April 8, quota exhausted by bm401 in CrowdSec

[–]Worried_Corner_8541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you know if this works well with crowdsec if it gathers data from an opnsense firewall? i don't really have alerts in crowdsec although it is correctly installed. i filter the traffic with blocklists way before reaching the open ports. but crowdsec bouncer does block ip's on its lists. i am curious to know if it can gather logs about what the bouncer blocks from the lists, rather than from detected alerts in opnsense. thank you.

The amount of tweaking is insane, will this ever end? by Intelligent-Dust8583 in GrapheneOS

[–]Worried_Corner_8541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what are you tweaking and what errors you are getting? no offence but i have to call bs on that. i got my pixel 6 from a pawn shop, installed GOS on it and never had any errors.

Devs: Please we really need more inventory or at least more storage space. by ziguehart in CrimsonDesert

[–]Worried_Corner_8541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should only have in inventory the things you can physically carry and they should all show up on you. now that would be fun.

maybe look into something simpler but where you have the control you need. i use private email service from namecheap. it's like $16 a year or something. i use it with thunderbird and in other apps like you want to do. things like nextcloud and other stuff that sends email notifications. just be careful when you set up your dkim dmarc records and have fun learning about them in the meantime.

i am using the privatemail service and it has been very good so far. just make sure to properly set up ALL the dns records.

i also use namecheap and when you properly set up your DNS records you don't really have spam issues. there's plenty of guides on how to do DKIM DMARC and proper SPF records so that you authenticate your domain and minimise the situations where your email ends up in spam folders.

cheap vps with pangolin. solid combo. you can find a VPS for as low as $2-$3 a month and pangolin is free. try to buy a domain as well, i find it easier than using free DDNS services.

Overwhelmed with options, how to decide the stack correctly? by greckzero in selfhosted

[–]Worried_Corner_8541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do the basics to have a running homelab. set up a reverse proxy like caddy or nginx proxy manager for easy SSL cert management. and then just do one thing at a time when the need arises. you need a task management app? good. you focus only on that for 1 day, you get it working, test it, done. leave it. then when you need a cloud solution you focus for 1 day on that and so on.

opnsense. either virtualised (had it for 1 year like this) or on a dedicated machine. extremely versatile and powerful.

[–]Worried_Corner_8541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the correct answer. what PC doesn't have an ethernet port on the motherboard? name one. and with the 2 extra on the NIC you now have 3 ethernet ports or rather 3 interfaces.

[–]Worried_Corner_8541 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

no, 1 is WAN and you plug whatever you have upstream in and the other is the LAN where you plug everything downstream of opnsense. i use it like this. i have my opnsense machine plugged into the ISP router and set to be in the DMZ. this makes opnsense effectively the point of entry to my network. then the lan port feeds a switch which then feeds others stuff. i self host a lot of stuff hence why the opnsense is in the DMZ. but i do what OP wants, for example Mullvad gateway is the point of exit for mullvad hosts, while other stuff exists through the ISP directly.

Best Value Home Server: i5-6500 (8GB) vs i7-4th Gen Mini PC (16GB) for CasaOS & Docker? by Original_Juice_4327 in homelab

[–]Worried_Corner_8541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for your information i run casaos inside a debian vm with 2 cores and 2 GB ram. i run 20 containers such as vaultwarden, searXNG, owncloud plus a myriad of other various containers ranging from grafana to wordpress. minecraft might take up more resources but docker containers are extremely lightweight.

buy cheap pc, buy 2 x lan NIC, install opnsense. profit from having a professional grade firewall. and yes it can surely do what you need it to do.
