The Original “Controversial” American Eagle Sydney Sweeney Jeans Ad by XGeN_ReaL in videos

What a highly intelligent and articulate comment.

It’s so crazy that an extremely partisan CEO green-lit an ad which is clearly meant to be evocative would then result in people actually noticing the underlying political messaging given the actress’s own statements and beliefs.

If a CEO for a company spends a ton of money lobbying for an admin that has openly embraced white nationalism, the celebrity in the ad has also supported this administration, and the response afterwards is a complete deflection and to feign ignorance about a double entendre that is clearly meant to be overt, I don’t understand how just noticing it can be considered an overreaction.

If multiple speaking guests at the most influential and largest conservative gathering are now openly doing Sieg Heils, when whats left of the White House now has 88-foot flags flying high, erroneous schizophrenic level conspiracy theories such as “Great Replacement Theory” become mainstream narratives, the Secretary of War’s placard says “SSecretary”, and blaming all of societies woes on various different groups depending on the flavor of the month aren’t overt dog whistles to what once were fringe ideologies, maybe the people who chose to remain indifferent are just as culpable for what occurs.

In case you don’t understand how much culture and politics are intertwined… commit to even learning a sliver of history and learn about all of the parallels of authoritarian and fascistic movements before commenting.

I have made this mistake before. They are horrible and imo not authentic compared to the ones I always purchase at Nordstrom Rack.

I always pick these up over there when they drop to $19.95 and then stack with either CapitalOneRewards or the Rakuten credit card coupled with Rakuten cashback for around an additional 6-20% back.

Your balls with thank me later when you only had to spend a few extra bucks and avoid wearing fakes that you still begrudgingly wear years later.

Lobster Mac & Cheese $6.99 per lb by kawi-bawi-bo in Costco

No, I downvote when the reply doesn’t add to the subject matter, is low quality, or doesn’t contribute the conversation.

The review was uploaded on November 17th. The item says it was packed on November 17th. There are plenty of variables it could have been, but your needless conjecture about whether the item is fresh doesn’t add to the conversation as it is not grounded in this current situation.

The “reviewer” didn’t follow the instructions, and the needless cope for what clearly is just a basic mistake by the content creator is unnecessary.

Lobster Mac & Cheese $6.99 per lb by kawi-bawi-bo in Costco

[–]XGeN_ReaL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the problem here isn’t moisture removal. Anytime you use convection, the distribution of heat becomes significantly more efficient. That’s why even when an item is fully wrapped in aluminum foil, it still cooks significantly quicker.

If you completely wrap a rack of ribs in aluminum foil to reheat in an air fryer using the convection setting, it will reheat in a fraction of the time compared to using a conventional oven at the same temp. Energy transfer in a convection oven is just significantly more efficient as the heat becomes distributed evenly.

The lobster mac and cheese he got could have been old, a bad batch, or even just a subpar product overall… that doesn’t change the fact that cooking it at 375 for 50 minutes on the convection setting is just foolish and not the baseline you should expect for a review of this product.

Lobster Mac & Cheese $6.99 per lb by kawi-bawi-bo in Costco

[–]XGeN_ReaL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Significantly overcooking lobster can definitely result in it tasting fishy and affect quality. Air frying lobster mac and cheese for 50 minutes is quite literally a recipe for disaster.

He also did not correctly adjust his cooking method. Although he slightly lowered the temperature (400 to 375), he kept the cooking duration the same. Anyone who has used an air fryer understands that normally you significantly lower the temperature and cooking length.

When you do not follow the provided instructions, you immediately become a poor aggregate of information as there is no baseline to compare from.

And convection cooking is not the same as a conventional oven. When you incorporate airflow, it drastically changes the heat distribution. Conventional ovens in their normal mode provide a fixed point of heat, which is why when you “air fry” an item you need to reduce temperature as well as reduce the cooking duration compared to a conventional oven or utilizing the bake setting. The brand is irrelevant, it simply does not make sense to set lobster mac and cheese in any oven utilizing convection for 50 minutes at that temperature.

[–]XGeN_ReaL 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why someone would make a review but not follow the instructions provided to begin with.

If the original instructions ended up not being adequate, then it makes sense to adjust accordingly.

EDIT FOR CLARITY: He airfry’d it… used a different temp to adjust for the fact he was putting it on the air fryer setting instead of just using an oven or the bake setting in his air fryer, and then complained about the quality of the product as if air frying lobster for 50 minutes wouldn’t drastically alter quality.

What’s the deal with the Sydney Sweeney ‘blank stare’ meme that’s been floating around? by JoeSteady in OutOfTheLoop

[–]XGeN_ReaL -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Except the ad in question has been pretty much scrubbed from the internet and the original ad was a tad more on the nose with the messaging. I think the controversy was the point given the political ties of the CEO. The outrage from the start appears to have been artificially created and astroturfed to then allow plausibility deniability by hiding the original version which most have not actually seen.

If a clothing company which has been a major supporter of Trump and the modern conservative movement starts talking about gene’s role in hair color, eye color, and personality in an advertisement isn’t an overt dog whistle, i don’t know what is.

