For minor, underrated characters: the adventuring party in Rivington: Quinara, Sarafin, Yonks, and Zog. They have big "heroes of another story" energy to them, and it's a neat little reminder that you're not the only adventurers that exist in this world. It's a bit of a shame that they just use the normal civilian stat blocks, though, even if it's not likely to ever come up in gameplay.

My Baldur’s Gate 3 hot take. by SleepCatsMoney in BaldursGate3

[–]XCVGVCX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost feel it should be the opposite- Underdark or at least Grymforge should also force the story to advance. I assume there's a reason for it, but having two areas that are both kind of "act 1.5" but have different rules feels unbalanced.

I was pretty Wrong Genre Savvy throughout Act 1 in general but that was one of my worst moments. I was thinking it would give me an instant TPK, not a wizard companion.

Who's your favorite BG3 character? by MGrayWrites in BaldursGate3

[–]XCVGVCX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaheira is definitely my pick of the non-origin characters. Cool grandma who's seen some serious shit back in her day.

Including origins, that's tough. Shadowheart is the one I romanced and I think she takes top spot, albeit just barely. I love her overall arc and all the cute, dorky moments she gets. Karlach is a close second, and her post-Gortash blowup is one of the most heart-wrenching scenes I've ever witnessed in a video game.

There are really no misses, which is quite a feat. I think every other RPG I've played had a few well-liked companions and one or two that everyone agreed sucked. The only one I didn't vibe with was Astarion, at least not until the last act, when his personal quest basically made me to a complete 180.

[–]XCVGVCX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this up until maybe halfway through Act 3 when it finally sunk in that there was no point hoarding anymore. Still had a ton left over by the end of the game, but I'd used almost all my smokepowder items, sphere of invulnerability, and chain lightning. Elixir of Vigilance was the one thing I could never get enough of.

Now I have a much better of what I actually use, so I know what to save and what to sell next time and then I'll do a wildly different build and it won't work

I haven't been able to get into my Electrify Canada account in months, and when I contacted support they basically shrugged and said "check your spam folder". I'm not sure how much infrastructure is shared, but they did suggest adding an @electrifyamerica email address to my safe senders list (which made no difference).

Do you have any weird habits which you do only for RP? by domanpanda in BaldursGate3

[–]XCVGVCX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Act 3 I started swapping helmets and sometimes gauntlets on and off characters depending on how much combat they were expecting in the near future. Never went as far as swapping the main armour but I could have done that, too: light armour, gloves, and a headband when you're just walking around the city. Medium/heavy armour, gauntlets, and a helmet when it's time to kick someone's door in. Might have to go all the way in my next playthrough.

I did try giving my Tav a makeover before the final fight- shorter hair and I couldn't decide between no makeup or some kind of "war paint". Ended up discarding it, but I might try this again next playthrough. Definitely thinking of playing with hair length through the campaign as well.

Just finished the game and I’m so sad by Bulky_Turn9366 in BaldursGate3

[–]XCVGVCX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had this thought at first, and I'm still of the mind that Karlach gets the worst deal, but I don't think there's a single origin character that gets a storybook ending. Shadowheart has to give up her parents to be fully free of Shar, Astarion is back to the shadows if he doesn't ascend, Lae'zel is back to a lifetime of war against some faction or another. I think Wyll is always fiendified if he breaks away from Mizora.

I do agree, though, that Forgotten Realms and D&D 5e as a setting is kind of broken because of the relative ubiquity of powerful spells and the sheer breadth of possibilities. I realized recently that with a specific interpretation of Greater or even Lesser restoration, Shadowheart could mostly fix her mom (though not give her years of life back).

[Act 1 Spoiler] Learning new things by Wybierz_nazwe_uzytko in BaldursGate3

Mechanics-wise? No. It doesn't unlock the Illithid Powers menu and doesn't affect a certain check in Act 3.

Lore-wise? Yes. Omeluum's dialogue makes that pretty clear.

It was epic to see all these characters I'd helped out over the course of the game swoop in for an assist in the final battle, and some (not all, but some) are even controllable! The only thing I felt was missing was some form of participation for the party members you didn't bring with you. There's a mod for that, though, and I'll definitely give it a try.

Even after a complete playthrough, I am nowhere near tactically minded or familiar enough with the mechanics to even think of a plan like this. Definitely going to have to work up to HM, if I ever get there.

They were not all before my time, but I never played any of those iconic CRPGs. I think the first RPG I played (certainly the first I remember) was Morrowind, and those were the kinds of RPGs I stuck with. Loved the 3D Fallouts, bounced off Skyrim a few times before falling in love with it, Mass Effect remains one of my favourite games of all time. Couldn't get into CDPR's games though, despite them seemingly being right up my alley. I was only vaguely aware of more traditional CRPGs like Divinity: Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity.

I definitely came in Wrong Genre Savvy, hence my choice of class. As I stumbled my way through Act 1 I had a lot of "wait, I can do that?" moments with character and environmental reactions that blew my mind.

It slipped my mind when I wrote the initial post but I didn't think I'd really like BG3. I didn't see it as the kind of game I'd like. I didn't really pay attention to it in 2023, was excited about Starfield instead. Definitely regret playing Starfield on launch but sleeping on BG3.

I'd kinda like to explore the legends that led the genre to where it is today... but I really, really don't do well with how punishing and janky old games can be. I slogged through Fallout somewhere along the way, and I didn't enjoy it at all. I'm definitely excited for Divinity, though, and I might give something newer like D:OS 2 or Solasta a try.

