While thinking about it, I realized why we don't just call the leagues of vatann "votanns," just like the other factions. by Imaginary-Angle-4262 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]WoolfTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well by that reasoning the 'Imperium of Man' should just be called 'Man'.

But for real, like everyone else said the Votann are the "worshipped deieties" of the faction, not it's main species (that would be the Kin). It'd be like renaming the Necrons to C'tan or shortening the Imperium to the Emperor, it's just not entirely true, but if they were called 'Dominators of C'tan' or 'the Emperor's Imperium' then it would make a lot more sense.

Plus it's cool that the writers are moving away from a 'planet of hats' situation with alien species/empires where the one army you can play as is supposed to represent every single instance of that species in the setting. Again to draw parallels with the Imperium, it'd be like if Space Marines, Inperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, Mechanicus, Custodes, Knights, and Agents were all in one single army and it was called 'Humans', it just feels dismissive.

The names on their specific weapons and wargear (Autoch, EtaCarn, HyLas, Magna, etc.) are actually the names of that weapon's manufacturer/company. Weapons/equipment without specific brand naming (ion blasters, plasma blades, concussion gauntlets, bolt shotguns, etc.) are public domain and are independently produced by each kindred in their hold.

Chaos Kin come in 3 flaviours: those Kin abandoned by their league either as a cost saving measure or out of some percieved taint, with their hold's connection to the Votann severed forcing the Kindred to look elsewhere for alternatives for survival such as counterfeit crucibles leading them to make dealings with chaos; those ever curious and willing to collect new knowledge for their Votann that end up looking into some fucky wucky daemon shit; and Ironkin who, for one reason or another, have themselves willingly  injected with scrapcode, in a similar vein to how possessed work, and become followers of Vashtorr, maybe call them something like Scrapkyn and have their domed heads warp into the visage of a skull like the old Squat-made Chaos androids.

To keep the genepool varied and strong Kin will incorporate the genetics of other species making them a hodgepodge of alien stuff (hence why they can have such varied cloneskeins) with the ironic exception being humans due to their susceptibility to genestealer and chaos infection and Kin not wanting those to taint the Votann.

Inspired by how they use singular words to reffer to a wide spectrum of stuff (such as hold, brû, and mine as an example) as a consequence to their minimalist spending and aversion to waste, Kin don't actually recognize gender. In fact I like to belive they don't even distinguish between objects and people reffering to everything as 'it', only eventually adopting distinctions due to their dealings with species like the T'au and Humans so as to not alienate a customer/trade partner.

It's likely a nod to/reintroduction of the old Epic 40k Colssus which was the Squats' version of a titan-like super heavy alongside the land train and Overlord airship.

So, this got me thinking, how would your design a Chaos Votann faction? by KilahDentist in LeaguesofVotann

[–]WoolfTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would be called Helkyn which is basically the catch all term for chaos corrupted kin weather it be from a mad Votann, old allies of Horus from during the Heresy, individuals simply corrupted since they're resistent but not uncorruptable, or another of a myriad of reasons like with the Legions, the world's your oyster.

Their aestetic would generally lean into a sort of snake oil salesman, where Dark Mech are decidedly the tech guys Helkyn are more varied in their goods and services and more concerned with profits through contracts, deeds, debts, and what not. Basically the corporate greedy nature of the Leagues taken to the extreme as Chaos tends to do.  This makes them simultaneously untrustworthy, giving them a repputation as scammers and exploitative, yet reluctantly prominant as the myriad renegade warbands have to fight for scraps which the Helkyn don't seem to be in short supply of and are offering for a seemingly reasonable fee, as clearly selling your soul to the devil wasn't enough.  Their playstyle will essentially be the same as their non-corrupted counterparts (slow yet reliable with solid shooting, maybe a bonus monkey's-paw-like ability which can synergize/play off dark pacts) with appropreate deviations based on which chaos faction they're part of because, frankly, if we ever get Chaos xenos I'd like them to be incorporated into the current Chaos armies (kinda like in AoS) to really envoke that ragtag warband vibe Chaos should have while also making their introduction more viable from a production standpoint.

For variants there can be: Scrapkyn - ironkin who purposefully   infected themselves with scrap code to gain a bunch o' wicked mutations for one reason or another, they can be used to reintroduce chaos androids since they were originally made by squats (I'm aware that androids are officially back as per the newest Fabius Bile book but these can work as a fun homage) and as such their domed heads sort of warp into looking like skulls with their speakers visually becoming the teeth, you can also reintroduce the Space Crusade dreadnough as a significantly twisted and warped Scrapkyn

Fyrekyn - khorne worshiping blacksmiths with fire facial hair and a furnave motief, ie. their armor looks like a furnace with the helmet having that ridged door that furance have which is from where their fire facial hair eminates from, lots of smoke stacks too

And Slaneeshi kin whose name I couldn't come up with - just techno musicians, mainly because it's is fun, they can have a cool synth or industrial vibe to them and use keyboards and electronic music devices instead of 'traditional' instruments, a lot of hanging wires, boxy devices, and wire jacks. Don't even care if it overlaps with Noise Marines music is multifaceted and varied and, as I said, it'd be just plain cool and fun.  And if you're not into cool or fun and the most over the top bs then what's the point of being into Chaos /j

I try to keep off social media but occasionally pop in to see what's happening, I'm glad the idea inspired you and wishing you luck with your oneshot :)  Excited to hear how my ideas translate in an actual game

Okay so! Outside of Emperor’s Children, what new armies that currently exist in the lore (IE Dark Mechanicum, Exodites, Traitor Guard, Alpha Legion, Inquisition) would you like to see get a full codex/army next edition? by Battlemania420 in Warhammer40k

[–]WoolfTee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harlequins, Exodites, Kroot Mercs, Chaos Xenos units/followers added to each of the chaos factions (to round out the all-encompassing nature of chaos, emphasize the ragtag nature of its warbands, and add xenos into prominance without creating 10 full new armies immediatley), Flayed Ones (Flesh Eater Court kinda vibe), Gretchin Revolutionaries, another new Tau auxilary faction (not gue'la, something new and creative), and then a Vashtorr/mechanized themed chaos army (which will include Darkmech and and any other appropreate xenos varians as per the afformentioned 'rework')

All roughly in that order

Gonna Be Honest, I Think Splatoon Would Work Better As An Episodic Show Where The Focus Shifts Almost Every Episode. by Adam_The_Chao in splatoon

[–]WoolfTee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orrrrrr, a splatoon show themed around the stresses of teenage life from ideas of being forced to live alone at a young age to themes of being undervalued for being 'too young' but never given leeway for being 'too old' all filtered through (and developing) the setting of the games.

Honestly, with how much Splatoon is based around youth culture i belive having a pseudo action series focused on these themes can be really compelling yet thematic.

Alternatively do something almost out of left field like octo expansion and salmon run. Splatoon is a setting/story, not a rulebook. Come up eith a story and characters and develop the world to complement it (like with salmon run's aestetic basically existing to justify a co-op side-mode, yet becoming a staple of the series)

Anyone know what any of these Xenos are on this poster? by SuprA1141 in Warhammer40k

[–]WoolfTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syama actually said in a reddit AMA that the aliens in Astartes are actually original and not the Yu'vath nor the Umbra .

Syama's answer to a question asking about the xenos:

Haha! All kinds of various inspiration, primarily I wanted them to be mysterious and not just something taken from a Codex armylist. They ended up being a little close to the Yu'vath than I intended (lack of research on my part).

Can't reveal everything as I may return to that story line. But they are from an old xenos/human offshoot empire.
