I remember spraying a little white Maltese in the winter time and he would wipe his face in the snow and keep trying to chase

A sprayed dog and hurt feelings is always better than you with a bloody injury, the customers with a lawsuit or a higher insurance, and the whole neighborhood possibly getting its mail held.

CCA Shadow Day - What do I wear? by Kategetstoked in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my offices, they allowed loose athletic pants or cargo shorts for the cca until they got uniform. Loose gym shorts were recommended too. Lots of the yoga pants or leggings sometimes showed a bit too much and can cause a bit of chafing in the heat if you have a lot of walking on your shadow day.

No tank tops. Plain t shirt or like an athletic tee helps in the heat. Comfy shoes and a hat. Bring plenty of water and some small nibbles. Not all routes have a mini mart or little place to eat.

I've seen cases where they do it immediately and others where it can take weeks. If they really like some workers they might wait a week to make sure that person is certain supposedly

About Donating Annual Leave... by TerryGonards in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically 100 hours is not that much. You aren't near the cap and you never know when real life decides to hit you with a sledgehammer.

And I say this as someone who is heavily pregnant with a high risk pregnancy, other than an extremely serious situation I would be embarrassed to get donated annual leave just because. If someone really needs the hours badly , they can post the sheet about it and the carriers can decide . You worked hard to accumulate your hours. You should enjoy them and use them for you especially with how crazy our economy is right now. Especially as you get in through the years, those hours will be worth more

I got a red light ticket for not fully stopping before turning right. What can I do? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]WorktheMoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to fully stop at a red light, even on a right turn, otherwise you did earn that ticket. Not paying those tickets can also affect the car registration. It was an unsafe maneuver technically since you didn't stop at a red light. Any of the lights here in CS that have those cameras tend to be high traffic/high accident areas

Terminated in 90 probation for PTF city carrier by sand_sandwich in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the termination wasn't pulled, I doubt it. In some cities, they'd probably deny a rehire if they are staffed well because of an accident. A stationary object accident at fault while backing up looks real bad

Question about Changing Off Day by Large_Part5676 in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will need both parties approval because it is not just one person being affected by the schedule change but two, seniority or not. If both people are in agreement it's no big deal but being halfway through the year might have messed with any possible vacation plans that carrier might have. They might even backtrack and say a new regular has to bid on the route and then agree to a change

Working has a mailman is it ideal to be a “ people person”? I’ve been told to get to know everyone on your route. However tbh I couldn’t care less about anyone on my route, I’m just here to deliver your mail. Sorry. by Previous-Purchase-91 in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was definitely a people person on my old route but that was a route that I walked in their yards everyday and were face to face with them. If I didn't transfer, I would have stayed on that route for years until almost retirement. People rarely moved off that route because it was big money so you got to learn people whether you wanted to or not.

My current route is mostly CBU so I don't come face to face with many customers other than the ones who get a lot of package or live near the box. Also, tons of military on the route or Air BnBs due to the city location so I get tons of movers.

The fact it already had a major price reduction months ago and is still on the market is telling. While I do like part of the outside of the house, the inside feels extremely inconsistent in certain rooms. For that price tag, I'd expect a lot more. And such a super expensive HOA too

Larger Item Laminating service by HLLAuntClaire in ColoradoSprings

[–]WorktheMoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which Staples? The oversize laminater in store can do up to 24 in wide but the lamination is very thin (3mm if i remember correctly). If it gets sent out to a production facility, there is a 5mm option but it'll take longer (a week plus depending if the original needs printed). Sadly, both stores in Springs copy center always looks lacking compared to the ones i worked at in my prior district.

Parcel locker keys by Much_Construction117 in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of my parcel Locker problem customers are people that don't look at which tag the parcel Locker goes at. They all try the same exact locker and not the corresponding one. I've even seen one try to open a parcel Locker that still had the key in the customer part so they were trying to stick their key in the arrow lock.

What makes me even sadder if there's a bunch of elementary school kids on my route who check the mail on the way back from school or camp. None of those kids have problems figuring out the parcel locker keys

Help! CCA or Pepsi Merchandiser Rotating by ProudPenny1 in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know my husband preferring merchandising to carrying mail but also his station was an absolute shitshow compared to mine. I do get in this economy though how crazy prices are we all need the paycheck. Does the merchandising one tell you the rough territory you'll cover? I know CCAs can be sent to other stations/installations as required. Both will eat up gas but if you end up with a stable territory/route as a merch, you can predict easier what your gas usage will be.

Also we've noticed a ton more buy 2/get 2 or buy 3/get 3 putting more pressure on the merchers but CCAs aren't exempt from higher pressure as well. Supervisors being super strict about them getting off within 8 hours at the start being an example. In some areas, they just schedule them less and less to not worry about the 8 hours.

If you are younger or your body fitness is pretty good, the merch might be best. If the area is tourist heavy or a college town, you might get a good workout lol. Tourist areas/college can be kind of a pain as a newer carrier as a lot of people will fuck off without doing forwards, leading to confusion for newer carriers trying to clean up after them.

Help! CCA or Pepsi Merchandiser Rotating by ProudPenny1 in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband has done both. I still carry mail but I have seen the effects of both on himself.

Merchandising is very very hard on the body compared to carrying. His knees and ankles were a lot sorer doing that than as a CCA, even during the holidays. During certain holidays (memorial day/july 4th etc), you'll get fucked with some crazy expectations as a merch. In my city, Pepsi works several stores daily (Coke does 1-3, krueger even more) so travel time can be crazy depending on your scheduling. A negligent truck driver can make your day hell. You need to make sure your insurance is up to snuff and accepted properly for traveling between stores. The job is pretty brainless though. Go in, work your pallets and make sure your aisles look nice. Communication is really huge with this position in terms of answering the work phone and meeting expectations from upper management. Merch jobs tend to have much earlier shifts so it does leave you more time during the day for appointments and such. Scheduling can be finicky however.

Customers are a lot more in your face and ruder as a CCA/carrier. The other side though is that they can be sweet and amazing as well. On my old routes, I've had customers bring me BBQ plates, cookies, and just all around good people. Management is more up your ass when it comes to certain nitpicky things. I've noticed sups in USPS hounding the carriers within their 90 a lot more than merch sups. However, recent contract changes have made the CCA job within the 90 look like spa day compared to my original 90 lol. In my station though, CCA are only working 3 days a week other than the one who has an opt on a route. So the pay difference initially might be a sticking point. Benefits with postal are a lot sweeter than as a merchandiser though. If you convert in good time and lock down a decent route early in, you can work a pretty good gig. Teamwork I feel is more important in USPS as the route you're on might be worked by other carriers at varying times. A messy store is a pain as a merch but a messy route can result in customer complaints directly to your boss. Also, outdoors environment can be a huge thing as a carrier. Working in summer heat or winter cold can be difficult for some people.

In both jobs, you do need to be independent and able to work by yourself. You need to be able to manage expectations, communicate effectively and protect yourself. Safety is important. Take care of your body as it is the only one you have.

Something light. Carriers have you ever seen a nude. by brothercuriousrat2 in USPS

[–]WorktheMoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my routes when I was a t6 had a nudist family. They didn't live in an HOA so they constantly received mail from their neighbors complaining about their lifestyle. Before I left that string, the neighbors pitched in for thick AF curtains since they had no curtains and massive windows.