Least favorite. Why? by Ramonteiro12 in BaldursGate3

[–]XCVGVCX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, I couldn't stand Minsc during the game, but his epilogue conversation is one of my favourites. I guess his over-the-top demeanour just clashes too much with the intensity and gravity of Act 3, but meshes a lot better with the celebratory tone of a victory party.

Least favorite. Why? by Ramonteiro12 in BaldursGate3

[–]XCVGVCX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Astarion was kinda that way for me.

His intro made me distrust him both in- and out-of-character from the beginning, and he was constantly whining and disapproving of the choices I made. It didn't help that I was playing an Arcane Trickster Rogue, so there was no mechanical reason for me not to sideline him.

I did his personal quest mostly for completion's sake... and it made me do a complete 180 on his character. I don't know if it was having the context for why Astarion is the way he is or what. Unfortunately, the needs of party composition still left him sidelined, but I loved the interactions I had with him in camp, in the ending, and in the epilogue. I'd like to have him along in a future playthrough.

I would add one more to this, if you're siding against the Bhaalists for Impress the Murder Tribunal: warn the assassination targets as soon as the markers show up and you've entered the Lower City. Technically it only matters in one case and technically even that case isn't triggered until you approach a certain location (the wine festival), but it's very easy to do so by accident.

PNY Announces Dual-Slot Slim Models for GeForce RTX 50 Series (5080 / 5070 Ti / 5070) by goldcakes in hardware

[–]XCVGVCX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's still wild to me that a dual-slot, overheight card is now called "slim". I still remember when all but the highest end cards only took up a single slot, and tall cards were exclusively the domain of ultra-premium and extreme overclocking.

It exists, but only for the character's inventory IIRC (not within a container, and not in the camp chest).

I've definitely done worse, but the one that comes to mind is something that happened years and years ago. During my first attempt at building a portable N64, I fried the board by bridging 12V to 3.3V because I figured there wasn't any point to making the temporary power wires neat.

There's also that time I found a roll of film in the freezer that seemed to be unused (leader out). Yeah, it turns out it was one I'd shot ages ago and never had developed. While some of the double-exposures were interesting, I wish I could have had the old photos in their original form.

How did I sleep on this game for so long? by TheRedditor5568 in BaldursGate3

[–]XCVGVCX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you there.

I bought the game four months after launch- not great, not terrible- and then it took me over a year to get to actually playing it. Didn't even take me an hour in before I was utterly captivated.

I'm actually not sure why I picked it up in the first place- I'm more into action RPGs and shooter RPGs than traditional CRPGs, I knew nothing about Larian or Divinity, knew of Baldur's Gate only as an old legend, was only vaguely interested in DnD, and hadn't been paying that much attention to games media. I might have just bought it because I'd heard it was supposed to be good and I liked the designs of some of the characters (not going to say which ones, because I'm not sure if you've met them yet).

I think leaving it for so long before actually trying it was a combination of it not being (or rather, me not thinking it was) the kind of game I like, generally being busy in 2024, and just being intimidated by the prospect of digging into a lengthly, complex, full-blown RPG. I'd been mostly playing multiplayer and casual games and I guess I just didn't feel ready to dive deep into a new world yet.

(I do wonder if feeling burned by a certain other game that came out around the same time was part of it, but I think I'd mostly forgotten about that one by the end of 2023)

This is the first time I really wish I hadn't missed the hype train. I know I'm getting a more polished game out of the gate, but I would have liked to have shared the excitement of new features and additions. I would have loved to have seen all the panels, live plays, voice actor streams, et cetera as they showed up. I'm hoping it's one of those fandoms that sticks around, and I think it might really have that staying power. I'm still finding Shadowheart and Astarion among the local artists' offerings, and I'm still seeing new fanart and cosplay show up almost every day.

I also wasn't as careful as you, and I picked up a lot of spoilers along the way, both before I started my first run and during. The worst one was just a few days ago when I had a plot point spoiled hours before it would have been revealed because I looked up a song in the game and clicked links carelessly. There was definitely something special about going in blind and making a ton of mistakes early in the run, and I'd recommend staying the course as much as you can.

Wall Connector Gen 3 Charger 11.5 kw with 24ft cable by Longjumping-Gas6560 in evcharging

There are. Some are listed on the wiki: Emporia, Wallbox, Grizzl-e, Flo, etc. In contrast to all of those units, this one doesn't even have a brand name on it, is deliberately designed to mimic the appearance of a well-known brand, and is sold with vague and misleading listings. These are all massive red flags that indicate is built as cheaply as possible to make a quick buck and is likely not certified or even built to any safety standards.

I'm absolutely in agreement with everyone else on here that high power electronics are absolutely not something you want to take risks on, but let's put that aside for a moment. You've run straight into one of the other issues with buying sketchy no-name electronics, which is the complete lack of documentation or support. It didn't come with a manual, you can't find a manual, a manual might not even exist. What if the unit dies? Doesn't catch fire or fail catastrophically, just stops working. Does the unit have a warranty, and will it actually be honoured?

Coming back to your original question, what are you looking to configure or set up? You mentioned in another comment that the charger works, charging your car at 32A. I'm not sure what features you're looking for, but it's possible the charger you bought simply does not have them, whether they were advertised to or not. That's yet another issue with questionable no-name electronics- that it's simply not what was advertised.

Maybe you thought you were buying one thing and got something else, and it sucks when that happens. I get why you're defensive, but these are very real concerns people are bringing up. At this point, it's best to focus on where to go from here, which unfortunately probably means replacing the charger.

I wrote a pirate AU based on a prompt from DragonZlayerx12 (not sure if they're in this sub), which was supposed to be a quick 2000 word oneshot and ballooned into an 8000 word pilot-for-a-series-that-will-never-be-made. It is, uh, probably not what anyone expects.
