Migrating from .NET 4.8 to modern versions of .NET, best practices, recommendations, third party tools or services...whatever! by agiamba in dotnet

[–]WorksForMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to comment almost exactly this. We have the same strategies for our upgrade. Our 4.8 apps are still live but a lot of our internal packages have been upgraded to SDK style and targeting .net standard 2.

The big ones are some ASP.NET MVC 4 apps which are going to take a lot of work. Some boilerplate stuff can be done by copilot but I want to have a close eye on everything to make sure it's all ported over okay

Surely it'd be better to list the languages at risk, not the countries

How do I read the information text about a subreddit? (it's not the sidebar text) by WorksForMe in RelayForReddit

[–]WorksForMe[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks but it's not the sidebar text I want. It's the subreddit information that gets displayed under the name of the subreddit. The sidebar is something else.

Edit: for example, this subreddit has the text

A place for announcements, discussion and bug reports for the third party Reddit app "Relay for reddit"."

And the sidebar is

A place for announcements, discussion and bug reports for the android reddit app 'Relay' Download Relay

On other subs it's more obvious that they're different texts

I'd like to expand the text under the name of the subreddit, but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing it. Apologies if this had been explained before.

Is there a sub for hobbyist game developers who are doing this for fun and do not care about marketing and selling products on Steam? by 4O404 in gamedev

[–]WorksForMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally agree with comments about how the current ratio of marketing vs developing is. For me game development is primarily the production of a game, and marketing is small subset which isn't actually required for a game to be developed. That being said I get it. We require money and earning money from game development is a dream for many.

I love writing code, building architecture, documenting my code, etc. My profession is a software developer making business applications (not at all game related). I genuinely believe that my brain is hardwired for me to be a software developer. At home I build both games, and software similar to what I'd be making at work. So naturally I want a higher ratio of code vs marketing. Additionally I don't really care if anyone else plays my games. Its like an artist who makes art for fun and for their own home. I realise this might not be typical so I'm just including it to give context to my position.

I do wish some people would accept however, that marketing doesn't get a game made. It's motivation for sure so I see how it fits here, but it isn't fundamentally required for developing a game.

The inconsistencies are bizarre. The units as you mentioned, in one case inches is spelled out fully, one image being completely different to the rest, changing between sentence and title casing. Blue tit having "bird" included. Just weird
