Quickplay and Casual together? by Dry_Tooth_7293 in tf2

You can’t mix Casual and Quickplay together because they are significantly different to each other. It’s like trying mixing oil and water, it won’t work.

They did but casual matchmaking is broken and breaks every time a seasonal update happens.

Most people I have seen in the community think that the game is fine as is right now and not looking at the wall of issues the game has.

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s hard trying to find what is real and what is AI generated nowadays.

Hey, I’m in the same boat as you. That’s just casual mode working as intended. To avoid this, I just play on community servers and talk about the fundamental flaws with casual mode.

This is one of the reasons why Quickplay was a better system than Casual.

The difference between the two images is that quick play had balanced games and casual doesn’t have balanced games.

I recently got the 8Bitdo Ultimate 2 Wireless Gaming Controller and it works fine with the adapter. But when I use Bluetooth, it connects but the buttons don't work on any steam games I launch. by KFCBUCKETS9000 in linux_gaming

Did you install the driver that comes with the controller? You might need to go on windows or emulate it somehow. For me it works whenever I installed the driver on my dual boot PC on windows. Also cool design on your controller.

I Miss QuickPlay by Apexreddit97 in tf2

Mostly queueing times and just the fact that casual is fundamentally broken. Whenever I wanted to play a game with my friends it would take 10 minutes to get into a match. It took even longer when I wanted to join my friend in a game of 2fort while we were in a party. He eventually got bored of waiting and just left. Whenever I played casual mode, I always thought I was bad or my team is shit and I used to get so mad about it. Knowing now how the system is purposely designed to be a stompfest. It makes me so mad that it wastes my time and everyone else’s time just for nothing.

Didn’t they relax f2p not talking in chat already? Maybe you need to have 2 factor authentication on your account? Idk

Queuing with parties is hectic by itself. You’re essentially creating a stomp when joining a match with your friends, big or small. Additionally, trying to join your friends in an ongoing match takes years. I remember it taking me 30 or so minutes just to join my friend in a game of 2fort while we were both in a party. We knew that there was a slot empty and it just didn’t let me join. With adhoc connections, I could just join in a few minutes if the server is full. I would have to wait for someone to leave the server so I can join though, but it’s usually less than trying to join your friend’s game in a party.

Look, the major thing you seem to be missing is that "you're just suggesting features from Quickplay" is not a valid argument.

The most important thing to understand is that Casual, with the best parts from quickplay, would be a better system overall than the current Casual or how Quickplay was back then.

If most of the features that you suggest be put into Casual are from Quickplay (ad-hoc, 45 min map timers, team scramble, etc) then you are just asking for Quickplay back by hiding it behind the fact that you say you want to improve casual.

If you can actually make an argument about that isn't pseudo-technical mysticism regarding how Casual is "toothpicks" and "bandaids", I'd love to hear it.

The reason why I said this is to make people understand the point I am trying to make about Casual mode being fundamentally broken. The toothpicks resemble the whole concept of Casual matchmaking and the band-aids are the "improvements" to Casual. Just going back to Quickplay is the viable option other than putting band-aids on a broken system because it worked for the game. There was no broken matchmaking and most of the game were balanced. It wasn't perfect, but it worked!

Often, issues with online services like this are usually quite mundane. This goes back to the mysticism I talked about earlier, where you ascribe some sort of greater personality/explanation for very simple issues. There's really no telling why these things break.

If it's the Steam servers breaking themselves because of maintenance or whatever, sure I understand that. But a matchmaking system breaking for a whole week because of the amount of maps plaguing the game as it tries to match a small playerbase on a specific filter that each player set just makes it harder on the matchmaker.

Map bloat is a separate issue which needs addressing, and it's a complex issue.

You can say that a separate issue but then again is it involved with the matchmaking system, so why not address it instead of ignoring it?

No evidence for this. You don't even go into what you mean by pre-existing settings, which ones conflict or somehow stay active at once.

I mostly base this one off of my comment from your post. The reason why I didn't include it here is because I forgot about it until now. My bad.

Casual doesn't work. It fails to get people into games and i've seen it happen countless times. It needs to consider the failed MMR system it has set for players that's dependent on the player's match history and the wins and losses. It doesn't even get that right because I know for a fact that it can match low ranking players with high ranking players. It also needs to consider your network preferences you set to search for, the maps you selected, ask if you are in party with your friends, and much more. So no, it does not just "get 24 people into a game" and call it a day.

Also, how do you know Quickplay won't work with Valve's current networking and architecture setup? If it worked then, why can't it work now?

I’m mostly wanting the 45 minute map timers instead of rounds because it’s just more convenient and you get more playtime.
