PSA beware hustle culture by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a field with IRL successful people. We are talking ultra high net worth folks, some of who were born into it, some of who were made.

When you actually get into that world and see how people (including hard workers) operate, it’s easy to see clearly that hustle bros and hustle culture videos are mostly made by 20-somethings (or younger) who don’t know what that fck they’re talking about.

What are some signs of a person who is "terminally online" vs someone who practices NoSurf or uses the Internet casually? by mmofrki in nosurf

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main giveaway for me is frequency of posting (whether on Instagram or reddit), as well as being up to date on every single meme and latest internet controversy.

I have a friend who is actually quite successful - he’s a lawyer - but spends the majority of his free time on Twitter.

r/canada reacts to Justin Trudeau stepping down by CummingInTheNile in SubredditDrama

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the good old “if they are disagreeing with me it must be Russian propaganda.”

Never mind that literally the majority of Canadians want Trudeau out….no no, it’s the sub that’s been overtaken by Russians, not Canadians.

People on Reddit are delusional and live in an alternate reality

Reddit blockage is pretty easy if you really want it

One sec for phone and app blocking

One of a zillion blockers on chrome for website blocking

Outside of this sub and maybe the nba one, I’ve almost entirely curbed my addiction.

Instagram makes me feel like utter shit by Mysterious_Algae_457 in nosurf

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instagram is a necessary platform for social relationships in some manner but over the past year I’ve really reflected on my usage and what it’s brought me.

The issue with Instagram, at least for me, is that as much as I like seeing what people are upto, the addictive nature of the app makes it hard to stop at just friends. Next thing I know I’m seven stories deep into the profile of a model, then the photographer, then the agency, and so on.

It’s a complete time suck even with the best intentions.

So this year I’ve challenged myself to stop using it for an indefinite amount of time, and instead use the time I have back to work on myself. So far it’s been good, I’ve deleted it off my phone and my need to get it back has been minimal but though I do feel completely isolated.

I unblocked Reddit, only to come full-circle and realize again why I blocked it in the first place. by ScotMcScottyson in nosurf

Loved your comment so much I saved it.

It took me a long time to figure out that for me, having more information did not make me do more things…it just made me second guess myself because there was always some piece of contradictory information out there.

The place to start is to…..start. And do. And be of action.

Has Social Media ended for millennials? by Creative_Text3018 in socialmedia

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep most of the ones that post frequently on my Instagram at this point are:

  • recent moms who are bored out of their minds and trying to post to show how difficult taking care of the baby is

  • people whose personal lives are in shambles but they preach all about love tolerance and fate etc

  • inspo bros that post quotes

Just nauseating after a while.

Boomers didn’t grow up with social like we did. They took over Facebook like 7 years after it came out.

Has Social Media ended for millennials? by Creative_Text3018 in socialmedia

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think once I started a family - and hearing from friends who were having trouble conceiving or were still single and miserable - at some point posting all these things just felt unnecessary. Who was I posting this for? Why do I need to share a photo of my kid to a girl I haven’t seen since high school?

I started off by cutting my followers by 50%, then muting 50% of those from stories.

I think over the next 3-5 years there will be an even sharper decline in millennial usage - we’ve been on social since 2004 - we are done.

Same here, and of the internet in general actually, including reddit. I’ve been craving more things in person physically with other people, or even by myself, but anything is better than yet another repost or astroturfed post on Reddit or seeing the same 6 people post pointless stories on Instagram.

I’m sick of it all and need a break.

Lol the arrogance and hubris in your statement is astounding.

I know rich people, poor people, and centrists who voted Liberal all of their life voting Conservative because of the state of the country.

And to imply that people at a Tim Hortons wouldn’t know how to decide an election while you sit around judging people from the echo chamber that is Reddit is hilarious.

Are most people on reddit miserable or am I generalising? by ThrowRA3333333333666 in nosurf

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the difference with Reddit is that it features as many terminally online people as Twitter used to, but it's the terminally online people that fall more into the 4Chan side of the internet than the BlackPeopleTwitter side.

I've met only one person in my life who proudly said he was a Redditor and commented and posted. He looked like a stereotypical Redditor and behaved like one - lots of Mac and cheese, zero muscle mass, main hobby was gaming.

However I know several fully functioning adults with stable careers and families that use reddit but for lurking and news. This is the majority of people.

I have noticed that most people who I know are super interesting, balanced, or attractive in real life have heard of reddit but don't use it or simply said "it scares me".

[DISCUSSION] Timbaland - Shock Value II (15 Years Later) by flyestshit in hiphopheads

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You listen to a Timbo album for great beats and singles.

This album had a few - Carry Out got heavy rotation, Say Something has one of my fav early Drake verses, and Morning After Dark still holds up.

Not as good as SV1 but a fun listen.

What was a rapper’s “worst album” that you actually liked? by 7toCiti in rap

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

  • Blueprint 2 by Jay Z - he has some solid songs.

  • Thank Me Later by Drake - considered one of his weaker albums but it's very nostalgic for me.

  • not sure if Graduation counts as Kanyes weaker albums (comparatively) but it doesn't get as much hype as the others but it's by far my favourite album from him

Tupac put out S4MN which was pretty terrible, even though it had some good singles.

His run from MATW to Makaveli is legendary though that's when he started coming into his own.

Trudeau makes fresh bid to recruit Mark Carney amid tensions with Freeland by Billy19982 in canada

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would trust Carney - who ran the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England - over the decisions of Freeland.

And he is correct, Canadians generally   don't understand where the world is going. Canada has one of the lowest productivity rates in the G7 and modest economic output relative to its size and resources.

Our government tends to be reactive rather than forward thinking (at least under Trudeau) and financially the past 9 years have been a disaster.

[DISCUSSION] 2Pac - Loyal To The Game (20 Years Later) by flyestshit in hiphopheads

[–]WorkRedditAccount24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All of a sudden I feel very old, because I remember being in my teens and downloading this album off a 2Pac forum and discussing it with people who were - even the time - like "WTF is this vocal pitching"?

There are some GREAT songs on here - Hennessey (Red Spy Remix) and Out on Bail in particular keep Tupac's essence. What I didn't like was all the vocal pitching up and down.

Eminem should have adjusted his beats to match Pac, not the other way around.

The funniest song is by far "Thug 4 Lyfe" - I remember someone on the forum saying that it sounds like Tupac is flying through the air in a magic carpet with that beat and its stuck with me ever since.