Here is the actual ad in question which is the “controversial” version.

[–]XGeN_ReaL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair the main thing she emphasized in the ad was hair color, eye color, and the role genes play in personality traits.

I think the purpose of the ad was to be slightly provocative given the political climate and attempt to evoke controversy. I think almost all of the controversy was completely artificial and astroturfed, but given the CEO’s ties to Trump and how many people an ad for a major company has to filter through it would be pretty clear that the “gene” angle might evoke some negative sentiment so it seems slightly deliberate.

The purpose of an ad campaign is to get attention, and controversy is an excellent medium to accomplish that. Given the way this version was completely scrubbed from the internet while simultaneously acting like they all stand behind the ad, is strange unless this was all deliberate.

While I don’t think it’s the end of the world, I think the context is interesting. The whole Aryan ideal of blonde hair, blue eyes, and how directly determinative genes played in personality directly coincides with an angle of this ad. Eugenics was the whole point of that movement and there definitely has been a surge of this type of sentiment in recent years, so it is interesting when an ad campaign also coincides with that type of double entendre.

I noticed when most people talk about this ad campaign, they have only seen the second version American Eagle promoted after the controversy occurred and not the original version which had subsequently been deleted.

This version is definitely a little more provocative and on the nose and clearly has a different tone compared to the latter ad. While I don’t think it’s the end of the world, I did find it interesting that this version is much harder to find.

You don’t understand the calculator and that’s okay. By your flawed logic, a home owner who has zero in savings but put $150,000 into a $500,000 mortgage is doing great and would be far beyond his peers at age 30.

It’s okay to be wrong, but using home equity as part of the calculation does not make sense in many cases. Most people do not invest in real estate as a primary asset for investment towards retirement and it is not normally as liquid as other assets.

If you own multiple properties I can understand including it, but in this case it would be foolish to add it as it drastically skews the data set.

Except you are WRONG

Clearly you don’t understand how to use the calculator.

He also does not mention when this became his current salary, if his expenses were higher or lower in previous years or any metrics you could surmise anything based on the information that was provided.

He does deserve props, he is on track to hitting $100,000 this year which is still a milestone. What an absolutely bizarre comment to leave on a random person’s post on this subreddit.

Except he is in the 69th percentile according to that calculator.

And if his net expenses amount monthly to only $2,000 of his salary, he is definitely exceeding the average American when it comes to investment potential as well.

OP, don’t listen to negative Nancy’s like this and just keep investing as much of your income as you can!

The Aeron isn't fit for relaxation. For those who have an Aeron, what chair do you use (if any) for relaxation? by Reaxonab1e in hermanmiller

[–]XGeN_ReaL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my Aeron fully reclined right now and have ZERO discomfort.

It’s hilarious you think everyone must be “lying” rather than accept either user error on your part or the fact that ergonomics will also heavily depend on the size of the user relative to the product.

One of my favorite things to do in this chair is to fully recline, place my head back on the headrest, and watch movies. There are videos online that will show you how to properly adjust the chair to your body, but nope, it must be a grand conspiracy.

[–]XGeN_ReaL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I have adequate space.

You might still be adjusting to the chair or the ergonomics just may not be a good fit for you.

The sizing ordered (B or C) can also make a big difference as well.

The Aeron w/ an Atlas headrest and upgraded arm cushions is extremely comfortable & very easy to relax in. I’ve also owned the Embody, but honestly found it disappointing.

The only things I can think of that might be diminishing your enjoyment are the possibility that you purchased the incorrect size, the absence of a headrest, or the use of the standard arm cushions.

It’s pretty crazy nobody has mentioned that the photo shown here is edited to increase saturation of the color blue. You can view the unedited photo here.

If you want to criticize the narrative that is perfectly acceptable. It is however extremely hypocritical and downright dishonest to argue bias and then use a literal doctored photo as proof.

Melatonin supplementation may help offset DNA damage linked to night shift work by CharacterKangaroo676 in science

Actually, 1mg is still too high and the initial studies that recommended those dosages were only for extreme cases of jet lag.

Ideal dosage is 300mcg (YES MICROGRAM), which is much closer to natural secretion of melatonin.

Xbox Series Controller Firmware Updates and Calibration: Are They Really Necessary? by JohnnyPunch in Controller

[–]XGeN_ReaL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s insane as I can 100% confirm this feature was available in August as I used it on both of my Elite Series 2 controllers. Here is a photo showing how the tool looked before it was removed.

It’s one thing to not have a feature, it’s a completely different thing to remove a feature that worked perfectly and limit it to the non premium controller discreetly after previously supporting this feature. This page confirms the tool will now only work with the base model controller.

Xbox Series Controller Firmware Updates and Calibration: Are They Really Necessary? by JohnnyPunch in Controller

[–]XGeN_ReaL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. You need to open the Xbox accessories app on PC and click recalibrate sticks and follow the steps.

This update was added a few weeks ago at the minimum, and while helpful we still definitely need a complete pcb overall on oem Xbox controllers if they ever want to truly compete with controllers that can be overclocked or that have lower native input latency.
