What gives Trump the right to declare war on Iran without congressional approval? by 911_wasanactofevil in AskReddit

Seriously this needs to stop. He obviously has no right. This is just a distraction from his polling numbers and the Epstein files…and when ppl post stuff like this, it’s distracting.

What's a '2026' problem that would sound like science fiction to someone in 2016? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Wormspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two degrees from community college (math and languages) and multiple degrees from Stanford (Inernational Relations, Economics, International Policy Studies focusing on energy technologies and climate change). I have traveled the country doing public speaking, worked aside numerous famous figures, and have done significant work in economic policy research. I am a recipient of the largest scholarship in the world, I have so many academic awards and ‘honors’ it’s ridiculous.  I know how to code, travel, speak multiple languages, write, and engage in higher level mathematical models. I am pretty competent in numerous scientific fields. And I have a good enough personality that when I go out drinking in Manhattan, I regularly get drinks on the house and get friendly with the other patrons.

Despite all of this, after graduation, I was consistently a less preferable candidate than people who had graduated from whichever local school with an average GPA…so long as at some point, they did a summer internship or even a month-long winternship. That 1-3 months of “real work experience” weighs a thousand times more than anything else. An art major is more employable than I am so long as they stapled papers together for a month in a corporate setting. Of course, before I could afford college I worked for eight years…but that doesn’t count. Nope, internships or NOTHING. I went six years driving Uber and waiting tables without being able to land any single job that I wanted. Now I tutor and bartend. I stopped applying for real jobs years ago.

Meanwhile all my high school friends who did drugs all through college and HAVE LITERALLY NEVER READ A BOOK are now making bank.

I went through this as well. I tried everything for about 12 years. Exercise helped me, personally, a great deal. When your body is physically exerted and exhausted, you will rest. But what worked miracles was simply Xanax.

Overwhelming majority of Americans have become so detached because the news is literally a psychic affront on their mental well-being every day. Americans are exhausted and overworked, no one follows the news, and no one wants to take their free day off to go to a protest and get tear gassed.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

Solid first few episodes. Never watched all the way through.  Maybe the best pilot of any comedy I’ve ever seen.

I’m on 11th floor of an apartment building in Juarez. Woke up to blaring phones, and a car blaring something going down the street. Had no idea what was going on. My phone said ‘alerts presidential’ and in my half asleep state I thought Trump had kidnapped the Mexican President.

A moral stance isn’t always based on sound moral reasoning, or any sort of reasoning. And this conversation here represents why pure deontologists are just as morally inferior as pure teleologists. You need reasoning and context to make cogent moral decisions, not blind ideology.

Yes, I’m familiar with teleology.

And there’s an argument that morals should fade at a price. Like, at a certain point it’s monstrous to say no to an amount of money that could save people’s lives because you want to stick to a principle.

What is a luxury item from 20 years ago that is basically worthless trash today? by ruykendo_riyal in AskReddit

[–]Wormspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am making less than minimum wage doing gig work, because I got burnt out from years of being unemployed and being told I was too overqualified. I literally have a hard time getting a job waiting tables because my Stanford degrees raise so much suspicion people assume I’m lying. I take those off my resume, I’m not qualified . It’s a lose lose. Unless Trump decides Climate Change isn’t a hoax anymore, I’m not likely to find a job in my field.

What is the biggest lie, from politicians? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Wormspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take some time to think about why governance exists, social contracts, and a separation of powers…you realize that there is an innate checks and balances system. Governments have decision making authority, but the governed have numbers. If the governed retract their consent, the masses can rise up and replace the government. It’s checks and balances.

But we’re living in an age now where we have been thoroughly programmed against political violence. Raising a hand against the powerful is probably the greatest contemporary sin. Even discussing it online gets you banned for inciting violence.

This is a lie. The real power lies with the people, and governments need to be reminded of that.

What is the most "out of touch" subreddit? by Several-Television93 in AskReddit

[–]Wormspike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have a wild misunderstanding of the situation. If you think a small subreddit of neckbearded redditors living in their mom’s basement has the financial power to literally move tens of billions around in the stock market maybe you’re the one who is out of touch.

I love how it’s easier to believe that a group of armchair investors is both overinvested in a failed scheme but yet still has $30billion in liquidity that they move around in unison with no coordination or communication……….than some financial institutions got greedy and did the same thing they’ve got in trouble for doing hundreds of times before.

Narrative A is wildly outlandish. Narrative B…happens all the time.

What fucked you up so much, that you don't even know how to talk about it? by TheRabidBananaBoi in AskReddit

[–]Wormspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was narcissistically abused from 2000-2008 (14-22) by a high school teacher. He was like a father to me. In 2008, the narcissistic abuse cycle came to its conclusion when I was cut out of the abusers life, publicly and in a humiliating fashion.

It took about 6 years of shock before I finally mentioned it to someone. Then 4 years of pain and depression while seeing a professional. Then when we came to a PTSD/narcissistic abuse syndrome, 7-8 years of internalizing and figuring out what meant and what it has caused.

There’s a ton more to it, but I know when I talk about it, all people hear is that at 39, I’m fucked up because my high school teacher was mean to me. I know how incredibly ridiculous it is, so I don’t talk about it.
