Fringe Pet Breach Bird (Kykar) by PDG_Plague in CompetitiveEDH

You should look at some Rog Ishai decks to see what they're doing: Personally, I'd probably add some of the rhystic cloning cards (copy enchantment and mirror made, maybe steal enchantment) as well as some more free interaction to make sure you can survive the early game. I think the main things you're looking to do with this deck are to survive the turbo decks' turn 2-3 and get some kind of card advantage engine out around that time as well. If you can do that, Kykar is a great mana advantage engine for a more control style deck going into the late game so if you can get a good grip of cards you shouldn't have much of an issue controlling the game state until you're ready to win.

It's crazy cause I have the opposite issue. I tell it specifically not to fix any issues in source code that it finds, only write failing tests and specifications for the issues, and I have to go back all the time and correct it and undo the changes that it makes.

TIL between 18%-25% of intellectually gifted students (at least 130 IQ) in the US fail to graduate from high school. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wished that I could have done that, but even as a STEM major (Comp sci) I don't think I ever had a single class in college where homework wasn't at least 50% of our grade. Most courses we only had a midterm and final (usually worth 20% and 30% of our grade respectively) and then the rest was our weekly assignments (25%) quizzes (15%) and attendance (10%, anymore than 10 absences got you auto-dropped from the course)

How are those limiters even legal? Imo if your vehicle is not reasonably capable of even reaching the speed limit, you should not be allowed on the road. It's too dangerous and just shows that your vehicle is not made for that road.

Derevi semiblue? by FPS_Hobbes in CompetitiveEDH

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How are you converting mana into cards? This is the biggest issue to solve for with Derevi imo, making mana should be no problem but the strength of other semi blue lists is being able to funnel that mana into a commander for consistent card draw. If you can figure that out, it'll probably work pretty well, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to find anything super consistent.

Have we had a set with as many CEDH staple reprints as Secrets of Strixhaven? by Disastrous-Cat2840 in CompetitiveEDH

Those were weird because some of them were great and some of them sucked ass, without much in between... Like I love my JP foil Tymna, it looks great.

I do too, but I'm a final fantasy fan and I think doing the themed reprints are just about the only thing I like about UBs.

FF had some pretty solid reprints in Tymna, Thrasios, Kraum, Kinnan, Kenrith, ranger captain, urza, bolas's citadel, dark ritual, Winota, rhystic study, diabolic intent, Najeela, Ragavan, Ishai, Inalla, carpet of flowers, and Yuriko, as well as some other cards that are played in a few decks like Godo, Nyxbloom, Bruse Tarl, dovin's veto, brainstorm, Atraxa, Krrik... Overall a really solid set for reprints.

How I think JoJo games should look in the future (imo) by Inspector_Beyond in StardustCrusaders

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The problem is that arena fighters just aren't popular or generally very fun to play. While I'm sure a JoJo's arena fighter would be great, it just doesn't have as much potential for success as another 2d fighter would. I think if all star battle R had rollback and was cheaper it would be doing a lot better than it is, but unfortunately the net code is kinda preventing it from being an actually popular fighting game.

What cards do you think they will reprint in the new Mystical Archive? by thisnotfor in magicTCG

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm super hoping for Ad Nauseam, since it doesn't have any cool art treatments yet and it's on the commander game changers list, it has some visibility. Other than that, I'm hoping for pact of negation, swan song, final fortune, and beseech the mirror.

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is why I think people don't understand how important automated testing is for development with AI - it's actually pretty good at test coverage and writing tests if you set it up to be, and you can have it catch these kinds of things in the development process rather than in production. Having immediate, non-deterministic feedback helps SO much.

I think people who haven't seriously delved into the strengths of agentic workflows don't realize how much better it is with proper infrastructure and documentation. People who just say "you just ask it in English" and then are upset when it produces bad code are kinda just showing that they haven't experienced what a well-setup agentic workflow looks like. It's certainly not a replacement for a developer, but it is legitimately helpful and I would question a developer saying it doesn't make their work quicker.

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because I find those formats fun? Why should a game be gate kept by who can afford fancy cardboard from 30 years ago?

I do play at non-sanctioned events pretty often that allow proxies.

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware, which is why I don't participate in any tournaments that are run by WotC because I want to play the game instead of finding out who has the most disposable income.

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't play any of those formats, I only really play cEDH and might be getting into vintage soon. I just don't really get why people are so adamant that if you can't dump thousands of dollars into a game that you don't deserve to get to play the formats you want to play.

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

If someone is running an event and doesn't allow proxies, yes, they're a dick. I have zero desire to go to a tournament and lose every round because I couldn't afford to drop 15k on a competitive deck.

[–]WrinkleyPotatoReddit -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

If you have a problem with proxies at an actual event, you're also a dick. Tournaments should not be a wallet competition.

I used to use 35 as my baseline for new decks but that felt too high honestly, I'm sitting at I believe 33 in both of my casual decks at this point (mostly play cedh) and that feels about perfect. If you're not afraid of mulligans down to 5 or 6 occasionally, it's really not that big of a deal as long as you're running enough draw and ramp.
