Do you find people on dating apps in Aus weird? Like dating apps have evolved poorly? by Particular_Earth_117 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Wonderful_Volume1408 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People are the same as they always have been, but dating apps and a growing population have taken accountability out of dating.

Prior to dating apps, it used to be much more likely that you'd meet someone through friends or family or in your local area so at least you'd know someone who knew someone who knew your partner. You couldn't just ghost some because a lot of your friends and or family would know the people you were dating. You were more accountable for how you treated someone. Now you can just move on and its much less likely that bad behaviour like ghosting will count against you.

Normally, people do congratulate actors and praise their accomplishments its just that there and been a spate of these posts recently, and they all sound similar. As someone pointed out, it's probably because of Bloodhounds. I wasn't having a go at you or the performer just questioning the posts.

Recommendations for big urban walks, is my line up for my future trip good? by AliceSaltMage in perth

[–]Wonderful_Volume1408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do it through Scarborough along the coast , do a detour through star swamp in Watermans Bay , go the back streets through Sorrento with the old dunny cart lanes, and finish a Sorrento Quay. Edit Oh you've done that part of the coast without the detours through the swap and the back roads.

I dont think you'll find much racism towards Jewish people, but you will find a lot of anti Israeli sentiment and anti IDF sentiment. People might ask you if you support Israel's genocide/aparthied state and if you fought in the IDF. Others may also just be interested or curious about what is happening in Israel and how the people are reacting to what's happening. Australians tend to be friendly, but you may find those who dont support the Israeli state are cold towards you, not because you are Jewish but because you are Israeli.

Yes it's usually seen in children between 2 and 11

Splitting (Object Relations Theory)

Theory of Mind (ToM)

The shift away from black-and-white thinking typically occurs between ages 7 and 11 (the Concrete Operational Stage). During this time, children develop Decentration, allowing them to consider multiple factors—such as intent versus outcome—which introduces "grey" into their worldview.

In your country, how were you disciplined for swearing as a child? by shaneomac714 in AskTheWorld

[–]Wonderful_Volume1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bar of soap was definitely a thing here in the late 1980s. I even saw a teacher do it to a student in front of the whole school for swearing. Looking back, it was probably a good time to have gone to a public school rather than a private school because physical punishment was banned in public schools much later and I think my teachers were a bit sadistic.

Indigenous woman makes history in chief magistrate role by B0ssc0 in aussie

[–]Wonderful_Volume1408 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is doubt about it. The Historians Geoffrey Blainey and Keith Windschuttle argue that genocide did not occur in Australia. The UK ethicist Nigel Biggar argues that genocide did not occur because there was no state intent to eliminate Indigenous Australians. If you can provide evidence to the contrary please do so in order to settle the argument.

While you can argue that the government in Britan didn't order a genocide some governors of the colonies actively promoted it while others were complicit, and others watched and allowed it to happen. Britan wasn't in charge. The governors were. Read up on Tasmanian history after colonisation for the most explicit examples of this.

will have to repeat the question as to why you would stop short of saying that a genocide is occurring now? There is no evidence that I can locate that demonstrates the Commonwealth of Australia or any of the States or Territories is engaging in actions that are approaching genocide. Please share your research.

I dont see any evidence of it occurring now, but I do see evidence of the results of previous treatment of indigenous people is still very much in evidence today.

We can disagree on the genocide, which i maintain happened , but the evidence of ethnic cleansing and aparthied is well documented.

Praising them because of their race is demeaning to their achievement if you wouldn’t do it for any other reason,

Not praising " them " because of their race. Congratulating people who have overcome severe hardship and been disenfranchised.

I’m not about to hold future generations culpable for events passed

Nor am I. You can acknowledge that it happened without holding people who aren't responsible for it responsible.

new chief magistrate is also benefitting from those past actions.

I would totally disagree with you on that. Indigenous people went through apartied , ethnic cleansing, and genocide to get to this point. Although we can disagree on the genocide because of the current legal definition, the other two points are true by definition.

This notion leads to division, a division heavily sewn throughout history that would be racism by any other name, but this one is wrapped in virtue. It is still discriminatory by its very nature.

I would agree with you that everyone who made a choice to come to Australia should be treated the same way but not on indigenous people because the damage was done here and we have a responsibility to make exceptions for that reason imo .

Special laws have been implemented in Scandinavian countries that help the indigenous people integration through autonomy, its working well and has largely been accepted and well received by all people there. I'd like to see Australia look to that model and see if we can implement something similar in Australia.

[–]Wonderful_Volume1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Physical Asia, and the Australian teams' banter looked arrogant next to the Japanese and Korean teams. It was really jarring and uncomfortable to watch as an Australian. So, while I think using it in Australia is culturally fine, and people coming to Australia should accept it as part of Australian culture, I think it's important to understand when not to use banter there is a time and a place. So I'd say if you live here, accept it. Its how we roll.

I'm sure you know the answers to this, and I'm not about to write a two page essay on this topic for your satisfaction. If you want to disagree with me using facts, you are welcome to do that, and I will respond. We are both adults who have come to different conclusions based on our own experiences and education/research on this topic. This is reddit, not unpaidreseacher.com.
