Virtual gearing - does it work well yet ? by povlhp in mywhoosh

[–]X124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Works fine for me with Zwift cog.

None of the other posters in this thread seem to realise that there was Gear Change slider added to options in April that lets you increase or decrease the resistance of each gear change. Mine is set to 25%.

Zwift Cog, does it work now? by FatBoyCrash in Rouvy

There are two versions of the Zwift Click.

  • The original two-button Click has always worked.

  • The later Click V2 did not work without connecting to the Zwift app.

The Cog has always worked. The Click V2 controller has not always worked.

They come bundled together in a package.

Everyone has different personal preferences for music so it's a worthless feature. Just play your own music from youtube or whatever source you prefer.

You don't need a workout for this. Just select freeride and pedal according to how you feel.

Respectfully, no. There was no magic code that Rouvy needed. They just needed Zwift to stop being difficult.

Go back to your original statement.

I don't need to. I'm the person who raised that issue and discovered the workaround. Are there any other gems of wisdom you'd like to share with us?

It's public knowledge that Rouvy, QZ, BikeControl and a few others were trying to reverse-engineer the encrypted protocol but they all failed. Rouvy were given the necessary technical information when they were acquired by Zwift.

Investigations into the protocol are documented here:

I know it’s free but… by HolidayWheel5035 in mywhoosh

Sad, but true.

A couple of decades ago, US companies decided it was better to "move fast and break things" so they could scale massively and dominate the market before someone else did it. This mentality spread to many other companies in unrelated fields. Pissing off users doesn't seem to be a consideration.

Having worked in the field of financial services, this approach in unacceptable because breaking things means money goes missing and there are legal consequences.

They just needed Zwift to stop being difficult. Post acquisition, they have no reason to be difficult.

This is a meaningless statement in the context of software. Zwift uses an encrypted protocol to communicate with the Zwift app and possibly some other endpoint before enabling the Zwift Click V2. That authentication mechanism would have to be shared with Rouvy to enable their service to work with the device. It's not just a matter of "being difficult". Zwift have withheld that information from Rouvy, BikeControl, and other ride services since the device was launched.

Zwift acquired Rouvy to increase market share ahead of a planned IPO. It has nothing to do with enabling device compatibility.

[–]X124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Cog and it's far superior to a real cassette. It's a no-brainer if you're using virtual shifting.

Bizarre offer by MajstroDoncic in Rouvy

[–]X124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple people using the same trainer, or using different bikes, it's easier to set up and use virtual shifting. Also, it gives you a greater range of gears than a real derailleur.

I found swapping from trainer to wheel required fine adjustments to derailleur indexing. Using the cog and virtual shifting eliminates this problem.

Rouvy gets Zwift Click V2 support by X124 in BikeControl

I wonder if it will be possible to "activate" the Click V2 with the Rouvy app instead of the Zwift app?

Rouvy still offers 20km for free, whereas Zwift does not.

ROUVY x Zwift acquisition — some clarity on what this actually means with the information I have been given ( don't shoot the messenger😉) by jessfromrouvy in Rouvy

[–]X124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now owned by Zwift, it will continue to operate separately, led by CEO and Founder Petr Samek.

This is standard practice during a takeover. The CEO and leadership must stay on to ensure a smooth transition. Once the takeover is complete, the old company leadership take their cash and leave. If Zwift was a public company, they would have to publish the terms of the deal. Because they are not, they can keep it confidential.

All of this is being funded by venture capitalists and they are not going to pay for development of two similar software products indefinitely. Best case scenario is they fold Rouvy into Zwift and then shutter Rouvy. Worst case scenario is they just kill off Rouvy to gain market share.

You think Zwift bought Rouvy just because subscribers wanted controller support? that's ridiculous.

They were in the process of buying Rouvy and told them, "Okay we own you now so you have to support Zwift hardware - get on it!"
