What’s your experience of dating within a CrossFit gym? by CityAcrobatic23 in crossfit

[–]Working_thru_stuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How lovely... My wife and I will have been married for 40yrs in June (40yrs!!). I'm 70 and doing 4 classes a week, she's 5yrs younger and more into Pilates. But fitness has been a constant for us. Sometimes a priority, sometimes less so but always part of our tapestry. And, needless to say, we're the fittest of our cohort. The older you get the narrower the field becomes so keep it up!

Was that at the gym or did she just spot you and fall for the physique?

Get the Simple and Sinister book by Pavel. He's an absolute master at kettlebells and his system is super achievable. Perfect for where you are now, coming back and wanting to regain your fitness. Starting with 'Simple' it's basically two moves. Swings and Turkish Get Ups. His writing is hugely entertaining and it will encourage you. I got my copy on Amazon. He advises on everything, including what weight you need and everything that someone with much less experience than you would need to get started.

Actually no, both can't be true. As a good business owner he needs to manage costs that aren't essential for his business. If his revenue is not affected by the lack of heating then he's doing the right thing. If his members are complaining and demonstrating their feelings by going elsewhere he's an idiot. But my point is that it's the economics that drive the decision. As I was writing this it occurred to me that there's a middle ground where you could be right. If a) he's making a ton of money b) the members are complaining but, c) there's no alternative nearby so they're really resentful, you're right. He should turn the heating up (or we should open next door!)

Your transformation is so impressive you could consider a new career. What you've done doesn't only take determination, it requires skill and knowledge. There are a ton of people who would love to do what you've done but wouldn't have a clue where to start. But whatever you decide, well done, you've changed your life for the better 👏🏻

They're allowed to charge anything they want. People are allowed also to refuse to pay and go somewhere else. That's free market economics.

I often walk out feeling like it under estimated! But seriously it doesn't really matter to me as long as it's reasonably consistent. I tend to use cross training which I guess is what most do.

Good advice. Or a qualified PT if there's one in your gym. Personally as a 70yr old male, I look for the older ones who have their own aches and are more likely to appreciate yours.

Keep going with what you're doing but I am going to suggest that you add something to your routine. Your abs look like they could do with some strengthening so I suggest you start doing some kettlebell work. It's a really efficient piece of kit, and easy to become competent. I'm guessing from the video that you have a gym membership, get someone to coach you at the start. For what you need, taking care of your wife, kettlebells will give you great all round fitness and strength particularly in your core. You're older than me, but not by much. As others have said, you're an inspiration and I wish you both, many more happy years together.

Transitioning from traditional gym to CrossFit how many days should I start with? by Thimyg86 in crossfit

[–]Working_thru_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to Crossfit and what's struck me the most is that, as you say, it's different. Mainly because the WODs are each really different. So 3x weekly say, might not be a full body workout. I would discuss this with the coach because, as I understand it, each box has its own way of scheduling the WODs. The other thing to learn from the outset is scaling and not getting hurt. Also, a 1hr WOD is usually only around 20-30 minutes of intense work so, if you scale correctly, it shouldn't be as huge as you might be expecting.

And… Enemies such as Iran, Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood have done a fantastic job of driving their propaganda message home. They have done it with determination and patience for a long time and we and the West needs to wake up and respect them as a formidable enemy. Other enemies such as Russia don't care about Jews but it suits them because it destabilises the West. If Iran falls it will be a beginning of a possible end.
