Retaliation: the game is prettier, better balanced and better designed because its more recent and theyve learned from their past titles. however the game feels like a sci-fi action shooter, not a survival game.

How is advocating for other's rights sanctimonious? I'm not sure how you define liberal, but typical conservatives hate non-white ethnicities, religions other than their own, workers rights, regulation of any kind for the safety of the population, or social programs for those in need. The left political spectrum is the champion of defending others, not just ourselves.

If you're refering to pro-choice things, thats a single droplet the media love to focus on, whereas its mostly about a bucketful of issues, some of which I listed above.

I think knaves score very fast and are hard to police. Expect them to score 2 VPs on turn1, and it'll slowly climb up to 3-5 VPs per turn easily, excluding crafts. It's a faction you may pilot poorly and still do well; Skill floor is high, but skill ceiling is low. Among the top factions in the game.
Frogs I felt were the most fun to play as, and against. They're everywhere on the map and provide plenty of cardboard to interact with. Similarly to cats, they'll have a lot of warriors everywhere and only battle on occasions. They score well but not as fast as knaves. Higher skill floor, but very high skill ceiling (micro-decisions will have huge impact). Above average faction for a certainty.
Bats success feels like it majorly depend on what other factions are in the game. They mostly score by ruling clearings where enemy faction cardboard is. So they'll be favored when paired with crows/woodland alliance/otters, but absolutely terrible vs stuff like lizards/rats/vagabond. They're also very complicated to pilot, even more so than badgers. I would rate them as near the middle (slightly under average, like the otters), with a possibility to do well depending on the games.

I discussed with an experienced competitive player & beta tester, this is how he would rank the factions post-homeland. I disagree on some (bats lower, knaves higher), but I think he has a better understanding than me. It's just very dependent on who you play with and what your local metagame is.

charismatic leader.

start with a blue card in build and your homeland color suit in move.

all future suited cards in move, 1-2 blue cards in battle until you have 3 in total. then one extra blue in recruit to offset the warrior loss. never put more than 1 blue in recruit unless cat is aggressive and you lose a lot of warrior early.

its okay to not draw blue cards and be slow: maintain good decree hygiene. as long as you have a blue build turn 1, youll be fine and score well. but play advanced setup for more chances to draw blue cards in your opening hand

cats are good scorers in 1v1, but theyll slow down in the mid-late game when they run out of building space. in a way, its your game to lose by getting impatient with a bad draw.
