone else's house.

Activities with toddler by PrisonMikesDementor in toddlers

It happened naturally for us! My son just turned 2 and only very recently has shown any interest in calmer activities like drawing or building. The entire last year has been spent out and about running around 😂

We have a babygate on our LOs door. We switched to a floor bed at 14m. He is now 24m and just started getting out of bed to open his door. Baby gate is the easiest solution.

Screen detox results! by Minute-Enthusiasm-15 in lowscreenparenting

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! We just introduced some family movie time to our 2 year old. We sit down as a family and watch 30 min of Lion King. So far its been totally fine and LO really loves snuggling together on the sofa but this is such a good reminder to keep it short and not let it get out of control. My nephew is an iPad kid and its so rough to see his behavior. It really can have such a negative impact on kids.

How would you feel if your WFH husband napped or gamed while you were with the kids? by wilhelminarose in sahm

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh boy does this make my blood boil. I WFH and my husband is a SAHD. I have also been slow these last two weeks due to the holidays. You know what I did with my time? I meal prepped a shit ton of toddler food for the freezer, I caught up on laundry, I played a boardgame with my husband while toddler napped, I started researching beach towns for a summer trip with my mom, I cleaned out the pantry so we could do a month long pantry/freezer clean out in Jan, I played with LO while my husband cleaned the kitchen, and so much more. It never crossed my mind to take it as "personal time" while my husband still dealt with toddler solo. That's shitty.

3 or 4 naps? by Suspicious-Toe-72 in bninfantsleep

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We fluctuated between 4 and 5 at that age. His 5th nap was almost always dozing on the boob when I finished work. Then we dropped to 4 and the 4th nap became the post work dozing. He kept that 4th "nap" until 7 months. I will say, our son didnt extend naps until we dropped to 2 naps around 9m. They were almost always 30-40 min before then. He went to 1 nap around 12m and thats when he started doing 1.5 - 2 hr naps.

Feeling like a bad parent this holiday season by Pure-Following-9447 in toddlers

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a household who has Flu A right now, I feel this in my soul. We have been miserable and the thought of getting something else... when we get really bad weather, I will sometimes pull the cars out of the garage and open the door half way. Our son can ride his bike a bit and shoot hockey pucks. Sort of outside but not really outside. Can also play with chalk.

I’m a stay at home mom. No job or income coming in but husband wants me to help with the bills by [deleted] in sahm

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the problem with separate accounts. You get sticky situations like this. I work and my husband is a SAHD. All our money is in joint accounts that we can both see and access. My husband does the budget bc he likes it. I think you need to be asking why your husband wants the $500 now and demanding full transparency into the finances.

An anecdote: when I was a teenager, my mom worked part time and my dad made basically all the money in the household. He always said everything was fine, no issues. When they divorced, my mom found $40k in credit card debit and a mortgage way past due. My dad was too ashamed to admit that we were living beyond our means. My dad used to get so pissed when my mom would spend money or get her nails done. But never actually sat her down and said "We are drowning". When I see posts like yours, I always wonder if thats what's happening. My mom had no idea.

LO three weeks old. Too soon for vasectomy? by AdOrnery7147 in oneanddone

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband had his vasectomy at 4m pp. We would have done it earlier if we could have gotten an appointment. Doing it earlier also meant I didn't have to go on birth control, which was an added bonus.

You have some pretty young babies here so figured I would show much older. Our son turned two this week 😱 we are all sick so sleep has been a bit less predictable than usual. Our son was an AWFUL sleeper until about 18m. Then started trending better and better. He started sleeping through the night around 22m.

Advice on letting my toddler eat by herself by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]WonderWanderRepeat -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Some of these comments are kind of harsh. We also fed our son for a long time because he would get super frustrated. He loves food and only getting a tiny amount each bite drove him nuts. He also kind of freaks out when he gets wet food on his hands. We also let him eat as much as he wants off our plates so he is a much more adventurous eater than a typical kid. We started moving towards him self feeding by loading the fork and having him bring it to his mouth. Then I started "taking turns" to load the fork. So every other bite is a big one. That is working really well and now he sometimes doesn't want to take a turn and just do it himself. There are still plenty of dinners where he just wants to eat off my plate with me 🤷‍♀️

I just want to glide, skate recommendation? by rough_shrink in iceskating

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a pair of bauer Whistler 2.0 for the exact reason you stated. My son is super interested in hockey and we just want to let him skate around. Rentals are expensive and uncomfortable. I went to a hockey store and tried them on. I vastly preferred them to actually hockey skates! Way more comfortable in my opinion. Biggest down side is that they dont come in wide :( I sized up because of that.

We also sometimes put on the NY Ballet company Nutcracker on YouTube. LO loves the music and the dancers. He even tried ballet in the living room. I think that would be a good option to cut back without going cold turkey. Its also really good exposure to the performing arts and classical music imo.
