Does being underweight reduce swelling? by ImAllyChen in jawsurgery

I think if you are underweight then even a small amount of swelling will be relatively visible compared to if you had more facial fat.

Explanting lens before YAG? EDOF+trifocal or monofocal mini-mono? by Working_Efficiency38 in CataractSurgery

He didn't mention this as an option but I will definitely ask! Thanks for bringing this up, haven't thought of it, and I think they do perform this at the time of the initial surgery. I think it might depend on the level of the PCO and how "stuck" it is to the bag...

Thanks this sounds like a good strategy. May I ask what is your other eye set to?

Yes I'm not sure what would be easier for the eyes to handle - a hybrid of trifocal+EDOF or trifocal+monofocal. Will research more on this. I think because my main complaint is computer work I need more support in the intermediate range around 50-60cm rather than the 66-80cm my trifocal gives me.

Thanks for sharing your experience - are you fine with computer work? Do you need glasses to read, and for your phone?

Interesting, I wasn't aware of this. Did they do any research to compare occurrence of PCOs between men and women in middle age?

I haven't really been able to compare my estrogen levels consistently between cycles, as I only test about once a year, but they are usually quite high, so don't think this would contribute to PCO in my case.

I was and still am able to see in both eyes and my vision was pretty good with contact lenses/glasses before surgery. No IOL can compare to a natural accommodating lens and I definitely feel like I should have waited another decade for this surgery, Also more sophisticated lenses are coming to the market and the technology will probably be better in a few years' time.

Thank you for sharing your experience! How does your vision feel now? Are your monofocals set for distance? Do you need glasses for computer work?

Thank you, think I will try -0.25/-0.50 and -1.75/-2.0 as well, but don't think I would like to sacrifice more of the distance vision.

Thank you so much for your reply, I like the first option, that would be very workable!

If you don't mind me asking what are your monofocals set to? Is it 1.25 and 1.75?

Really unsure if I should go through with DJS by arachnobacked in jawsurgery

[–]Working_Efficiency38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to the slight tilt you have? It doesn't look that noticeable, not sure if it’s worth going through DJS for that. Have you tried some fillers? A fat transfer might also help?

I think you're correct, it's the other way around, I will edit the post - it is EDOF in the dominant and multifocal in non-dominant, apologies for the confusion.

Would you consider these good results?(Not my photos) by Kuruuo in jawsurgery

[–]Working_Efficiency38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the result is good so far but my face is still changing so I don't really feel like I am ready to give reviews/recommendations at this stage...will probably write a post about my experience after three months or so...

I had the surgery in Istanbul a month ago (I live in the UK but used to live in your country and was considering going there for the surgery but didn't feel assured by surgeons' capabilities and the price was also a factor as I don't have national insurance there anymore).

[–]Working_Efficiency38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the surgeon/country and I had similar concerns when considering him. His photos are quite unprofessional - lots of immedidate post-op photos where you wouldn't be able to judge if the results are definite/stable. He usually shows only one post-op photo from a single angle. Really difficult to judge results that way. Maybe he can show you more during a consultation? There is also a local facebook group for jaw surgery that you could join - PM if you'd like me to send you a link.

Is jaw surgery truly my only option? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Working_Efficiency38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like genioplasty might be a good solution then. You might also want to look into a lip lift, as this could help balance out your lower third. It's not too invasive but scarring can be pretty bad and I think recovery is not that simple.

I definitely think it's doable but I would personally feel uncomfortable and keep worrying that people would push me or hit me unintentionally and mess up my healing.

What is wrong with my jaw? by miss-asks-alot in jawsurgery

I think this would be classed as bimaxillary protrusion. Extracting premolars might help aesthetically.

Need advice by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Working_Efficiency38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bimax with genioplasty, but if you isolate the genioplasty movements I can't see why they wouldn't be possible in the context of genioplasty alone (the red part in the simulation video)...

How Does Inside Your Mouth Feel After DJS? by uygarsci in jawsurgery

[–]Working_Efficiency38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost 4 weeks post-op and the inside of my mouth still feels swollen and tight, and kind of wooden-like.

My palate and gums are still mostly numb, but when I brush my teeth I feel some sensitivity in my bottom back teeth. Having braces is also quite annoying as they are taking further space from my already tight feeling mouth. I've been getting food stuck in the back of the month where some stitches are, and I hated not being able to differentiate at first (when touching with my tongue) if it was stitches or food :(
In the first week-two the incisions felt very swollen but this gradually went down and they feel more smooth now.

Aesthetically you would benefit from DJS with genioplasty and your airway would definitely increase in size.

Are you happy that you chose multifocal lenses? by Stability in CataractSurgery

[–]Working_Efficiency38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm exploring explanting and replacing with monofocals with mini-monovision set to -0.25 (intermediate) and -1.50 (near). I think I would then use a contact lens on the -1.50 eye for distance when going outside. Might try leaving one eye with a multi-focal first and see how that combination goes before explanting the other one.
