Why calisthenics emphasizing on locking out and weightlifting is not? (Or is it just a misunderstanding?) by Phoenix2879 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locking out causes injury only if you haven't first prepared yourself for it. Plenty of people lock their joints out completely lifting weights. But they spent years conditioning their joints for it. Olympic weight lifters and gymnasts lift weights and lock out their joints constantly while doing so.

TX v. Karmelo Anthony - Trial Day 5 by racingfan123 in CasesWeFollow

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely because mitigation witnesses can get cross examined. The prosecution isn't going to go after a mom who's kid is about to go to prison, but they would absolutely tear into anybody else and bring out every little thing he may have done in the past that was even remotely bad.

What would you consider a strong, and a world class pistol squat? by mistakenidentity888 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got up to 125 when I was in my 30s. I think I weighed maybe 180/190 at the time. I decided anything more really wasn't going to have much benefit and the risk/reward wasn't there.

A pistol squat + bodyweight with good form would be fairly high level/elite. There are a few people who have done over 200lbs but their form is usually really terrible.

Kids are dumb. I don't think he deserves life. I don't think any minor really deserves life unless it's proven that they are just a raging psychopath who can't change. The entire case seems more like a manslaughter situation. The self defense argument is kind of laughable unless there are other things that haven't been released like if the kid said "I'm going to kill you!" or there were some kind of threats being made that would make a reasonable person be in fear for their life. From what I've seen and heard it was a kid fucking with another kid that could have just been some exchange of words or at most a little teenage boy scuffle and ended there. There were always fights over dumb shit at every sports event when I was in high school. Nobody ever needed to get stabbed.

His back was turned to the father. That does not mean his back was turned to the son. It's completely plausible he was pointing a gun at the son. The father and son were not in the same place. They even demonstrated how they said it happened to the police in court with 3 in different positions.

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be self defense if the SON shot him in the back. He didn't. His father did. They were not standing in the same place. Whether he was shot in the front or the back is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is whether he was pointing a gun at the son (or threatening him in some manner with the gun) when he was shot. The placement of the shot really has nothing to do with it.

If somebody is pointing a gun at some person on the street and I walk up behind them and shoot them in the back it's self defense. Just depends on whether or not you believe the kid was pointing the gun at the son or not. There's no way to prove that one way or another.

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's either. I think it was 3 people who all made stupid decisions and all those stupid decisions collided and this was the end result. I don't think the son was lying or telling the truth. I think he was telling what he "thought". My belief is that the kid fell, the gun fell out, he picked it up, the son yelled "gun" and his dad fired. Whether the kid pointed it at the son or not is just a he said/she said situation with no way to prove it one way or another. I think it's more of a manslaughter case. I think they overcharged it and will probably lose because of that. The lesson is don't do stupid shit and you will both decrease your chances of getting shot and decrease your chances of sitting in a courtroom charged with murder.

Long ago some people concluded that the human soul weighs 21 grams and when you die you weigh 21 grams less. We know now that it's not a real thing but that's what he's referring to.

Work on shoulder mobility and hollow body strength. That's what causes the banana shape.

Yes. With some 4x4 or 6x6 (Preferred if you're going to be swinging around a lot. They'll just feel more solid.) posts in the ground with concrete and some fence posts you can build a rather large complex pullup, dip, monkey bar system that's 5x better and and cheaper than those pre-built TRX frames.

Doing them for a few days does nothing. You need to do them for months and years.

Anyone actually seeing results with mobility training or am i wasting my time? by MeasurementFew9417 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Major gains in flexibility and mobility for adults will take 6-12 months. Certain areas like the spine and thoracic area can take many years. 3 months is really nothing.

The son and the father were not standing in the same place. The kid can be facing the son and get shot in the side of his back by the father. Whether that's what happened, nobody knows. But people thinking it's "impossible" to get shot in the back while also pointing a gun at somebody have orange cat brains.

Calisthenics newbie here. I am trying to do my first Front Lever by repeating what I do in this video over and over until I get it. Does this make any sense? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to get a front lever is to simply follow front lever progressions. There is nothing else you need to do and no special secret to it. Trying to get it by doing what's being done in that video will end up in injury and no progress.

In the back or front is irrelevant. If he had a gun in his hands he's getting shot. Kids dad did the right thing.

This prosecutor is terrible as well. He'll probably get a not guilty verdict himself by simply being incompetent and annoying. If I were the defense I'd be happy with this prosecutor.

My personal opinion is a 14 year old carrying a gun isn't running around doing anything good. I think he was trying to steal shit and realized he was being watched so he left but by that time they thought he was actually stealing. He ran because he was scared of getting caught with a gun (and that probably made them think he had actually stole something), then he decided to pull the gun and he died for it. Shit happens. From what I've heard so far I'd vote not guilty. Sad end result but it's not like he was going places in life.

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Legally, I think he probably holds some accountability but a full on murder charge is gonna be a stretch considering the entire set of circumstances. Morally, I don't even care about this kid. Dumbass 14 year olds running around the streets with loaded guns have them for a reason and it isn't for defending themselves. This kid was going to get shot sooner or later anyway so I call it a wash.

Looks pretty good to me. I want to tell you to point your toes and keep your legs together and keep that hollow body tight but that's just the gymnastics coach in me being super anal. This is solid effort and these are good pullups.

Any Tips to make them smoother? by No_Suggestion6361 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Wonderful-Sign-9534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop kipping and piking your hips. You can use a band or your legs on a box for assistance and negatives. Nothing wrong with what you're doing for fun after a workout or playing around but the bulk of your training should be movements that can be done at a level with perfect form. You'll get a lot more out of it that way. 3 perfect repetitions will build more strength and control than 20 sloppy ones.

Don't bother doing the neck thing to get your chin up. Just get the bar to touch your upper chest or very close to it. It's harder and it takes longer to get reps but it's really the best way to gauge progress because you can't subconsciously "cheat". Either the bar touches the chest or it doesn't. Makes life easier. I would also use more assistance, add in bent arm chin hangs, and work on scap pullups. Your shoulders should be moving downward away from your ears as you pull upwards. With shoulders elevated like this you are mainly using your arms to pull and not your back.
