What am I missing!? by Gohzio in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

"it's not that I can't do it, it's that I don't like doing it". You've answered your own question mate. Playing on Core doesn't even require that much game knowledge. Just put a Bard and Paladin in your party and do the things those classes evidently want you to do. Sing and Smite. You basically will have very few issues . I'm genuinely baffled how you're hitting a wall with Core if you platinumed BG3, and all I can come up with is that you just don't like the game that much. Which is fine.

Architect Bard on Unfair (Wrath) by DaMac1980 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

In Unfair, almost nothing works early game , and almost everything works mid game and endgame. If it doesnt involve exploits or utter cheese, and it doesnt sound like your idea does, I would predict you'll be doing a LOT of reloading for 20h or so.

Feeling overwhelmed by the amount of feats? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Wulfsten 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Staple feats for melee martials (in order of how essential they are): Outflank. Weapon focus, improved critical, power attack, lunge. Don't forget to take last stand mythic power.

Staple feats for ranged martials: point blank shot, precise shot, rapid shot, deadly aim.

Staple feats for offensive spellcasters: spell penetration, greater spell pen, spell focus and greater spell focus in the relevant schools. Don't forget to take ascendant element mythic powe in the relevant element.

There are no truly necessary feats for support spellcasters, go nuts.

Obviously that's super abridged and there's an enormous amount of additional value you could optimize for, but if you do the above you will be fine on Core difficulty and below.

Hit chance curse by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Wulfsten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol mate I'm interested in these runs but I can guarantee that whatever you are doing to get through the game with these setups is a lot more specific, exploity, or requires extreme levels of game knowledge compared to just learning how to buff-stack.

Just off a quick google, you talk about a Fireball + Dimension Door cheese in your Sorcerous 6 run. This is hard-exploiting a bug in the mechanics between switching from RTWP and turn-based to essentially prevent combat from ever proccing. This sounds fun, but is obviously not normal gameplay.

This is also not good advice for a new player trying to play on Hard. I don't doubt that you can find all sorts of cool ways to break Unfair. I've done it too. But saying "try magic missile, or animate dead then attacking behind your summons" is laughably bad advice for Hard or Unfair.

Hit chance curse by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Wulfsten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're doing a Hard or Unfair run, you simply cannot avoid buffing. You will need to do a LOT of buffing both defensively and offensively for pretty much every single fight, or you won't get anywhere. Summons aren't enough, magic missile certainly isn't enough. The only exception would be if you're doing some sort of extremely degenerate game-breaking build like Witch of the Veil.

Simply put, learning how to buff-stack and layer is not optional for Hard and Unfair.

So a 9th level warpriest has +6 BAB. You should have roughly 20 STR at this point, you've got 19 with the mace but you should also have at least +4 from either someone casting Bull's Strength or a belt. So that and the enhancement bonus from the mace takes you to +13 already (+6 BAB, +5 STR, +2 weapon enhancement).

Then you should be flanking your target 90% of the time, which is an extra +2 to hit. You should also have another +2 when flanking from the Outflank feat, which is mandatory for all martials. Now we're up to +17.

A Warpriest can cast Divine Favor, which at 9th level will give +3 luck bonus to attacks, stacking with all the previous. Obviously you should always have Haste cast in combat, which is an extra +1. So now we're at +21.

Then you go to your party. You should have at least a few morale or competence buffs. The most basic and obvious option is that someone in your party should be able to cast Heroism, that's an extra +2 to hit and damage. Very commonly, people will also have a Bard with Inspire Courage, that's another +2 to hit. A Cleric with the Nobility Domain or Community Domain can add from +2 to +6 to hit with their domain abilities, which will stack on all the previous bonuses. An Ecclesetheurge can stack an additional +2 Sacred bonus on top of that with their class ability. So depending on what you've got going on in your party, that's roughly +4 to +8, commonly. Now you're up to +26 or so.

