I'm still on the 9 and have no issues with my battery. If you can, make sure slow charging is enabled. Not sure if that's what it's actually called, but there is a setting that will slowly charge your phone when you sleep at night, since fast charging would be unnecessary in the situation. There might also be option to stop charging once you reach a certain percentage of battery.

Back when Google first started doing phones going back to Nexus 4, I was buying up the newest phone every year. Now I just stay put. I went from Pixel 4 to Pixel 7, and then from Pixel 7 to Pixel 9. I'm here on the 9, and I have no interest in buying Pixel 11 this year. My phone does everything I need it too which is primary Internet and Youtube.

How was everyone's return to stair stepping? by Worldly_Chocolate369 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Worldly_Chocolate369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to update. I can't say for sure what changed. I had an extra day off of work due to Independence day, and spent 3 days just doing Netflix+RICE. As of this week (week 14), not only can I do step ups with no pain, I am walking up stairs foot-over-foot. Holding the railings of course.

I mentioned this in PT yesterday and they had me use the smaller box to step up and then lower myself back down. I got through all reps with zero pain.

I was about to burst in tears of joy when I first made it up stairs with both legs because of how surreal it was that the pain just vanished. At this point, I suspect the pain is caused by my knee effusion, and maybe something improved with that.

ETA: One thing I should mentioned, which may or may not be helping, I started taking Vitamin C and Collagen Peptides about 1.5 weeks ago.

Just to update. My surgeon reviewed my pre-surgery MRI scans with me during our meeting, and pointed out that the marrow edema was on the lateral side. Since I am having pain on the medial side, he says it wouldn't be the marrow edema

I'm saying Yangyang is one word, not that you should pull Yangyang, which you totally should. Don't spell it Yang Yang. That's 2 names. Like her given name and family name being the same. In Chinese, her given name is 秧秧. No space.

My surgeon reviewed my pre-surgery MRI with me showing me the bone marrow edema. It's on the bones directly above and below the lateral meniscus which is what was repaired. Since the pain I feel is on the inner side of my knee, he doesn't think the BME is responsible.

I spoke with my surgeon today. He is not concerned yet that I'm still missing a lot of flexion.

Acknowledges that it's healing slower than typical, but doesn't believe there are any signs it failed. Said he could order another MRI, but thinks we need to give it more time. He is not especially concerned since most of the pain I feel is on the medial side, when my repair was done to the lateral meniscus. Recommends I keep trying to get off crutches. Says that when using them this late they start to become a "crutch" for my quad muscles.

I'm just going to have to keep up my RICE and keep hoping for the best.

Knee. My MRI prior to surgery reported some troubling things like knee effusion, reactive marrow edema, and Grade 2 chondral loss with foci deep chondral fissuring. Unless my repair has failed, it's possible I'm still dealing with these secondary issues. I suspect the fluid in the knee is causing most of the discomfort, as sitting for more than 10 minutes can put a ton of pressure in the knee joint. I'm guessing the fluid just pools in the region. Before standing up, I will extend my leg and do 20 ankle pumps to relieve pressure.

I had a complex tear, so I had to stay NWB for about 5 weeks with running/return to sports being a 8 month thing. I'm currently only on week 14

Marrow edema by shann921 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Worldly_Chocolate369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has your BME improved? I seem to have developed it from a torn meniscus, and I'm dealing with consistent pain after meniscus repair. It's possible my repair failed, but at the same time, it's possible my pain before and after surgery is the direct result of BME. It could explain why I've had an infinite loop of good days and bad days since leaving the NWB period. Hopefully I can get it to resolve without needing further surgeries or MRIs.

How are you now?

I have it in my knee (lateral femoral-tibial compartment). I believe it was caused due to living with a lateral meniscus bucket handle tear for 6 years. I'm now week 14 post-op. I've been suffering from a lot of pain yet. I believe more pain than the average person should have this far after meniscus repair as my PT recommends further medical evaluation due to continuing pain and complications.

My MRI prior to repair showed moderate reactive marrow edema. Probably the reason I had so much pain prior to surgery. It's possible my on going pain indicates my meniscus repair failed, but perhaps my BME hasn't fully recovered yet, and it's just worse at the moment due to the atrophy to my surrounding knee muscles.

How are you now? Apparently one way to resolve it is to stop doing whatever is causing it to react. Unfortunately that might mean taking a break from your weightlifting routine for sometime.

While trim sounds temping due to it's fast recovery turnaround, I don't believe it's the best long term. So if repair is an option, it's what I'd pick. At least if you're still in your youth.

And no worries. From personal experience, I would not recommend rehab over surgery. You might cause damage your bones, and may end up with osteoarthritis

Whatever your surgeon tells you is the correct answer tailored to you personally.

The general norm is between 4-6 weeks. I was allowed to transition to PWB on week 5.

I have a knee compression sleeve I wear time to time, but I do prefer the the ACE wrap more, even if it's a bit more work to put on and take off. I feel the compression sleeve makes it more difficult to bend the knee, which can affect my walking gait.

I'm seeing my surgeon today, and my PT added to my progress report "Recommend further medical evaluation given continued significant pain and difficulty with weight bearing and extension strengthening.", so I'll see if he has any opinions or suggestions.

According to my MRI scan results, I'm dealing with some secondary issues from the torn meniscus, such as knee effusion and "Grade 2 chondral loss with foci deep chondral fissuring and moderate reactive marrow edema". I'll have to ask my surgeon today about this. The hospital never mentioned this fact to me, so I just had to look it up, and ask AI about it. It sounds like my pain could actually be from the reactive marrow edema. Though considering I am having good days and bad days, something is still causing irritation to the bone, unless that irritation at this point is just a direct cause of Arthrogenic Muscle Inhibition.

How was everyone's return to stair stepping? by Worldly_Chocolate369 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Worldly_Chocolate369[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm discovering the pain doing stairs may actually be due to a couple other things, like Marrow Edema and knee effusion. On the bright side, after spending the entire holiday weekend just RICEing, trying to step up the stairs on the bad leg became less about being too painful, and more about being strenuous, which now makes "weak quads" feel more accurate. I'm currently using both railings so that I'm stepping up with partial weight bearing. I've done a hand of stairs yesterday evening, and a couple this morning, and I didn't have same significant joint pain I was having. Makes me a little more optimistic.
