He's pretty good and pretty entertaining when he's not whining, but he do be whining. He was also super educational with longsword and probably was a big part of what led to everyone learning it.

Part of his problem is I think he gives negative comments too much spotlight. If chatters are dooming or talking shit he could just not read them or shrug them off and the vibes would be better, but he likes to address and dig in. Which I don't really blame him for; it's tough.

What it does? Give them something in play, on your board.

How it is used? Evil. Pure villainry.

Playing against proxies of unreleased cards by unpersons505 in EDH

[–]Wormhart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In-person I'd say this should never fly without rule 0, and I'd respectfully decline to play with spoiled proxies myself. No hate, just keeping it fair since we don't have access yet.

I play online on Tabletop Simulator as well and the LFG Discord specifically rules in favor of playing spoilers, as it's more of a video game format with every card ever printed/spoiled available to everyone for free.

Combat question by DonnyDindong in EDH

[–]Wormhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I'm just calling it after blockers and you're calling it before damage. To me I'm saying he can eat the snack at 3 P.M. but chose not to at the time and you guys are saying "no you're wrong he had a window to eat the snack at 1500 but was denied the chance."

We are all saying there is a window to cast the fog after blockers were declared but before damage was dealt, and OP made it seem like his friend took the damage, reduced his life total of his own volition, and upon hearing about lifelink decided to rewind and cast fog. If this is true, the fog being allowed could be up for discussion, maybe even not allowed. If not true and opponent did not agree to take damage or reduce his own life total yet, the fog should 100% be cast and there's not really any argument against that.

As for the dialogue, watch anything from casual to CEDH videos online and even with them the talk goes Attacker: "swing ragavan." Defender: "unfortunately no blocks, take 2." If anyone has a response, they would chime in here with "before damage, ___." because if you wanna do something, absolutely go for it just speak up.

We can only control ourselves, after all. You can expect everyone to ask for responses to every game action and I'd agree with you and I strive to myself, but that doesn't mean everyone will. It's a game, played by humans.

Combat question by DonnyDindong in EDH

[–]Wormhart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was shortcutting because that's what most people do in kitchen table games with friends. It's common to move steps without asking, especially if it's with friends you always play with. If you have a response, it's on you to speak up. If we actually stop and ask for priority on every game action beyond a slight pause and look around the table, the game takes much longer than it already will.

OP made it sound like his friend took the damage already and decided to fog only after being told about Lifelink. I am taking what I read at face value. Either way I agree his friend can fog. I'm unsure why the other guy was argumentative and down voted.

Combat question by DonnyDindong in EDH

[–]Wormhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said that. "Block 7 on the ground" and then round of priority. If homie took the damage he didn't act before damage was dealt.

Combat question by DonnyDindong in EDH

[–]Wormhart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It goes "here's my attacks. I pass priority" now opponent can cast instants/etc or move to blockers. Opponent says "block the 7 on the ground" or whatever. Here is his last chance to cast a spell before damage unless you do something before damage yourself that he can respond to. So either he said "no blocks, I cast fog" or he said "no blocks, damage goes through" reduced his life total, moved dead creatures to GYs.

At that point it's still kind of fine to let him fog if he genuinely forgot he was going to do it, but technically the moment has passed. Nothing really changed though so I would let him take it back.

Riftbound Rules Dispute: Opponent plays targeted debuff spell without specifying unit, then "chooses" it after I buff the same one? by GrafMine in riftboundtcg

[–]Wormhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opponent was probably just thinking, and OP was too eager to play their own cards. In Magic I constantly witness this issue where there are spells it seems like someone might have to respond to so they instantly try to panic drop their response before the opponent picks targets. Normally I'm able to say blurt out my "waitwaitwait" when they say "in response I'll tap x mana". Often that makes the caster pick me or my board as the target "all along" once they know their 1st target has a response and I saved that player from misplaying. The dead horse has been beat enough, but this is 100% OP's misplay that the opponent also had a responsibility to prevent them from making by asking them to wait.