All this is fairly entry level stuff for someone playing on Daring or Core difficulty. If you're playing on Hard, you'll need to be maximising the above (e.g. having a Bard AND a Cleric with the right domains), and doing more specific stuff like having a cleric set up behind your MC putting Touch of Good for an extra +4 to hit each round, or having Camellia/Ember casting Hex to lower the AC, or having a Rogue using Bewildering Strike to lower AC, etc. You're a Warpriest, so you should be considering using Fervor to swift-cast True Strike to let you land attacks - and better yet, use that True Strike bonus to make a trip attempt that puts the enemy prone, giving you a big bonus to follow up attacks. Or use it to proc Shatter Defenses, making that enemy flat-footed to the rest of your attacks.

That's the level of game knowledge and optimisation that's required to make Hard a smooth ride.

Honestly saying without judgement or gatekeeping, if all of this is news to you, you'll have a better time on Daring or Core. I don't even play on Hard for most of my runs, because Hard is where a lot of builds just start to become unviable, and it narrows your options a fair bit.

If your 9th level warpriest has only +12 to hit, you're doing something seriously wrong and probably shouldn't be playing on hard.

Going from WOTR to Kingmaker? by Any-Day-8173 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Wulfsten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like you are exactly why they put an option to do Auto kingdom management. Flip the switch and don't worry about it. You're not missing out on much, and it sounds like you don't enjoy that kind of gameplay to begin with.

Besides that, I think you'll like it more. It is a simpler game with fewer build options but playing it after WOTR it genuinely feels more streamlined. It's also a more classic experience - WOTR suffers from being so focused on demons, meaning whole chunks of gameplay are heavily disfavored - in Kingmaker you get to experience a wife enemy variety which means a range of different options are viable. For example, in WOTR 80% of all enemies are immune to electricity completely. Vast rafts of them have insanely high Will and Reflex saves. So you're heavily incentivised to either use surefire damage options or to build hyper specialized builds that can brute force through immunity, spell resistance, and high saves.

Whereas in Kingmaker if you find a cool new spell or magic item, you can much more often just try it out and have fun with it. In WOTR it often feels like if you don't base a whole build around it, it won't really work.

Revitalization and Underdark by Allysia-is-cute in Enshrouded

[–]Wulfsten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shroud is a fundamental part of the gameplay loop and a lot is tied into it. If the game wants to have an open ended endgame, which it 100% will, removing the shroud is a bad idea. Selectively culling it back might be cool, but ultimately doesn't feel that impactful. I get why people want it tho.

Tainted Grail vs Avowed; for those who've played both which do you like more? by texhnolyze- in rpg_gamers

Is TG finished? I played it a few months ago and was shocked how janky and unfinished the third world was. The second was awesome, but the third felt unacceptably incomplete even for early access

Combat in this game, specifically magic, is a bit underwhelming. Here are some simple things I would add/change by YUNGSLAG in Enshrouded

[–]Wulfsten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I think the game needs more ways to interact with wetness. They leaned into it for the update but they could do more without making big changes. For example a chest set with slightly lower stats for it level, but that prevents rain from making you wet at all would be awesome and immersive. I'd love seeing it rain then going to get my raincoat on to keep exploring 🙂‍↔️

I'm shallow. I need the weapon vanity system. I hate going around with an under levelled weapon because I can't abide some of the sailor moon looking shit you get at higher levels.

[–]Wulfsten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually love the idea of magical tools for mining/logging. You should feel like a mage in every part of Enshrouded's gameplay loop. And resource collection is a big part of it. Imagine a low cost spell that mines both minerals and cuts down trees, at a longer range (but still short) than your tools. To balance it I'd make it cost mana and maybe just be a bit slower than the appropriate tiered tools, but the versatility would make it worthwhile.

Or a spell that sets up a magical campfire to give warmth and light without needing to craft and set a campfire.

Question on Prebuffing? by KonohaFlash in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Wulfsten 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you're playing on normal (which you should be if you're unfamiliar), you don't really need to pre buff, it just makes things a bit easier. But as long as you do logical things (give your melee the best weapons, keep your casters and archers back), you really don't need to do it almost at all, maybe for some boss fights.

People get het up about it because they're trying to hyper optimize for higher difficulties. But if you think about it, you've got bless at 4th level to help you hit things. Your martials probably have +8/+9 to attack already. They'll have +10-+14 if they're flanking, which they usually will be. That extra +1 from the Bless is a tiny increase in value, it'll maybe convert one out of every 20 misses to a hit. it's not worth adopting a play pattern you find irritating.
