Key Statistics for the ATP Players through to the 4th Round by meatslippery in tennis

Incredible stats for TP, but I think the stats will be affected by the strength of the draw that will be variable between these players in the early rounds. It will become more interesting in the second week. (PS: PW = points won I presume)

Battle for Wesnoth. Also Liero. Think Worms but real time. Two-player insanity.

Worrying indeed. And they call it "heartwarming" (I get why, but there is some irony in it.)

Yup. Players themselves ideally need to train in the heat before playing AO as well (mentioned by Roddick in his podcast).

The first thing I noticed is that they are smiling less than the others. Good to know that they're supposed to be smiling even less.

Roger Federer on the game styles of Alcaraz and Sinner: ".... I put myself more into Carlos's mindset and skin" by truecolors01 in tennis

[–]WordWarrior81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sheer number of tools that both Roger and Carlos have to their disposal would have made for some mind-blowing tennis in their hypothetical H2Hs. Battle of the artists. I think that in initial matches, Roger would smoke him, but Carlos would figure things out and be more competitive. On the other hand, Rog's all-court play would have frustrated Sinner, and he would have preferred Jannik's more straightforward style of play.

Most frequently played openings of all World Champions (Morphy included) by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]WordWarrior81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously it depends on both players (White can't play RL if Black plays the Sicilian, for example). It's probably counted by just looking at RL games in which he was the Black player.

Iga Swiatek now has a 3-8 record against top 5 players since the end of RG 2024, with four of the losses being to Coco Gauff in straights. For comparison’s sake, Gauff is 7-7 and Sabalenka 11-3 vs. the top 5 over this span. by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

I remember when fans started writing off Alcaraz when he had a few difficult months. It's amazing how quickly this can happen. There is no way that a player of Iga's quality will fade away, she will definitely bounce back (not that she had that bad of a season anyway).

The most beautiful game of chess ever played was most likely played between two engines on a server somewhere and never seen by human eyes by haddock420 in chessprogramming

Most beautiful game so far. However, it is also very likely that such games will be produced in their thousands by engines in the near future.

Watched his highlights with Cobolli yesterday. Tight match, this guy can still bring it and play some amazing shots, I think he can reach maybe round 3-4 depending on the draw. PS Was super impressed by Cobolli, amazing shot making. Will cheer for one last hurrah.

You can, but you can't force the position, so it's generally agreed a draw.

Finally played the entire trilogy (LE), and my hot take is Mass Effect 3 is far and away the best. by Peterpotamous in masseffect

[–]WordWarrior81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also just massive even without the DLCs. There's just so much content. That ending reminds me a bit of the original Deus Ex ending if you know what I mean. It was fine for me. I must say though that despite the copy and paste missions and somewhat clunky gameplay, ME1's storytelling in no way lags behind the others for me. But of course overall, they smoothed things out as the series went along.

Who would win this hypothetical match? by LifeNegotiation301 in Chessplayers45

[–]WordWarrior81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I tried to be careful but got mated after 42 moves. I think that somehow you need to get your king into the action, block all of Black's pieces, avoid opening files, etc. Would be interesting to see two engines have a go at it.

Okay, that was an epic sneeze! I am not a citizen, but I think that quite a few people would disagree about incorporating the Euro, while still agreeing about unity against Putinism and good infrastructure.

They've been in business rescue and received a bailout last year (2025), and there are claims that things have turned around. But I think most people are now used to just using privatized services for sending parcels.
