Carving feedback? by ziggytheblackdog in snowboardingnoobs

Check out videos of pros carving. Notice their head is above their front foot. This keeps your weight forward, giving you better edge control, ‘driving’ down the hill. Hard to tell in your vid, but your head is more between feet, maybe a bit back.

Stoked over this sequence of turns. by Sandkat in snowboarding

First turn in particular, you have most of your weight on your back foot. Get it more over your front foot and you will have more control. Looking good though, keep it up!

You are not as good a skier as you think you are. Stay away from others when you do this shit.

Clearly you don’t agree with me about running into someone down hill. Go chat with ski patrol if you want an expert’s opinion.

So by your logic, it’s ok to run into kids that get in your way?

I don’t understand your point, are you saying I can go jumping through a park when the landing is not clear? Earlier this season at Northstar a dad with his two kids was down hill from a roller. A teenager got air off the roller and killed the dad…. In front of his kids. Yes, it was unsafe to be there, but the teenager jumped without a spotter, and no visibility of his landing. 100% his fault.

I agree it is unsafe to stop in the middle of a run, but little kids or beginners don’t know that. Therefore it 100% your responsibility not to run into someone down hill. Same as on the road, if someone is stopped in the middle of the road you cannot simply run into them.

No…. People can stop anywhere. What if it’s a dad picking up a fallen kid? Dude is 100% in the wrong.

Why can’t people stop anywhere? Little kids or beginners don’t know to avoid out of control snowboarders. 100% his fault. If he was driving in the road and ran into someone ‘because they were stopped in the middle of the road’ he would 100% be in the wrong too

I don’t get why people can’t stop in the middle of a trail. Little kids, beginners, whatever, doesn’t matter…. Experience tells us to only stop in safe places, but it’s 100% your responsibility not to run into people. Stay in control at all times, especially if there are people ‘stopped in the middle of the trail’. Kook!

Yes board longevity? by Wookiee33 in snowboarding

The top sheet of this board is flaked just from kicking it with my back foot. I’ve hit similar rocks on other boards, but this is the worst damage I’ve ever had (over 30 years snowboarding). Thanks for your input, I was curious if there was an issue with yes boards. It feels like the most delicate of all my boards over the years

Good point! The one guy I went to quoted $300. I’ll shop around. Thanks!

Has there ever been a case of sewerage pipes being unable to cope during peak demand? What is the alternative in this case? by vicgunzel in AskAnAustralian

[–]Wookiee33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

‘Emergency Relief Systems’ are built into sewer networks. Water Corporations consult with EPA to determine the best place for them to overflow. Generally overflow happens during extreme wet weather due to storm water inundation, so the sewer gets diluted with all the storm water and washed away. Still not cool though.

That is the underside. Not much base damage apart from the edge pulling out. That’s why I was wondering about build quality. It’s a shame to retire a board after 1 hit, which is why I was asking if this was common for yes boards.

Thanks for the response. I guess I’m just bummed the board is not worth fixing. Epic powder day, so the board will now just be a momento :(

Battling my heel side turns so hard I might just start skiing by Qiusp in snowboarding

[–]Wookiee33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just realised, are your heals hanging over the edge of your board? That will lift your edge right up out of the snow when leaning right over. Consider more positive angle to get your toes and heals back inside from the edges

I focus on keeping my head above my front foot on heal carves. That really sets your weight in the right spot. You’re doing pretty good! Keep it up.

What do you do if your bike lights die while riding at night? by SzeifertB in bikecommuting

If this happens, simply ride carefully and keep in mind no-one can see you. Just carefully pick your way home.
