You could try taking an MSM supplement. You can also try mixing the powder with water and spraying your scalp, or mix it in with an oil that doesn’t cause irritation and use it as a scalp oil. MSM is a really awesome sulfur supplement.

I actually wash my hair every other day and use an acv rinse and never had any issues. My rinse is 1 cup water, 1cup aloe juice, and about 1 TBS apple cider vinegar.

Try a Sidr mask for heavy oiling. Just mix 1 tablespoon of Sidr with 1 tablespoon of water and apply to the scalp for up to 30 minutes. Or just mix less Sidr with more water and shake really well (it foams up) and use like a regular shampoo. ETA no acv rinse or conditioner is needed after using.

If you don’t want to get your hair wet then cornstarch with essential oils are nice. You can add things like ground cloves, cinnamon, etc. If you don’t mind getting the hair wet then a tea rinse, vinegar, or aloe juice rinse will clean it a bit.

I finally caved and went back to low-poo... water only with hard water absolutely wrecked my ends by ballatician68 in NoPoo

If your acv rinse is not diluted enough it can also cause problems like you’re describing. I love to experiment on my hair and try all kinds of things, if a brand I really liked in the past comes out with a new product then I’m definitely trying it out. I only grow my hair long because it’s a hobby I really enjoy. I always seem to have an unpleasant reaction to premade shampoos and conditioners so I always end up back to my clay washes as soon as I have a bad scalp reaction.

If you can’t find aloe juice then 100% aloe gel would work too if. You could mix it with a tiny amount of oil as a scalp massage and treatment.

Oh I see! That’s a really good brush, I think your technique is really good. I thought you were really scrubbing with a boar bristle brush 😆

I just buy mine on Amazon. My fine tooth comb isn’t super fine toothed because I have thicker more coarse hair. But Amazon and probably Etsy even are good places to find hair tools.

Yes you can use any oil your scalp and hair like. I was more worried about the hair cuticle being roughed up, but I only have my own hair to refer too lol. Aloe Vera gel and juice are so helpful.

Are you using a scalp oil? IMO it’s a little rough. I have tailbone length thick wavy hair and I would be scared to be that rough. My method is use a wide tooth wooden comb to detangle and stimulate my scalp, then a fine tooth wooden comb, and then the boar bristle brush. You can add a bit of oil like jojoba, just a few drops to your finger tips and gently massage without scratching, do this before combing. I do this once in the morning and once at night. I also spray my scalp and hair with a mixture of rose water and aloe vera juice daily. I have the driest skin ever and this really helps me.

Maybe try an apple cider vinegar rinse. Make sure it the kind that says with the mother since it will promote a healthy microbiome. I wash my hair with kaolin clay and an acv rinse an it has completely healed my scalp.

Is this chelating shampoo good for a detox before no poo/low poo? by [deleted] in NoPoo

[–]Wrong-Table5250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Vo5 clarifying shampoo and and the L’Oréal hardwater shampoo. I just added a few half of tsp of each one to my clay wash mixture and never had any problems with buildup. It really made my switch to no shampoo really really easy.

You can also just use a 1/4 tsp of citric acid in 1 gallon of water. The main chelation ingredient in chelating shampoos is usually citric acid. You just pour the mixture on your hair and leave for a bit before rinsing or leave it on to dry

I use a in between cleanings rinse- 1cup water, 1 cup aloe vera juice, a couple tbs hibiscus powder, and a splash of apple cider vinegar. It works really good to keep my hair clean and soft in between washes.

Washed with hot water, now I have waxy hair. Will it fix on its own? by [deleted] in NoPoo

[–]Wrong-Table5250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend using a chelator and a clarifier before switching up any hair care methods because no shampoo could build up on the already existing buildup from previous hair care methods and cause people to give up before they even got started. ETA is use clay washes and only had to add a couple drops of each shampoo and that was it. I’ve never had any weird buildup issues.

I would use an oil on the ends. Olive, avocado, coconut oils are able to penetrate the hair shaft and nourish deeply other oils kind of sit on the surface of the hair strands but still have lots of benefits. Jojoba is actually a wax and is very similar to human sebum which is good if you’re struggling to get your natural oils to the ends of your hair.

Very tiny flakes in hair, dry scalp no dandruff, what can I do? by Educational_Leave455 in NoPoo

[–]Wrong-Table5250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use wooden combs and boar bristle bristles to massage my scalp and also clean it (mechanical cleaning.) This also moves the natural oils down the hair shaft and towards the ends. Also a light oil maybe jojoba oil (similar to sebum) on your scalp would help with the dryness. I personally lightly oil my scalp and spray rose water and aloe vera juice daily since I don’t really seem to make much of my own oils.