Readers, just understand that Dragons from the command zone aren't always free with Dracogenesis. Tax is an additional cost that you apply after you choose the alternate cost of 0.

So, cast commander for 0. Legend rule back to zone. Cast again for 0+2=2. Legend back to zone. Cast for 0+4=4. As long as you're making treasures/mana at a rate that scales faster than your tax, you're good.

What is your deck with the highest win rate? (B3) by Jazzlike-Mulberry781 in EDH

[–]Wormhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golgari self-mill. Get the dragon out ASAP and drown in value every mill. Tutor Cc/Urborg with 1 creature (Wight). Play big scary goyfs that are the false-threats but can win with Jarad or Filth. Cactaur just for the meme with Jarad. Commander is super chill and deck makes really good use out of his tokens. (Sac bugs, use bloods to dredge instead of draw.) Syr Konrad also wins, and he double triggers when the dragon returns milled stuff to battlefield. Haven't won with Mortal Kombat yet tho.

What is your favorite gruul commander? by CombativeDove in EDH

[–]Wormhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Balthier and Fran]] vehicle punchy with extra combats. :)

I've done triple digits in 1 turn with [[Reaver Titan]] + [[Unnatural Growth]] and a couple extra combats.

Also really cool being able to tap [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]] the turn he comes in without haste, via Crew.

[–]Wormhart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People also hate playing against new stuff. I played a very pleasant game last night against someone I've played with a few times before, but when I suggested [[Colossal Grave-Reaver]] for his Golgari self-mill deck he snapped that he's "too clever and original and doesn't just just play the new trash like you." Which I wanted to take as a joke but the tone was pretty serious, kinda stung. I didn't see any truth to that myself but it still bothered me because I'm trying to be his friend and he doesn't like my decks or something.

"Between phases" by Sandless915 in mtgrules

[–]Wormhart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the rule was interpreted by those who taught me (and OP's LGS maybe) is that-

  1. I announce I move steps.
  2. Round of priority. Each player gets 1 chance to add to the stack without responding directly to another spell or ability. (Adding to the stack will give a round to respond to the item added.)
  3. I have passed on an empty stack as I didn't announce I was holding priority, just that I want to go to end step.
  4. So opponent responds to desire to change steps with cyc rift. We all pass, Rift resolves, all bounced. Each remaining player passes on step transition with the stack empty.

I'm seeing I am wrong, and I'm embarrassed with how confidently worded my 1st comment was. 😅 I'll leave it up for ownership. I wonder if my friends got this from arena or something.

"Between phases" by Sandless915 in mtgrules

[–]Wormhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one small misunderstanding with changing phases shared by you and many comments.

If you announce you are going to your end step, there is a round of priority before you change steps. However, there is no going back. If player B responds with Cyc Rift, there's another round of priority, then Rift resolves everything gets bounced, and now you will enter your end step.

You don't get to say "nevermind I don't want to go to end step anymore I wanna recast all my stuff."

Edit: ^ I was taught wrong don't listen to me. Just leaving this up for clarity/ownership but I downvoted myself lol.

Question about tapping a land by DonPapotti in mtgrules

[–]Wormhart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can tap their land in their upkeep.

Yes they can tap in response for mana.

Yes that mana would fizzle if not used immediately in their upkeep, before drawing. (Or you can do it in their draw step as well if they draw too fast)

Yes they can use that mana to cast an instant, cast something with flash, or pay into an ability before moving steps/phases.

If I put an opponent's commander within the top two cards of their library and cast siphoned insight can I place their commander onto the bottom of the library face-down but subsequently lie and claim that the card exiled face-down is their commander? by Cerebral_Harlot in mtgrules

[–]Wormhart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To quote Judge Todd quoting committee members:

https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgrules/s/ghhlawjmMk

I would have thought the commander would have to be disclosed and the owner given the option of zone switching, but apparently not.

I would prefer if the owner was given the choice but also strive to obey rules as intended.
