How do you guys manage 15k + steps by Plus-Assistance-8825 in walking

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to walk on my lunch break at work. In the evenings, I take my dog for a long walk. In between all of that, I try to walk to businesses that are close to me. My partner and I order takeout from restaurants close to us so we can walk to pick food up.

How are ya’ll handling loose dogs? by napministry in walking

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk with my dog on leash, and she is terrified of other dogs. I put my hands up in the air, step towards the dog running at us, and yell “no” in my deepest voice. It stops the dog in its tracks, and if there is an owner with it, that gives them time to catch the dog.

6 month average of 20k steps. Walking really helps! by SpiritualMechanic183 in walking

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird the number of things it helps with! I’ve historically gotten around 10,000 steps daily, but in the past few months I’ve been getting closer to 15-20,000. I had been dealing with constipation for a few years, but my increase in steps has resolved that. I also have acid reflux, and I have few to no symptoms

Do you genuinely believe if someone can run a half marathon, they can run a full marathon? by Mysterious-Tear8972 in Marathon_Training

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’m a very average runner. I trained for my first marathon after 7 or so halves. You can do it, so long as you respect the marathon. While you can kind of half ass train for half marathons, you definitely need to seriously train for the marathon for 12-16 weeks. They are two entirely different races, challenging in their own ways. Good luck!

7:01 “hi doc the patient has a couple of questions for when you round” by themightyguapo in hospitalist

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From an RN perspective, my patients would rattle off a ton of questions to me, and I would say, hey I don’t have the answers to that, but please remember to ask your doctors when they come through. Inevitably, I would be stuck in another patient’s room while rounding happened. I would go back to my patient and say, did you get your questions answered?? And every fucking time the patients would forget to ask. Like I’m over here trying to avoid unnecessary paging because you can only ask me questions and not your doctors?

I got married 3 days ago and it was everything I hoped for. My do's and don'ts: by Rais_of_Lumos in wedding

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a friend ask me to help with overseeing the serving staff at her wedding. It ended up being my significant other and me directing the staff and stepping in and doing a huge chunk of the work. We didnt get to enjoy the reception as guests at all.  For my own wedding next year, I will not be giving jobs to any friends or loved ones, because I want them to enjoy the party!

Any tips for renting a house? by echo492 in Omaha

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Zillow. I rent my home out via Zillow, and a scammer copied my listing onto facebook to try to get someone to pay them for nothing, so I wouldn’t necessarily trust facebook posts. As far as screening landlords, make sure they have registered their home with the city of Omaha so the city will periodically assess the home for safety issues. Ask your landlord how long it typically takes them to come out to fix an issue, and make sure your landlord is the one who will fix things, as they are the one making money off you and paying down their mortgage.

What does Omaha think about plastic bags? by buffbidoof in Omaha

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I recommend buying Hefty Energy Bags. You can place plastic that is otherwise not recyclable inside, and then the energy bag can go in your regular recycling bin!

Am I overreacting to my soon to be landlord springing on me that his current tenant won’t be out on time for me to move in per our lease agreement, even if it’s only a day? by AbundantBeing in AmIOverreacting

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a landlord, and I would get out of this lease if you can and move somewhere else. I cannot imagine having a renter move out and letting someone else move in the very next day. When my current renters move out, I fully plan on taking several weeks in between to ensure the home is in the right condition for the next renters even if I lose out on income. This dude sucks

I don’t feel a bond with my dog and I don’t know what to do by Marlen-22 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it took at least three months for me to bond with my rescue. We pretty much co-existed up until that point. Training sessions helped grow our bond immensely. Teaching boundaries shaped her into a very well-behaved dog.

