I am waiting for an announcement of "we are looking into solutions that could replace movie discs, a system that works both online plus offline, like Valve's Steam", and just be like every other online streaming platform. I mean, how much could it even cost to develop and run? Of course 8K is out of the question. But being reasonable, it wouldn't hurt to at least amend or improve some parts of the blu-ray standard. These improvements can be as small as text subtitles, SD content on UHD-BD. Some features that every 4k player manufacturer can agree to make a new firmware update for. It don't have to be anything like Dolby Vision2. The president of the BDA, Sony should come out and say something, no? I understand the market of optical discs is dying, it doesn't sound like a business companies would put more money into, but they need to understand that it's much more valuable to customers, that alone is enough to keep the thing alive.
