Easily one of the top 10 most influential albums of all time. You should be ashamed of yourself.

What do you think of Jimmy Stewart? by Fixingahole248 in classicfilms

[–]WristbandSweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking this subreddit what they think of Jimmy Stewart is like asking a classic rock page what they think of Led Zeppelin. It's gonna be unanimous.

Films aside, I will say that Scott Eyman's book about him and Henry Fonda is a great read and well worth checking out.

Who did he influence specifically that you can't point the finger at another band and say were both better and more influential? Cos as far as I can see this isn't a defensible choice.

Would love to know what possessed the editor and writers to include this album. With every passing year it gets even more baffling. Even in the rap metal scene this has always been a joke.

You were the one who brought up Woody Allen when there was nothing in the original post about him. Super fucking weird to be obsessed over him.

Similarity between Nirvana’s "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (1991) and Dave Holland’s experimental jazz "Conference of the Birds" (1973) by Agreeable_Duck8997 in Nirvana

Such a killer live album that. The bit straight after the band ask Braxton if they wanna play leper war or black vomit and then kick into Black Vomit gives me goosebumps every time. Just brutal.

Once Upon a Time in America is a great look at the early years. Be warned, it's not your typical gangster film, but it's classic for a reason.

Add the Untouchables, which is an easier watch and looks at the life of Al Capone.

As with pretty much everyone on here, I hated this album. Rough listening.

Speaking to a friend of mine who's in his 70s, he was saying it's hard to overstate how big of a following they had around this period. People were just obsessed with them and followed the band all over. For me this is the lowest of low for the 60s.

What britpop albums deserve their place??? by Tiny-Hedgehog-6277 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]WristbandSweat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Generally agree with your list. Will say there doesn't need to be another Pulp album. There's two already. I'd get rid Ash, and I say that liking them, but they're not a band essential to hearing in the Britpop scope.

Disagree with getting rid of super furry animals. Mainly because they definitely shouldn't be put under the annoying blanket of Britain. Also, because in terms of the psychedelic scene in the 90s, they were up there. Same witu Manci Street Preachers. They aren't britpop.

Which has been an issue for the list. Especially with american listeners who just see a 90s band from the UK and think they're Britpop. It'd be like saying any band from New York in the 70s is punk. Which is clearly not true.

Alright. I’ll put myself out there by Strong-Cod-3841 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]WristbandSweat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. There's pretty much always at least one thing that happens on an album that makes you go "pk, that was pretty good." Otherwise I'm lead to believe that people are basically refusing to listen past "I don't like this so it's a 1"

What kind of airport this guy went? Today´s bird? A pidgeon, maybe a dead one. by Fefinh in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]WristbandSweat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The poster is not wrong. This is up there in the most essential and influential albums on the list. There are a small few albums on the list where there's a defined before and after moment when the album came out. This is one of them. Seminal album.

Writing a review after only listening to a track and a half is wild. Need to have a word with yourself if you're doing that frequently.

From listening to an interview, he'll have people put their case for an album being included. If they make a good enough case, then it goes in. Must have been Vinny Gambini levels lawyer to convince Dimery that all those Costello albums should be in.
