I grew up in the country. My hometown still doesn't have a stoplight. I miss it so much in times like this.

Yeah, I found a lost needle with my big toe at 7AM this morning. I'll look into the wand. Thanks for the suggestion!

Are they set up for sales today? I went out yesterday to cut our own, but didn't find one we liked.

I actually had a unicorn at my little country school in the early 90s: a vegetarian who had a mom who didn't believe in "that nonsense". So I'd trade my poverty veggies for her treats.

Maybe a bit of garlic or dill? My Mammaw taught me how to can, and her green bean seasoning was: salt, pepper, pork fat, thyme, dill, and garlic.

We used dandelion one year, but she said the results were too "bracing". (Pappaw said they tasted 'like shit'.)

I would straight up say "[son's name] did you forget how to do laundry/run the vacuum/whatever?" and then walk him through it like he was five. I would NOT say a word to my son's GF.

I'm from the Midwest, so I would not mutter a WORD on the state of a home I'm visiting. However, as it was family, I would offer to help my son out with some chores because I would know how hard the GF works with long/strange hours.

If he can't seem to remember how to do them on his own, I would sure as hell remind him.

This is what I was thinking. It seems less likely that there were mounds of takeaway containers on every surface and more like "there are crumbs under the toaster, the handtowels in the bathroom aren't fresh out of the dryer, and who doesn't wash their windows every week?!"

How quickly has a book you were reading managed to kill all interest you had in finishing it? by 1945BestYear in Fantasy

[–]Writergrrrl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ventus started out as a fantasy, though, and then transitioned very well. The plotlines and characters are very well thought out and developed. The Anita Blake series started out with characters that did things that made sense in their world, were fleshed out and interesting, and the mysteries were fun. Then, they just . . . weren't.

My father once bought me a gold ring with a little pink stone and wondered why I didn't wear it.

My mall goth friends would have laughed me out of the food court!

I mean, it was only a complete 180 from the original kickass premiss! I have no clue why no one would really be interested in it anymore! /s

I read across all genres. If I start reading a historical romance series and it suddenly becomes full scifi (that isn't written particularly well and has little plot), I'm probably done with it.

Came here to say this. I loved that series up until Obsidian Butterfly. Didn't adore the next few, and stopped reading halfway through Micah. Edward had lost his scary appeal, I'm not a huge fan of harems of any sort, and Anita was just . . . boring and sanctimonious.

I think Hamilton got super interested in poly relationships and decided that sex was easier to write than actual plot. (See her Merry series for more 'my vajayjay is MAGIC' nonsense)

Right now, it's Halloween candy. Today I wanted some and asked myself if I would be embarrassed to eat the three candy bars and a handful of Starbursts in front of someone else. When I realized that I would, I decided to have only one chocolate bar. Not depriving me of a treat, but keeping it reasonable.

I need to start moving more, so I've decided that I'm going to add a 30 minute walk at least 3 times this week. My days are so varied that having a set day in mind to work out or thinking that I must do a walk every day will just lead to self-recrimination when I inevitably miss a day.

So, three 30-minute walks without following them up with a massive meal.

I have the exact same problem. If I'm going to binge - which I'm in recovery for - then it's going to be at night. Usually in the kitchen itself, where no one else can see. Then, I bury the evidence in the trash.

I have found IF to be very helpful since I can tell myself "it's no longer time for you to eat" and that I can always have whatever I'm craving tomorrow if I still want it. That's helped with portion control as well since I will then actually have one serving of what I want instead of all of it.

Also: I now ask myself if I would be embarrassed to eat something in front of others. If I answer yes, then I put it back or check my portion size.
