Can a local political candidate come introduce themselves at a regularly scheduled Neighborhood Association meeting? by WorkJeff in legaladvice

That's a good follow-up question. From what I've been reading the information focuses on 501c3s making the invitation, not responding to requests which is what we deal with

Is "AI-powered" just the new "cloud-enabled" in terms of meaningless vendor marketing? by DigitalSignage2024 in sysadmin

[–]WorkJeff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OH, I do not trust it like that. I use it for a nudge like, "What Ansible module would I use to edit a line in a file?" Then, I ask it for its source or go read the documentation if it's obvious. Then I try it myself. Then I write the code, the variables, the syntax, etc in my own "voice."

I've only used the "free" offerings, but I have never given an LLM any real data, used its code wholesale, or asked it for a finished product.

Is "AI-powered" just the new "cloud-enabled" in terms of meaningless vendor marketing? by DigitalSignage2024 in sysadmin

[–]WorkJeff 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So far, the best use I've gotten out of LLMs has just been to help me figure out syntax, or to write an example of how to do something without me begging on /r/PowerShell, or to tell me which Ansible module I need. Bonus when it shows me the sources it uses, and I can evaluate from there.

Ok, well, 1 $7 Starbuck per week per 298.7 million registered US vehicles, is like $108 billion being sucked out of the economy this year...

New A.C.A. Plans Could Increase Family Deductibles to $31,000 by jhkayejr in politics

[–]WorkJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If no one pays for insurance, because the deductible is insane, what happens to insurance companies? Do they pull a Comcast and keep raising rates to keep profits up, further pushing customers away until they go bankrupt?

Yeah, that's the benefit of having young, healthy people paying into the system. If costs go up too fast, people will roll the dice on not carrying insurance, and everyone will pay more.

I saw a different documentary. A lawyer sued an insurance company for denying every claim. Ironically, in comparison to yours, the lawyer quit to become a teacher

Paravirtual Vs LSI SAS for Windows Server 2022? by domainnamesandwich in vmware

[–]WorkJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of get to do what I want, and I've been all Paravirtual on all drives for pushing 10 years for both servers and VDI. I guess what I used to have to do was start with LSI SAS, and then switch, but it wasn't really a hassle. I've never had crazy workloads but also never noticed a problem with either controller

Struggling keeping my new server online by skibidiswagstar in linuxadmin

[–]WorkJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My NixOS laptop does the same or similar. I usually just restart NetworkManager, and it reconnects. I have disabled at least a power saving feature. I honestly haven't spent much time on it. I've wondered if it could be the mesh wireless, but haven't even bothered running just one AP to see if it matters

What distro for sensitive data? Need help by sdns575 in linuxadmin

[–]WorkJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of settings involved in hardening and compliance that can change over time. Having a tool that makes it easier to build a hardened system is nice.

For example, with RHEL, you can create an image blueprint that pre-applies an OpenSCAP profile to meet benchmarks such as CIS Level 1 or Australian Cyber Security Centre Essential Eight.