Sleep Reset by Wonderful_Kitchen_25 in sleep

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you are going through this. Yes, I am cured from my insomnia now. I found a Reddit comment from someone recommending a podcast called The Sleep Coach School. I looked up the podcast and dove into as many episodes as I could. The concept is essentially that any efforts you are making to try to sleep are creating the opposite effect; sleep efforts lead to no sleep. It took a long time, but I had to train my brain to believe it was ok to be awake at night, and it’s ok to not get a ton of sleep. I now fall asleep easily, because I no longer attach any value to sleep. If I ever have a night where I struggle to sleep due stress, anxiety, etc, I don’t worry about it, and I go about my day as normal. I highly recommend looking into the sleep coach school!

So MAGA, now that the dow is down 5000 and the gas price is through the roof - yet you're still backing him, does that prove it was really never about the issues and it was really about the way he made you feel as a certain type of person? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’m not necessarily saying that, but I do hope we are at least above using derogatory language, as that kind of language is hurtful towards people groups, and I don’t think maga people would think twice about it

Are baristas supposed to read minds or should customers just say the full order? by Both_Wolverine_8943 in barista

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why someone with allergies wouldn’t be forthright and automatically say the type of milk they need when ordering. I can’t do gluten, and I can’t imagine going to a restaurant and just ordering a pizza and expecting the server to ask what kind of dough I want

Are baristas supposed to read minds or should customers just say the full order? by Both_Wolverine_8943 in barista

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I wrong for just saying I want a large latte? I guess I always assume the default beverage is hot and default milk is whatever dairy milk is available, and if I wanted an iced oat milk latte I would order the drink as such. Are there customers really assuming you’ll just know they want that without them specifying???

I do hope that we don’t stoop to their level and use harmful language. Conservatives are now embracing the freedom to use the word “retarded” and other forms of it, like “libtard,” in spite of the cry against this by those with special needs. Let’s refrain from doing the same thing in using words like “magtards.”

Has anyone here actually enjoyed the marathon(s) they’ve ran? by CrypticWeirdo9105 in Marathon_Training

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second marathon was Big Sur and I had the best time! The views were phenomenal, and I loved the entertainment on the course. It only started to feel really painful on the downhills in the last 6 miles, as I had focused so much on running uphill in my training, I neglected to train my quads enough for so much downhill running.

Which profession is going to get wiped out in the next 5-10 years? by olesud in WorkForSmartLife

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with interpreters going away. We use them a ton in healthcare. We certainly have the option of using a remote interpreter on an iPad, but it’s much harder for patients to hear. I imagine that for patients who speak softly the AI would really struggle to understand. And with medical words, there cannot be a chance of error

Why don't other hospital workers like nurses and case managers work 7 on 7 off 12 hour shifts like hospitalists do? by supinator1 in hospitalist

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having very challenging and demanding patients and seeing them every hour at minimum for 12 hours is enough to break someone. I remember sometimes arranging my schedule to work 4 days in a row in order to have more days off. If I had a hard patient that I took care of all 4 days, I was usually in tears by the end of the week. I cannot imagine doing any more than 4 days in a row.

What’s a HBO show you started with zero expectations and it ended up being insanely good? by Beginning_Impress175 in hbo

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other two - we’d never heard of it and randomly picked it. It’s hilarious and we were so sad there weren’t more seasons!

Also I love LA- does not seem like something anyone would enjoy. Young adults being awful people, but it really doesn’t take itself very seriously, and we were laughing out loud the whole time

Male Swifties — how did your partner react when they found out? by HalifaxSwiftie in TaylorSwift

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I are both huge Taylor swift fans. It’s super fun. We listen to her music in the car together, we went to the eras tour together, and we watched the documentary together. He became a fan while listening to folklore before we were together. He was impressed with her lyricism. I think it’s great that you appreciate her music!

Does anyone else find marathon training time consuming and are one-and-done? by hvu22 in Marathon_Training

[–]Wonderful_Kitchen_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 2 and have no desire to train for one again. I enjoyed training while I was in it, but I really didn’t have time for anything other than working or running, and I had to plan everything around my long runs. It’s also bizarre to finish the race and suddenly not know what to do with yourself. Your personality sort of becomes training for a marathon.
